Actor/Musician

Post by Niveous »

This week I've found myself talking a lot about the connection between acting and music and how there always those who try to do both. I want to compile a list of actor/musicians (no matter how bad). Here's what I quickly thought of off the top of my head:

David Bowie
Movies: Labyrinth, Last Temptation of Christ
Music: Countless hits.

Keanu Reeves
Movies: Matrix trilogy, Speed
Music: Basssit of Dogstar

Jared Leto
Movies: Panic Room, Alexander
Music: lead singer- 30 Seconds To Mars

Jason Schwartzman
Movies: Rushmore, I <3 Huckabees
Music: drummer- Phantom Planet

Paris Hilton
Movies: House of Wax, Zoolander
Music: Pop trash like "Stars Are Blind"

David Hasselhoff
TV: Knight Rider, Baywatch
Music: He's God in Germany

Kevin Bacon
Movies: Stir of Echoes, Tremors
Music: One half of the Bacon Brothers

Juliette Lewis
Movies: Natural Born Killers, Kalifornia
Music: lead singer of The Licks

Brittney Murphy
Movies: Clueless, 8 Mile
Music: "Faster Kill Pussycat" with Paul Oakenfeld

Taryn Manning
Movies: Crazy/Beautiful, 8 Mile
Music: half of Boomkat

Scarlett Johansen
Movies: Lost in Translation, The Perfect Score
Music: An album of Tom Waits covers

Prince
Movies: Purple Rain
Music: Does it need saying

Mick Jagger
Movies: Freejack, Ned Kelly
Music: See Prince

Beyonce
Movies: The Pink Panther, Goldmember
Music: Destiny's Child

Jada Pinkett Smith
Movies: Scream 2, The Matrix Reloaded
Music: Lead singer of metal band Wicked Wisdom

Wil Smith
Movies: Bad Boys, Men In Black
Music: He was the Fresh Prince

Michael Pitt
Movies: The Dreamers, Murder by Numbers
Music: Frontman of the band Pagoda

Russell Crowe
Movies: A Beautiful mind, Gladiator
Music: Thirty Odd Foot of Grunt

Meatloaf
Movies: Rocky Horror, Fight Club
Music: "...but I won't do that. No! I won't do that!"

Can you think of others, I know I have left off a bunch.

Nick Cave wrote The Proposition (not acting, I know) and acted in Johnny Suede/Ghosts of the Civil Dead. And Joe Strummer was in Mystery Train and one of my favorites: Straight to Hell (named for the Clash song). Also, Jello Biafra's been in some stuff (along with a bunch of other cool people in Tapeheads).

Speaking of Mystery Train, fucking Screamin' Jay Hawkins is in that. Jarmusch and Alex Cox both love using musicians. Jarmusch used John Lurie (from the Lounge Lizards/himself) in Down by Law and Stranger Than Paradise, for example. Alex Cox used like everybody in Straight to Hell: Courtney Love, Joe Strummer, the Pogues, and Elvis Costello (and actually used Jarmusch, interestingly enough). David Lynch has also used Marilyn Manson/Twiggy and John Lurie as well.

Oh, Straight To Hell. I remember that movie. I'd like to see that again.

Also, I forgot Henry Rollins. He's done a few movies.

Aimee Mann has a line in "Big Lebowski" - she's the girl without a toe. How about Frankie and Annette?

The the 3rd Harry Potter movie had the bloke from the Stone Roses in it. And a bloke from Radiohead and Jarvis Cocker as part of the band
