Expected something else (:) ) but this is fascinating. I watched for a few minutes then got my boss over and we watched it in silence for another minute before I decided if I'm going to get any work done then I'll have to close the window.

Hello,

I don't have a question but rather wanted to pass on exciting news to everyone in CH101 that relates to what we've been studying recently.

Northern Lights have been observable in Boston this week, with possible further activity tonight and tomorrow. Usually we're too far south to witness this activity, but due to some rather large coronal mass ejections (CME's) from the sun causing some rather intense geomagnetic storms the "oval" of observable auroras has been pushed further south (and north in the southern hemisphere) than normal. Due to the magnitude of these storms, auroras can be seen in less-than-ideal conditions. I was at a park in Brookline last night and witnessed some incredible green/blue overhead auroras from 12-1am.

There are many sites that explain what causes auroras, but one of the most clear and comprehensive is found here:

Essentially, the lights we see are the result of charged particles ejected from the sun, which hit the earth's atmosphere near the earth's magnetic poles. The interaction with gases in our atmosphere (hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen) result in colorful light displays in the sky.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA, http://www.noaa.gov) uses NASA's Polar Orbiting Environment Satellites (POES) and Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) to measure things like electron/photon/x-ray flux, changes in onboard magnetometers, etc. They also use the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO, http://sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov/) to observe solar activity, such as the CME's already mentioned as well as Solar Flares. The information gathered from these sources is what is displayed on the Today's Space Weather page. Yet another useful page is the Auroral Activity extrapolated from POES data page: http://sec.noaa.gov/pmap/

well goldwave isn't working for me anymore... and neither is anyother software i have... sept for ms recorder... and it's a piece of crapolla

i did record one of my new songs on it 'Poisoned Waters'
and it's on my soundclick page link
which is in my signature if you care to hear
completely live song... nothin' done to it... no noise reduction or anything...

ehhh... also had to record really far away from the mic cause of how loud i had to sing it... but oh well... hope you enjoy if you catch it... and dark all day will probably be the last fight i'm in... until i can get my stuff together../fixed...

My opinion: GROSS! but yet, oddly exciting

and as for the remote hunting...

it would be hard to keep track of who shot what once the site got popular...also...reloads...junk like that. Only one person at a time...whats to keep someone from hogging the gun...then there would be time limits... Just seems like it'd be more trouble that it's worth.
