Woo Hoo! I THOUGHT you might be as crazy as I am! YOU even made a special livejournal name for it. I wish I would have thought of that.

I recommend this much: Keep a searchable database of some sort. This is going to get difficult as time goes by. It will be like "Did I list this song yet? Oh, yeah... CRAP! There it is, back in May of 2011."

I hope we are both able to complete this. That would be rad.

ROCK!

Also, I think that neither of us should be able to list a song that the other one has already listed, so we end up with a list of 20K awesome songs.

The ultimate musical endurance test.

OOH, OUCH!

That might be just a bit TOO brutal. I'm going to have to disagree with you on that one. What happens if you list a song, and I check it out, and LOVE it?

Since I am trying to essentially make this an accurate list of my 10,000 favorite songs, it would be inaccurate if I had to eliminate choices based on you beating me to them. We would be fighting to get our favorite sonofsupercar choices in, for instance.

It's a clever idea, mind you. I just think that 10,000 songs (with no repeats) is a tough enough goal as it is without further stipulations. :)

It is tempting, I admit to this. The idea of having exactly 20,000 non-repeated songs is a nice thought, but I actually like the idea of having the little bit of overlap that will probably exist. I really don't think we'll have a whole lot of overlap on our lists anyway, but since I want to make this my true 10,000 favorites... I must decline this additional challenge, myself.

You're welcome to not use any songs that I used. :)

ROCK!

Welcome HInc to the challenge.

Glenn, it's okay to decline the challenge. You're right, what if today you heard "Sealings" and dug it, you should be able to list it.

Since you have a day on me, does that mean I should post a second song for today?

You're welcome to, if you like, but I personally like the idea of one song per day. Your call, though.

Look at it this way: I have a one day head start, and if I slip up and miss a day? Y'all will be caught up! I have to stay on my toes!

And, YES! Welcome to the madness, Heuristics!

Maybe we'll eventually have 10 of us doing this. THEN we could potentially have a collective total of 100,000 songs listed! (Even if some of them are repeats, that is pretty freaking exceptional)

This is, assuming that we all finish, and SURVIVE to finish, mind you. I HOPE I live to see 59, but who knows!

ROCK!

I can see it now, me at age 56. My kids, all grown up, asking me "Are you still doing that 10k thing with Bill & Glenn".

Heh! It's a great mental image.

You realise, if we pull this off, it makes for a fantastic story. A co-worker pointed out that this is basically a book waiting to happen, composed of the lists and the story of how they came about.

In other words: The 10,000 song retirement plan? *shrugs* I don't know. I just know that I've wanted to make a list of my 10,000 favorite songs, and now I'm doing it. SLOWLY but surely.

ROCK!

I'm not going to go hog wild with the invitations to do this, but I DID send a message to Jeff and Terrence from Treble just now. For those who don't know, I did two reviews for Treble before I decided that my writing skill was not up to par with the rest of the staff.

We'll see if they go for it too.

ROCK!

If you ask me, you are all just a pack of freaking weirdos.

Have you thought about what will happen when you finally get to 9,999 and realise theye are 2 more songs you want to add?

Or you are sitting in your retirement villa, proudly showing off your list of 10,000 - then Echo Beach by Martha and the Muffins comes on the radio, and you go D'OH!!!!

Just in case......

I strongly doubt there are 10,000 awesome songs out there. 10,000 good ones yes ... I'm not hanging around 27 years to be proved wrong!

This may be interesting. Martha of Martha and the Muffins is now a children's songwriter and performed for my son's kindergarten class.
Punk rock is for children. Grab a six-pack at Half-a-Dozen Records.

Wow! I'm impressed.
Does that mean that Martha & the Muffins were....Canadian!!!! There was actually once a good Canadian band!!!! (even though they were only one hit wonders)
Why oh why did they only have one hit - yet Bryan Adams and Celine Dion and The Tea Party and The Crash Test Dummies etc... go on to torment us for years?

I know we've gone down this road before, but when does having a hit have anything to do with being good? If they coincide, then that's cool, but most of the good artists never had ANY hits. Should we resurrect the one hit wonders that are amazing long-term artists list?

Virtually never when we're talking about Canadians.

Not sure if this is the appropriate thread:

Listened to the new Scissor Sisters 'Ta-Dah' - two-cd version yesterday - every track is excellent. My favorites include the wicked 'Kiss Off', 'Ooh', awesome 'Transistor', 'She's My Man', and the deliciously insane 'Making Ladies'.

Also, really digging Municipale Balcanica, Shivkumar Sharma but how to describe to ya'll?

Finally got Pet Shop Boys 'Closer To Heaven' musical, demo and live. George Michael should explore gospel-influenced show-tunes.
