There's a tree on my house.

Links and other hanky panky that doesn't have to do with anything in particular.

There's a tree on my house.

Post by jimtyrrell »

I'll post some photos as soon as I get back home, if the power's back up by then. It's a big tree, but I think the damage is pretty minimal. It was too crappy out to get a good look though.

The family is shaken but unharmed. They've evacuated to my parents' place, to have pancakes and syrup by the woodstove. I'm at work.

New Hampshire is full of 'em, I've been there. Hope it's not too bad, Jim, and good to hear the family's ok. It was crazy windy here last night.

Happy to hear everyone is ok. I have a theory about why trees fall on houses instead of falling in any other direction of the 360 degree possibilities. It has to do with tree porn, sexy houses and wood pulp. But I won't bore you with the details.

A tree outside my house went down and landed(thankfully) in the street in the direction of a big front yard. It did block a main road though, so school was canceled. My parents are in Mexico at the moment, so I was hanging out at home all day, in the dark, alone, with no power, playing guitar. It was great :P

Still no photos, but here's an update:

The tree is off my house. And it appears to have fallen onto a smaller tree before hitting the roof, cushioning the blow to the point where it caused no significant damage to the house. And so far, my musical instruments are fine too. :)

But we still have no power. The whole neighborhood is out, and my local electric company is not answering phone calls, so I can't even find out when it'll be back up. Gossipers about town are saying anything from three days to two weeks.

The family is still at my folks' place, enjoying some coffee and munchkins from Dunkin' Donuts. The power is on at work (but the phone is down), so that's where I am.

The weather is crazy lately. I live by the Raritan river and yesterday it flooded. It was insane. It turned milk chocolate brown from all the dirt it was picking up and all the nearby areas just seemed to vanish in its wake.

All the joy of a Nor'easter.

Los Cabos, I think. It's this company incentive where if you sell more than $100 million then you get a vacation.

Still no power. But I found the cord for my digital camera, and brought it in to work:

You should leave it like that and decorate it with lights in December.

At this rate, I'd have to hook the lights up to a car battery, Clark Griswold-style.

Whatever it takes! Every TV station in New England would send a truck up there to get pictures for their local news. It'd look even cooler if the whole neighborhood was dark, but (bad luck for you!) you'll probably have power back on by then.

That's true. But alas, the tree was dismantled yesterday, and is now laying in two-foot logs across the front yard. Anyone need any wood? Better still, does anyone have an extra wood-powered generator?

Nice looking house Jim. I can see why that tree decided to roof hump it.

The power came back up yesterday around 4. We're mostly moved back in. So, back to business.

Which, come to think of it. was pretty much just playing World of Warcraft.
