I couldn't find the "as long as it takes" option, so I went with 50 or more to buy some time.

Spud and JB will have a child.

A child, born of immaculate conception.

A child, born in the future, but raised in an alternate dimension. Trained in the art of phpbb and DAW and dictatorship.

They shall teach it the timeless lore of songfight and all it's beautiful moments shall be preserved as the child carries on the legacy.

It will be raised in the future, but I happen to be privy to the fact that this child was in fact transported THROUGH TIME and now resides in Alberta where it watches...and waits...for the right time.

For they named their child Sven.

You know, I was going to say:
"Why the fuck do you fucking care? You fucking idiot. Go home and die."

But then a sudden wave of love washed over my soul and I figured you're just reaching out for attention. A poor child who isn't loved enough gasping for the sweet air of an early 70s Stevie Wonder lullaby.

No, I was mistaken. That wasn't it, I was just hungry. Now I've eaten and I stand by the original version. Silly me.

Good. and I will have a child who is going to go to the schools and have undemocratically administered communities banned so that kids don't get exposed to such crapass ideas. Then my kid is going to go to law school and take the so-called "owners" of these communities into the superior courts and show the judge that this is an unethical practice.

The only right to ownership here belongs to the community collectively.

I hate to feed the troll. I really do. But... man, I'm in my fourth semester studying political science, and there's this thing called the consent of the governed. It ties in with the notion of legitimacy. A government is legitimate basically if it's perceived to be legitimate, absent Jimmy Carter's friends watching the polls for bad behavior. The only person who's ever questioned the administration--in the sense of being the administrators of the site--of Spud and JB is you, oust the mods. In this case, there's an implicit consent. There's no voting for the "mods", but you're free to start your own knockoff site. Everyone else here seems to be content, because your ridiculous effort at making a "democratic" knockoff went nowhere, and quickly, because spud and JB are singularly great guys for the job and great guys besides which. The government analogy is flawed in this case besides because the site was started by a guy who called himself Narbotic and no-one else. He ran it until he didn't run it anymore, then Spud picked the site up and as a phoenix from the ashes it was reborn. It's never been "democratic"--I use quotation marks because I disagree with the perverse meanings you've attached to the word--and it's never promised to be. It's a hobby site for hobbyists. There's no advertising, there's no prizes, and every few months you come along to rattle things up for whatever sophomoric revolutionary ends you have, or allege to have. As I began to say, though, the governmental analogy is fundamentally flawed in this context, because there's nothing stopping you from starting a competing site, and there's nothing stopping anyone here from leaving. People stay here because they want to. That's that. You don't believe in freedom. You don't want Spud and JB to have the freedom to run this site as they wish, and you don't want the songfighters to have the freedom to submit to their way of doing things.

To end my mostly-calm, and I believe rational argument, I'll say this: Go fuck yourself, and I've said all I need to say.

You flunk! I am not consenting and I am not a minority. The majority who have come here have left. They don't consent. Every web community out there has a small handful of mudsuckers who consistently face down each "intruder" one by one, posing themselves as a majority.

I say that you are a minority. If there are 50 muds here, you can only do that 50 times. After you have faced down your 51st opponent you become a minority. I say you are vastly outnumbered. And I am appalled to hear that you studied Political Science.

Dude, the Klobb is diarrhea coming out of my dick. Ken Lobb is an egotistical cock whose company sold out and now makes shitloads of fuck like Kameo. The masterpiece that was GoldenEye 007 suffered greatly because of that gun.

Hey Oust, I'm kinda curious after all this time: Why "mudsuckers"? That's an unusual choice.

Edit: Also, I would be more than happy to run with the torch in running SongFight should Spud and JB get tired of it, and I'm sure I'm far from alone in the sentiment. SF will be around for a long time.

You have run over your limit. You have driven out more of the community than you yourselves comprise. You are mudsuckers.

BTW - Although many of us feel about this place as a community. It is not advertised as such anywhere I can find

"Song Fight is a free Web site where Internet musicians enter their work into competition. Every week several titles are provided, the competitors write a brand new song inspired by the title of their choice, and the Internet at large is invited to vote for their favorite song for each title.

Our goal is to provide a venue for new music and creative expression on the Internet."
This advertises neither democracy in decision making, nor a community. The members made the community, the FMs give us the tools to do it. Many sidefights have run largely off site (Nur Ein! comes to mind), and the mods did nothing to interfere (Spud even participated)

Go start your own damn site - variety is the spice of life!!!

[troll goes, "munch, munch, munch"]

PS - Can we keep this monkey business out of the review threads??

besides the question being posted by someone so ludicrously deluded, it is an interesting question.

the SongFight torch has been passed once, will it be passed again, once JB and Spud are old and frail, grumbling that these new fangled computers aren't anywhere near as good as their old fangled computers?

Somehow, of the existing community, I can see Niv taking over.

Oh, and Oust, I'd quite like to see your research and statistics that clearly tells us that more members have been driven from the community than are a part of it. All those people. All those people.... communityless.

You need to work out the math. The people you have chased away outnumber you. You have a poor record for member retention. Why would anyone want to participate in a community that is not their own? The only ones who belong here are the owners. You have no responsibilities and no rights. That is not community. I see nothing like that in the real world. maybe mental institutions and prisons are run this way but most towns, counties, school organizations, and every community club such as Toastmaster, PTA, Lions, Rotary and on and on and on does it traditionally. You are a bunch of revolutionary radicals. Where is your manifesto? What is wrong with the right way that you had to come up with the wrong way to do it?

Well. You just keep on doing it the wrong way. The rest of us are laughing. Isn't that right? Let's hear what the rest of us have to say.

But who is chased away and who is not participating because they decided that this just isn't there thing? Sure, I can look at the registered member on the board, the number of artists that have contributed, but how many are absent because they just aren't into the whole SongFight thing really, and how many are absent because Spud scared them away by looking like a mountain man?

Sure, if you can point the numbers and say, "these people are defintaly not here because they are being oppressed" or however the fuck you want to put it, then yeah, bingo, dude, you are totally right. But assumptions and heresay do not a good argument make.

I also think that the fact that this place resembles an insane asylum in organsation is really all the answer you need.

OH. Isn't that interesting? Absolutely no one pops up to agree with me. So we are to presume that no one agrees with me? No. that is incorrect. The people who agree with me were all systematically driven out by a small handful thereby squelching the community.

I have seen this happen so many times that I am positive that I am judging the scenario correctly. I have weighed the "trolls" against the mudsuckers and the "trolls" tip the balance in their direction.

There are only about 50 mudsuckers here. I am sure that you all can testify that you have had more than 50 problems come through the door. After 50 the problem points toward yourselves. You are past the allowable limit. This goes for every other so-called "community" on the web.
