Have you already heard about popular opinion on the practice of "friend flooding"? I think I am going to type out some thoughts on the issue, and when I do, I will keep you posted. You might find it to be of interest.
ROCK!

Is it still friend-flooding if I tell my friends to come and vote for somebody else?GlennCase wrote: Have you already heard about popular opinion on the practice of "friend flooding"? EDIT #2: I CREATED A WHOLE THREAD ON THE TOPIC OF FRIEND FLOODING. FEEL FREE TO <a href="http://songfight.net/forums/viewtopic.p ... ARTICIPATE IN IT.
I guess it depends on who you ask, but in many cases friends won't listen to everyone's tracks and vote for you. They will just vote for you because they think they are helping you out.
There really is no right or wrong answer on the subject, as it is a matter of opinion. Personally? If I had my first fight to do over again? I would not have told my friends about Songfight until AFTER the votes had been tallied.
You know, it would have been like: "Hey, I just found this cool website, and I participated. I lost my first fight, but I like the concept!
EDIT #1: I COMBINED TWO MESSAGES INTO THIS ONE
Found the exact message I passed on to my sockhead friends. I ended up winning the "Mumbo Jumbo" fight with 27 votes, and I wouldn't be surprised to learn that the majority of those votes came from people who did not listen to anyone else's entry.
It's message number 23339 in the Sockheads archive
Here's precisely what I said to them:
"Hello sockaroos,
I will have a rap on SONGFIGHT!
http://www.songfight.org
It will be under the artist name "The Def Author", and
it should be online sometime today (Monday, July 21st,
2003)
If you haven't heard of songfight, the concept is
easy.
1. The creators of the site throw out a random song
title.
2. The contestants scramble to make a song using that
title
3. A deadline is set for song submission, normally
about a week or so between songs.
Anyway, this is my debut. This week's songfight title
is "Mumbo Jumbo". I think I did pretty good, WARNING:
there is a naughty word in the song, REALLY there is!
Feel free to vote for me if you like my song better
than the rest of the competition's songs this week.
ROCK!
Glenn (DR FUNK)"
That's just it. That is precisely what I did back in 2003. I told people to listen to everyone's songs before voting, and to pick the best one, but I won my first fight by a lot of votes. I don't think it was necessarily the best track, either.jeff robertson wrote:Is it still friend-flooding if I tell my friends to come and vote for somebody else?GlennCase wrote: Have you already heard about popular opinion on the practice of "friend flooding"? Thought I'd mention that the auto-respond did arrive, but almost three hours later. Maybe it's the same one that visits everyone elses house, and got held up for a while visiting someone on its way over. If that's the case, I'd better go let it free so it can continue on its merry way. Thanks for coming, see ya next week!
