Great Guitars of Songfight
Let's talk about some of our favorite guitarists in Songfight.
One of my favorites that doesn't get enough mentions is Jason Spainhower of Klownhole. He's one of my top 3 favorite SF guitarists along with Glenn Case and another underrated guitarist Wreckdom's King Colon.

There are some great axe wielders out there although my favourite would be Jimmy Nylon of Pompeii http://www.myspace.com/jimmynylon. He's the nuts.

Dr. Jimmy Nylon is great. I love how some of my favorite guitarists at SF have really strong frontmen so their influence is subtle. Pompeii is a great example. If you listen to a "Promise is a Promise', you get so caught up in the lyrics that you miss all this great guitar work.

I'd have to agree on these two, plus I'd add Charlie of the Paco Del Stinko fame. I really like how Charlie will shred a scale and add in some loose soul and the way he joins back into the song when he ends a solo.ken wrote:I'm spoiled for sure playing with Lunkhead and Glenny from Zipline. My favorite is probably Furry Pedro, he consistantly does things where I ask my self, how exactly did he do that?
I have to agree with the Paco Del Stinko (Charlie) and Lunkhead mentions.
Paco: Super humble guy, but an awesome musician. Oodles of soul in his guitar playing, haven't heard a bad lick out of this incredibly prolific guy.
Lunkhead: Absolutely fantastic and beautiful player. I get chills from some of his fingerpicking stuff. He can bust out the soaring ripping solos on his Les Paul when he pleases. (just wish he'd turn up, as a general rule)
Others to mention are :
Jolly Roger: I know he's a drummer for the most part but once in a while he submits some really shredding guitars.
Billy's Little Trip: He's done some very tasty solos and riffs.
Ben Krieger: Man I wish this guy submitted more, I haven't stopped listening to Cable Beach since it was released.
Evil-E: My appriciation for his playing really came from the West Coast Tour, beautiful phrasing and tasy licks!

I have to give props to the guitar skills of Glennny. If you haven't heard Zinkline's "Bending the Worlds", you are missing out on some great guitar work by Glen. (Plus it also shows why Ken is such a sought after drummer)

I have had the pleasure of doing a cover song with Paco del Stinko's axe-work featured - I sought him out specifically for his guitaralising. Likewise, Jeff of Flvxxm Flovvvm is also a favourite - and we have a project currently 'in the works'.
And I can't forget The Big Crouton. Doesn't really seem to be a regular here - but he contributed a wonderful guitar solo to this Rone Rivendale cover version
Live-wise - I do remember being particularly impressed by Lunkhead, Puce and the great Booty Chesterfield.

From spoken word to actual singing, I can screw up any style with style.

How could I have not mentioned Philip Lee Redmon. Whether in the Hell Yeahs, Spy vs. Pie or solo Abominominous, he can definitely play with the best of them.

And Hip Cola, and Leaf. When Gert got together last summer, I was blown away by the professionalism of all those dirty Gerties (Tonetripper, too, but he's on the bass.) Humble guys, great guys, and fantastic guitarists.thehipcola wrote: Des AND Boltoph...awesome awesome players and writers. I'm always picking my jaw up off the floor when working with those cats.
And when I saw Des play at his CD release party pretty much a year ago (I think it was April 22) I was amazed at how well he did the whole show, from the first songs when he was solo to the last songs with the full band.
