Let's DO this! Hall and OATES! (Coverfight)

Post by GlennCase »

Erin had an idea, and I liked the idea, so I stole it. Thankfully, she also <a href="http://www.songfight.net/forums/viewtop ... pproves</a>

I know the <a href="http://www.songfight.net/forums/viewtop ... 938">Yacht Rock coverfight</a> is already going on, so that's why the deadline is set so far back.

HALL AND OATES COVERFIGHT
Preferred Deadline: December 31st, 2006

First person to call a song, gets it.
Covers will be added as they are completed.
Daryl Hall or John Oates solo entries are acceptable.
Songs created after the deadline will be accepted, but we reserve the right to mock you for being late.

I'd personally like to see most of their entire catalog covered, but that's probably a bit too ambitious. Of course, that is precisely the kind of ridiculous behaviour that I am known for.

I will edit this first post with links to the songs. Feel free to point out mistakes in the discography, as I probably have made a few. This discography is not tiny.

As this is a lot of ground to cover, I am going to start things off with a Hall and Oates cover that I already did once upon a time.

From their "Beauty on a Back Street" album, here's <a href="http://www.glenncase.com/music/covers/T ... .mp3">"The Girl Who Used to Be"</a>

ROCK!

Are you counting tracks that are themselves covers of other artists? Assuming "You've Lost that Lovin' Feeling" among others are probably covers.

I was treating that subject on a song by song basis. While "You've Lost that Lovin' Feeling" is a Righteous Brothers cover, Hall and Oates charted fairly well with the song. Is one of the only covers (that I am aware of) that I intentionally left on the list. I felt that their interpretation was unique enough in spots to go ahead and just leave it as an open possibility.

ROCK!

That's because you have excellent taste. Definitely my favorite Daryl solo album, and it's better than 90% of the albums they've ever done as a duo. (Private Eyes is actually probably my favorite album of all of these)

ROCK!

Glenn...you are awesome to get this ball rolling. Please look forward to a very special cover of "Maneater".
I was a little bitter and upset about this song being rejected from the "yacht rock" fight, so I was just going to cover it anyway and post it on somesongs. Thanks for making my Hall and Oates cover fight a reality.

I used to have bad dreams with "Out of Touch" as the soundtrack. Time for some payback. I call that song.

Thanks.

May I have "Rich Girl"?

Two things I found amazing in my youtube perusal of their career:
1. they had SO MANY freakin hits!
2. Daryl Hall's rapid style changes - from folkie to yacht rocker to new wave to punker to rockabilly and all points in-between

Oh and I want to say, Glenn, you did an amazing job with setting up this fight from the very start. If I'd done as much advance preparation, I imagine I'd have made a lot fewer people angry with me.

I love Hall & Oats.

I'm all over Adult Education.

I totally caught Hall's guitar pick after that song at a show in '98.

Good times.

When I was young, I honestly thought that song was about basketball. I was only 7 though.

Hey, is this thing still on? I think that we need to rally some more" H and O" fans. After the Yacht Rock fight, there must still be some more excitement regarding this duo! I'm still in...if it's going on that is....C'mon folks, I know you're out there!
