Yeah, well I was merely pointing that out to ensure to the Songfight world that I'm not watching while really getting into it in the way they want me to get into it. Mostly I watch because it's something my wife and I can jeer at while the TV's on.

Understood. I was just being an assle for some reason. Anyway, I've always lamented how reading is far less social than TV or movies. And it's not like there's that much good on TV these days... I can tolerate crap TV, I just don't actively watch it. This makes me the black sheep in my family.
...Um, and they watch it while eating awful fast-food. Yeah. Back on topic...

Yeah, we tried for years to give up TV, trying cold turkey, moving the TV, everything. It was like a mission for us for a few years. We just couldn't shake it. Finally, though, we prevailed, and not by even trying anything. The solution: there stopped being anything on TV we felt like watching. So TV itself prompted our ability to not watch. The Swan, believe it or not, is the only show we watch. And the Sopranos, when it comes back on.

Dragging the two themes of this thread together...Jim of Seattle wrote:there stopped being anything on TV we felt like watching.
I don't watch much TV as its being broadcast - I record it on videotape or DivX, and watch it when
(a) I can't sleep, or
(b) My brain is to tierd to do anything intelligent, or
(c) I need something to look at while working out
I'm currently ploughing through season 3 of Voyager, while doing weights and cardio. It's called.....The Star Trek Diet.

RE: C-Hack's diet story...
However, you can go on a juice fast for a week to, literally, clean all of the shit out of your intestines. And you will experience a more energized feeling a couple days in because your body doesn't have to use as much energy for digestion. It requires an enema at the beginning, however, which is one of the reasons I've never done it.

See, I don't think any shit actually stays in your intestines. I think there might be lots of good reasons to fast (spiritual, psychological, etc.), but nutrition isn't one of them.Future Boy wrote:RE: C-Hack's diet story...

Wait, I thought the purpose of the enema was to clean all the shit out your intestines... so what's the purpose of the juice diet/fast thereafter?

The colon yes, the intestines no. The intesines are far too long and winding to be cleaned out by enema. Plus, they're not just a large storage space for waste - digestion does go on in them.Generic wrote:Wait, I thought the purpose of the enema was to clean all the shit out your intestines

I've heard that the idea of "cleansing your system" by eating or drinking something is pure BS, that our bodies are perfectly capable of cleaning out stuff we don't need.

Yep, that was surreal all right, gives your perceptions a tweak.
Of course, my personal favorite is the free tiolet paper with banner ads... Well-- That and the "HumJerk"--the tasty new treat and cultural statement all rolled into one. Human flesh, grown in a biodegradable mesh substrate in a bath of growth-catalyzing enzymes way to take processed foods to entirely new levels. Not just a tasteful advertising piece, but a whole new way of saying "You are what you eat..."

I rented this the other night and really enjoyed it. The dude did a great job narrating it.
However, I hardly ever eat McD's, and so I'll probably not stop. The human body is pretty good at getting rid crap if you don't pound it in ya, so I figure once in awhile isn't going to kill me. I've done much worse to my body/temple....
The obesity in America bit was pretty good though, and the part about the cafeterias in the schools was just downright frightening.
