Random Coversong project

Post by Ross »

Bored? Don't like the title this week? Caught in the Songfight! gap?
Give yourself a random cover song assignment.
Here's how.
(I know this looks like a lot of steps, but it's simpler than it looks.)
(1) Click here.
This will open a window with a random number between 1 and 1884. Write
this number down. It is your "artist" number.
(2) Now go look at the artist list here. Find your
artist number on the left side of the screen. To the right is the name
of the artist who's song you will be covering. You'll probably want to
write this down, too.
(3) If the number in parentheses after the name of the artist is "(1)"
that means they've only ever done 1 song - go to their archive page,
find the song, cover it, post it, link to it here. If not, go on to
step 4, below.
(4) If the number in parantheses after the name of the artist is
greater than 1, click here.
This will give you a number between 1 and 87 (curse that WreckdoM).
This is your "song" number. Write this down, too.
(5) Now go to the archive page for the artist that matches your artist
number. Divide your song number by the number of songs that artist has
done so that you receive a remainder. Using the remainder, count down
their list of songs - the song you end on is the song you cover.
For example, if the artist has done 14 songs and
your "song number" is 50 - you get a remainder of 8. Count down to the
8th song on your list - that's the song you cover.
If it divides evenly (no remainder), that means you do the last song on the list.
What if you are left without a remainder?

Ok, I fixed that. I think a server is down or something. It should work now - I hope you don't get yourself, too (you didn't get 179-183, did you?)

Sorry for the inconvenience.

I got 930. Lets try again.
edit: oh good, I got it by step 3 so I didn't have to do all of that algebra.
I got joB "boundaries" I'll have fun with that one. What's the due date?

Hmmm. It looks to me like there are a lot of artists listed that may no longer be active on the boards or anything.

If you're going to do a cover you'd kind of like to know that the person you cover is likely to listen to it.

Well, I just stuck this out here as a sort of resource, I didn't imagine a deadline. I just figured that someone out there waiting for a title could get themselves a project, stretch a little, etc...I put it in "Monkey Business" and not 'Sidefights" on purpose. There are plenty of sidefights qued up already.
So do it when you want, do it more than once, whatever!

Same comment. This was more about getting something different to do. If you want to, keep clicking till you get someone active but still have a measure of randomness (i.e. not having to actually choose). I wasn't intending a bunch of rules or strict coherence, just another way to generate a project.

Hostess Mostess has received A** Chic's "House In My Head". A lovely song that seems right up our alley. If there is time, O Random Number Generator, if there is time.
