I haven't got a clue what you are talking about.

Every full version of Audition, Cubase, Sonar, etc., have fully-functional mp3 encoding abilities.

When *I* do a song, I make a master mixdown wave (.wav) for archival purposes, and then resave the mixdown as mp3. No exporting/external encoders/headaches. I honestly didn't even realise this was a problem for people. However, I have no moral dillemas about using commercial software that I didn't pay for , as long as I'm an amatuer musician who doesn't make any money doing this.

Make more sense now? :)

[edit] Unless, of course, you don't know what alt.binaries.sounds.utilities is. (It's a binary newsgroup that usually has one of the aforementioned DAW apps available for download)

That last bit is what I meant.

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, I use SONAR and to enable the MP3 encoder they want more money. I also found that the external LAME encoder just works better than the native one.

Well, there are advantages of having fully-legit software, I guess. Tech support, updates, etc., but then again, you are *way* more into the music thing than I am these days. I think the last time I fired up Audition was a week ago, and only to show a friend what I recorded recently.

I got Sonar 6 (producer edition, I think?) from bittorrent a while ago. COME TO THE DARK SIDE, LUKE.

I use the Fluffy recipe as well. An old old copy of fluffy's LAME script, which points to a LAME binary that I keep on an external drive and just drop my mastered wav files onto. And I'm a Cubase user-- the Cubase SX "export to MP3" fucking SUUUUUUCKS.

I master all my tracks with Ozone. I recently got LAME remembering fluffy's recommendation and so far it is very nice.

I don't pay for my food, since I'm really an amateur food eater and don't make any money off the food I eat. I just walk into alt.food.stores.utilities and stuff my jacket. The fact that some farmer toils 7 days a week from 5 am to 9 pm to grow the food doesn't affect me, since he's prolly a subsidized lazy bastard anyway, and really, how would the little money he'd eventually receive from me help him produce better food? I'm sure he has no problem supporting his 13 kids off the money he makes from professional food eaters.

I bet professional food eaters are all sponsored and don't pay for their food either.

Weren't we talking about which program is best to use for converting WAV to MP3? Let's keep on topic, I see someone started a thread for "legit or illegit"-- if you have a response to that issue, post it there please.
