So, if you're planning on seeing this this weekend, maybe you'd be interesting in listening to my podcast coverage of an early screening this Thursday! My son's public school is starting a film program and as a fund-raiser we got the flick a day early. Of course I know nothing about the series, so now I have three days to catch up. But I will be interviewing some celebs and fans and hope to have the podcast available that night. Maybe the next day some time. The podcast is the initiation of our new radio/podcasting program at the school.

It was really good. I'm not a Harry Potter fan, and I don't follow the books or the movies (I saw HP 3, which was quite good), but I seriously enjoyed this movie. Whereas my overall impression of the first three movies (and books, for that matter) was good kid's fair that has some universal appeal, this movie's target demographic is obviously not anyone under 13. For instance, the movie has more awkward sexual tension than anything else I've seen this year (not counting 40 Year Old Virgin). If you thought Alfonso Cuaron sexed up the last Harry Potter (which, in retrospect, he didn't really. There was still a lot of talk about it), you're in for a surprise.

I know they where pressed for time in the editing room (2 and a half hours!), but my suspicion is that some of the mysteries' explanations got cut down. There are a few puzzles where, when they drop the answer, I feel a bit forty-two-ed ("How did it happen?" "It was love!" "Yeah, great answer").

But, this one seems to be the funniest, the scariest, and the most gorgeous (Lord-Of-The-Rings-quality dragons) of the HP movies. I suppose that makes it the best. Also, Ralph Fiennes is sweet as always (although I don't know where they put his nose. That's an impressive feat of special-fx-ery right there).

Yeah, what Puce said. They just didn't bother to explain certain GAPING holes in the story line. Where you'd expect some bright teenagers sitting around actually looking like they're solving stuff (they are special ed, after all), someone walks by and drops a book with the appropriate page marked. I wish my boarding school was like that!

But the babes are cute (is it legal to say this?), the effects are top notch, and the evil is pretty evil. If they did show you what you know happens this would certainly have a scarey R rating. This is not a young kid's movie.

My podcast will be a pretty provincial thing, sound bites from school officials and BOE and some celebrity, as we had a screening to raise money for a new film program at my son's school. Nothing much about the film.

As Bjam reported we went at midnight last night to King of Prussia UA/Regal location. They had 8 screens showing at midnight plus another two corporate screens (press and private function) there were over 2,500 people there last night. OMG. Demographic was heavily dominated by late teen early twenties and very biased to young women. Indeed there were several organized groups from local colleges (Bryn Mawr, LeHigh etc)

Movie is terrific I want to go back and see it when my body is not fighting to try and go to sleep though

. What Puce wrote is a damned good overview and I am sure this thing will blow the doors of the box office this weekend. What will be interesting will be if it keeps legs through to the next big releases in Mid December.

SPOILERS SPOILERS BLAHBLAH SPOILERS I liked it, but from the way that the movie was shot and paced, it seems like it takes place over the course of a month, not an entire school year. Which makes for a more concise and focused plotline, which makes for a more enjoyable movie overall, for me. But then at the end of the movie they all start going home, and I'm all "That was supposed to take place over a school year? That should have taken place in like 3 weeks."

Was the movie all sexed up? I don't know, I saw the movie with a large group that included a 9-year-old girl, and she thought the movie was great. Whatever tensions are clearly present on the screen, they are painted with a wide enough brush that people can interpret it in any number of ways. I mean, there's not even any kissing on the lips. I think Ron gets kissed twice on the cheek by some magic french whores, but that's it.

saw it friday night, liked it a lot.
yeah, there is a lot of "fast" in this movie probably due to the fact that there were almost no actual classes in it.

Saw it last night. Huge lineups, but we got in front cause we thought it started at 3..but it started at 4...

Pretty good. can't people shut the fuck up in the theatre???? I agree about the pace... I too felt like it was more concise, and ended way too early. Herminone (wonder how close I got on the sp) clearly wants me. My son absolutely loved it, he's 13. Only he had to keep telling me what was going on "cause he read the book". At one point , when they were wondering who put harry's name in , I leaned over and told him "I know who put his name in the goblet". My son said "who?" in this incredilous way. I said "j.k. rowlands. quit talking during the movie. "

There was a great line at the end...but damn if I can remember it now..but I remember thinking "wow...rowlands can put some good consise moral lessons in her work". I think the influence she has is ok. It could be worse...

I dug it.

Finally got to see this. Very impressive. Probably the funniest of the series so far - the bloke playing Mad Eye Moody really cracked me up.

I'm not a big fan of Mike "Four Weddings and a Funeral" Newell - and there were a few bits in here with the adolescent boys talking to girls that did have the slight stench of Hugh Grant about them - but overall - he did a very good job - as mentioned earlier, bringing quite a bit of humour into it. He seemed to get a good performance out of the boys - especially Ron - who I have always thought was the weakest actor of the ensemble (he was awful in Chamber of Secrets - pulling stupid faces all the time). By contrast though, Hermione was a bit annoying in this movie - with a frequent 'turd-under-the-nose' expression going on. Shame - I thought she really shone in the last movie.

There were probably a few gaps in here for people who haven't read the book - but tough - read the book you illiterate bastards.

I really loved Cuaron's HP and the POA - I thought it would be very hard to top. This movie may just have done it though.

BTW: Still not sure if it's OK to comment on Hermione's appearance yet - but the Fleur Delacoeur girly is apparently over 21 - and if you Google her, I've heard that you can find clips of her doing nude scenes in French movies (just in case anyone's interested).
