Listening to "Shuffle" - it's not horrible, though the one thing that stands out that desperately needs fixing is the super-fast fill things in the drum machine part... it doesn't sound like anything that a real drummer could / would play. Over and above that, the drum "sounds" being played by the MIDI are fairly obnoxious, and I'm generally okay with MIDI drums.

You've got a good singing voice, the guitar sounds like it's together. But I think a lot of people are going to be really turned off by the MIDI sounds... are you using a cheesy soundcard to generate them? The drum and the keyboard sounds on "Sun Make Noise" are the big problem there, I actually liked the song itself and your singing.

Hope that helps. I fear that your next step is going to involve spending some money to get better sounds, although I'm sure there's some free stuff floating around that would be a step up from what you're working with right now...

Well.....I think King Arthur is being a little too nice. Your singing on Shuffle is pretty bad. You are frequently out of tune and it is especially noticable with the guitar occupying the same melodic range of the vocal. I actually think Earlier Shuffle is better for this reason.

I don't agree that MIDI drums have to sound like something a real drummer would play, by the way. But if you're going to go that route, you might want to make them sound even *more* electronic and unplayable.

Sun Makes Noise is a nice little song. I like the keyboard sound and the handclaps. The lyrics are average.

I personally did not like Detroit and frankly, it doesn't even seem like a complete song at this point. However, I can see a lot of potential for the song in a longer, full-band version.

Honestly, these songs weren't as bad as I anticipated. I'm not crazy about your voice, but I think the quality of the recordings may have something to do with that. I think your song ideas are pretty decent. I would not recommend you quit writing songs just yet.
