Music that relies really heavily on certain genres is weakcore. Some genre descriptions can be useful or useless depending on who is talking to who. Some of them become sheer destructive forces.
A lot of the time, people say nerdcore to meany nerdy rapping. And if a piece of music is just nerdy rapping, it's probably going to be missing a couple of elements that make it good.
Songs that were made just because nerdy rapping is cool to some people are usually pretty dumb. I agree that it is a novelty. MC Chris is a funny guy and then he occasionally raps, and I feel like a lot of successful acts that are called nerdcore are similarly funny shows that have rap in them. I don't know if that's gonna stay funny forever...or for more than a couple weeks. But HEY, a lot of people are different than me. Some of them dress in anthropomorphized animal suits and have sexual encounters. /SHRUG
(Speaking of furries(?!),) I like this song (http://www.songfight.org/music/in_full_ ... 0b_ife.mp3) which I think was a collaboration between Mogosagatai and WreckdoM. It is by nerdy people and has nerdy references in it. AM I CONTRADICTING MYSELF?!

Here's a list of nerdcore songs I like:
MC Frontalot - Gonna be your man
It's funny, fun and catchy. Other frontalot songs have some really clever lyrics, but I'm just not into the style.
Frontalittle Squad - Space Cadet
Some of the rapping is sub-par, but that chorus is pretty damn awesome.
I agree with everyone who said that to be good you have to just write good songs and not worry about sticking to your genre. Not much else to say. It's pretty simple.

Weakcore? where do I sign up?Egg wrote:Music that relies really heavily on certain genres is weakcore.
I once slept with someone who used to walk around town wearing a prosethetic furry tail. He didn't wear it in bed. I think my point is made. (and no, I won't go any further into the shameful detail, if anyone was thinking of asking.)egg wrote:(Speaking of furries(?!)
I hope so. If I learnt anything from the encounter described above, it's what life's all about.egg wrote:AM I CONTRADICTING MYSELF?!

WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING TO THIS THREAD?!
I think a lot of us agree that nercore is a severely limited genre, but the direction that this thread has taken might be an indication of how incredibly HARMFUL the genre can be.
Now, Jpoint and Caravan Ray... I'm not shocked by these furry contributions from those two. But let me beg that this thread is cut short before somebody really innocent should mention some eldritch encounter with a man in a bunny suit and "little did I know it wasn't a carrot" story.
Nerdcore is all fun and games until somebody finds out it's not actually a carrot.

hmmmmm. good question. But wrong thread. C''mon... everyone knows that the only people allowed to derail threads are musicians.... uh... sorry...carry on.
...seriously... I have never met a single musician who wouldn't "derail" a conversation, jam, thread, musical theatre, or a bunny suit conversation without putting their own direction and spin on it! Frankly, (no, I"m not talking to FBF) isn't that what makes us equally annoying and awesome all at the same time???
NERDCORE is not an appropriate name for the genre. It should be Nerdsoul.
Yeah. Nerdsoul... that's WAY better.

I'm way too lazy to read back through, but has there been discussion on the difference between nerdcore and nerdlife?
Seems to me like Nerdcore is (or "should be") used to reference people in on the joke. And Nerdlife is (or "should be") used to reference people who take it way too seriously.
Your definitions may vary (except in the state of Massachusetts, void where prohibited).
