Re: songwriting

MC Eric B wrote:1. I can write both the lyrics and music, and have a good singer perform it. The songs may go on to become massive hits (on Songfight), but I will hardly get any of the credit since nobody ever remembers who wrote and arranged the song.
Bernie gets the same money as Elton from performance and mechanical royalties. Bernie is rich beyond our imaginations because of a few songs he wrote "off the cuff" as he himself says. Elton of course has to work very hard for the concert dough, performances from which Bernie gets performance royalties as well.

This is the first time I've heard you use your voice in one of your mixes, or was that some other guys voice? When I get the time, I want to do some insane grungy/electronica song with you after I learn a few more recording tricks.
Deal, when I get back from Perú at the end of April we'll see if we can push operation 'too many bodies' into exsistence... what'd'ya say?!? (hopefully I'll get a chance to speak to Pedro Carpet-Person on Friday)

Graded in strict order of preference:

HIGH DISTINCTION
1. Pigpen – Great delivery – very cool song. You got my vote
2. Shotpounder – Yeah!!! On further listens – I think you should have got the vote I gave to Pigpen
3. Darkest Daves – This is great. This is what my song was supposed to sound like
4. Carpetburn – Love it. You remind me of the Newtown Neurotics.
5. Anchors – This is very cool – I like it a lot
6. RossDurand – I’m detecting a distinct lift in your (already very fine) game in the last few weeks! You seem to have really taken your production up a notch. This song probably deserved to win this week.

DISTINCTION
7. Hell Yeahs – discussed elsewhere
8. Melvin – You sound like Melvin. You never do a bad song – and this is possibly one of your better ones.
9. Fine Tuvan Dining – On first listen I thought this was dumb. Second listen cracked me up. The charm creeps up on you.

CREDIT
10. ClosestDarkVepunind – Great job – I enjoyed this – cool horns, good vox.
11. Chack – Nice idea, nice execution. Too short
12. BLT – Rockin’ – but the vox need a bit more grunt
13. FlvxxmFlovvm – Jury’s still out. I miss your regular insanity – but this is a pretty damn cool song.

PASS
14. Hoosierdaddy – Competent – nice lead vox
15. Klownhole – Very Dead Kennedy-y. Good. Extra points for correct pronunciation of Pago Pago.
16. Bewells – Polised and professional
17. Dangerous Crouton – This is pretty cool. Sort of Talking Heads-y. Nice work
18. SaintCale - Nice

MARGINAL PASS
19. DJBigDick – This has its moments, but overall it doesn’t quite hold together as well as it should. Cool name though (I also have an extraordinarily large penis).
20. MicoSaudad – Not really grabbin me
21. Signboy – Not bad – shame it didn’t have a decent chorus
22. Master Hyde – Well done, but not my thing
23. Doorite&Rankinstein – Are you Fun Loving Criminals little brothers?

FAIL
24. Eclectic SpOOns – couldn’t get into it
25. ShaelRiley – The Scissor Sister-y vocals annoy me
26. ShoehornTC – Boring as batshit
27. MCEricB – You sound constipated. You may need a higher fibre diet.
28. Eddie Lance – I don’t get it
29. Superteen – No
30. PhilsFirstTrombone – No, it couldn’t have been worse

Pursy is a game kids play. I suppose Adults could play too. In this case they messed up and ending up getting a dude killed. Hope this helps.

Thanks! That is one of the highest distinctions we could receive.

He wrote and played all of our bass in this song.

werd. It looks like I might be a bit drugged up and croaky for that unfortunately, but i'll be there.

Eat that whoever won this fight; Ray liked us better than you. How does that victory taste now eh? Now if only the Neurotics weren't a ridiculously obscure band that only released stuff on wax cylinders then I'd be able to investigate the comparison, hmmm.

I cheat. :) I've got an awesome glitch vst plugin by dblue.

http://illformed.org/glitch/

And it looks like they have a new version out. *yoink*

I used it on my drums on control yourself to get a really nice faux drum and bass slash idm sound, and ncie variations without having to manually do them myself.

i'm a fake!! *hangs head*

It's *really* fun to have a live input running straight into this and just talk through it. You totally end up sounding like shodan? from system shock.

How does that make you a fake? You're creating a killer effect and arranging it rhythmically into the mix. I call that creative. I dug it. I'll have to go listen to your Control Yourself song.

 Newtown Neurotcs

They were one of my favourite bands when I was a teenager - and yes, I thought they were only available on vinyl...but google tells me you can now get them on CD - cool - I haven't heard them for years - since my old cassette got chewed (ask your parents what 'cassettes' were)
