Yeah, I'm pretty sure all he volunteered was himself and a drumset...15-16 puzzle wrote:I searched for some sort of anything that Brother Machine had said he was going to be doing anything other than playing, and I couldn't find anything. i have 6 eyewitnesses that say brother machine was never anywhere near that swift boat. so there.
really, i'm not trying to make an issue of this. i'm just a small fish in a big pond. i took no offense to frankie's remarks. i think he could have left a certain part out of his post and still gotten his point across, but i'll be the first to say he tried to be diplomatic about it when he said it. that's cool. if songfight is better served by having someone who's attended before host it, thats whats best. the decision isn't mine to make anyways.

Boston Pops usually play on the 4th, I seem to recall...jb wrote:As for dates, late June or early July are traditional. In Lancaster it was on July 4th weekend. That was fun. OH MAN FIREWORKS IN BOSTON WOULD BE COOL.

My nose is not truely out of joint... it did get broken once by my sister, but really, it's fine.
Anyway, I respect the fears that key things might get missed that could potentially degrade the event from what people are used to. I'm honestly more interested in just organizing a show, however, if a ton of songfighters all said, "damn, I want to be there" I would accomodate. It's that simple. As far as the "annual convention" for songfight (because, in essesence that is what is being discussed) I hope to attend. It is clear that the idea of Quadra is intriguing to some, and you are welcome to be here and play and hang out and enjoy a part of the world that is significantly different from anywhere else. However, in the interests of facilitating the best event that would make the most people happy, it should probably be held in Brisbane, or more aptly, Surfer's Paradise, cause that place rips and I believe the drinking age is 18....
No seriously, the point is apt... just set a place and a date already so people can plan on being there!!!

Hey, sorry to start a fire and then walk away, but I haven't had time to write a sensitive response to the melee that apparently ensued after my post. I don't know how else to say "respectfully" or "I mean no disrespect" but I'll give it a try:
Jack: I was going to PM you and say "hey, I didn't mean anything....blah blah blah" but you seem like a cool guy and I'll just address it here. I'm guessing you'd be quite capable of organizing an event where you live and, although I'd be mighty impressed if you could make it happen in Las Vegas, I have no reason to doubt you could do it. I do think there is a set of expectations for the regular attendees that has evolved over the course of the last several years, but maybe those expectations need to be quelled. Maybe an organizer who's never attended would put on a show with an entirely different attitude or maybe that person would have a level of enthusiasm that makes for a better event. I don't know. All I know is it was not my intention to offend you (and I realize you said I didn't, but some of your posts seemed to indicate otherwise) and maybe I was out of line in saying "we have always said..."--I'm just speaking for myself and usually at 6AM when I shouldn't be speaking at all.
Leaf: I hav no idea what the teenage snobbery comment was about, but if it was in reference to my post, please explain and I will either offer you a similar apology or tell you to get bent, depending on your explanation.
Marcus: Sorry, I didn't see your post where you basically said the same thing I already said. Are you upset because no-one got mad at you?
I don't think I would attend a Las Vegas show this year because I was just there last summer and because it was very uncomfortable and expensive. If that fact inspires you to renew working toward the Las Vegas show, I say go for it!

My undetermined financial situation this summer combined with my lack of enthusiasm to ever visit Las Vegas work against my whole opinion of having the gig there. I'd go though. Boston, if asked out of the current places being discussed...is my favorite idea... then it's a toss up between Quadra and Cleveland next. I like the idea of Quadra RIGHT NOW because I am hating my job right now...so that sounds like a nice 'get away'. Cleveland sounds cool because I might could shoot up to see relatives in Michigan / Northern Ohio or even convince my folks to come up or meet me somewhere for the very same reasons. Plus, I've never been to Cleveland and have a really good friend from there. I've always wondered if he headed back there, and if he did...would I run into him.

cleveland, despite what ian hunter may claim to the contrary, decidedly does not rock. my vote would go for boston. however, cleveland IS a bit more convenient to me so if the event DOES somehow end up there, damn straight i will be there. LV would be a bit trickier because i'd have to come up with plane fare, but that is still entirely doable. i'd totally be there too. so, whatever. but still i vote for boston.

So, is that it? It's come down to the old guard? I'm not sure about this concept. I was soooooooo looking forward to Boston and I would have taken an active position in getting it going. Vegas is hard and according to the last couple of Songfight! Live shows they all been out west. How about a little loving for the East..... uh I don't know..... uh like Boston. Seriously bummed JB although never been to Vegas before (kinda scared BlackJack will get me).jb wrote:Vegas it is.
I vote for a Songfight Live for 2006, one which I would love to be a major part of organizing if I go to 2005 (if it's in Boston *sniff*) to happen in Toronto. A rockin' city in the summer by the way (we Canucks know how to party - refer to Florida - March Break). There is an awesome Island off the City called funnily enough, Toronto Island where a great party could happen with tents and loads of fun with an awesome venue. Only 15 minutes by ferry. I would be all over getting this event going and since I have not been to a Songfight! Live yet and perhaps it happened in 2005 in Boston, then maybe the moderator could allow me to take on such a task. I'm pretty darn connected here in T.O. Think about it would ya.

I'm in Toronto every summer for a week or so, so it would be pretty cool to meet up with some SFers. Although, dude, 2006, that's so looooong away.tonetripper wrote:I vote for a Songfight Live for 2006, one which I would love to be a major part of organizing if I go to 2005 (if it's in Boston *sniff*) to happen in Toronto. I think I do after reading your post, but I'm a little developmentally challenged most times, so maybe you can make me understand better.tviyh wrote:man, dude, read that post you just quoted within the context of the posts immediately preceding and postceding it. then laugh with the rest of us. hahaha get it?

ok, for tonetripper's benefit.
so like, frankie wrote:I don't think I would attend a Las Vegas show this year because I was just there last summer and because it was very uncomfortable and expensive. If that fact inspires you to renew working toward the Las Vegas show, I say go for it!
and then like a minute later, jb wrote:Vegas it is.
so of course in response, frankie wrote:Nice.
all better now?and in case you couldn't tell from the playful banter what the deal is up until this point, then hoblit wrote:You guys crack me up.

(tonetripper, i am just making a joke. do not panic. however, if you refer to us as "the old guard" again, especially in that context, i will hunt you down and kill you. we are american. we do not take these things lightly. you saw fahrenheit 911. we have all those guns and stuff. also, i am just kidding about killing you so do not panic and call the american embassy to report my remarks. but keep in mind, it is okay to be stupid occasionally, but not insulting at the same time. it's okay to be insulting if you are smart. it is not okay for you to be insulting. i am just kidding--do not panic. There is no way for me to determine your level of intelligence based on one instance of you failing to infer sarcasm from a message board exchange. and now i roll my eyes at you.
