It's typical for these roll call threads to die over the weekend, but I'm hoping they pick back up over the week, I've really enjoyed them.

Spencer had a pretty bad bloody nose this morning. That sucked. I tried to doze off while checking on his nose every once in a while. He's such a pro at it now, he's had so many lately. Allison slept in until 10 thanks to her going to bed late last night. Sleeping in never happens around here.

Well, yesterday was busy with family stuff and my mind trying to sort thing out for this week's Nur Ein! an idea hit while hitting the sack last night, so I'm looking forward to getting most of the song hammered out today.

Interested to listen to Evil April as much as a I can and see if I have fighting chance of being a contender.

Far too much of my mental energy goes into making music.

Back to work tomorrow for a busy week!

I'm sitting in the Orlando airport after a crazy few days (mostly involving turning upside down and screaming like a six year old). We ate at some pretty fancy places, and some pretty un-fancy cheap places. Universal, Islands of Adventure, and Seaworld were all awesome. I love going on vacation with my family. We go for long weekends, which is just long enough for us to get stuff done, but short enough that we don't go crazy with one another.

My flight doesn't leave for another hour, but hey, laptop and wireless is keeping me busy. I have to write a paper when I get home, all about Pride and Prejudice, and then start studying for the AP test for US history.

The cat has been home alone these past few days (a friend of mine has been feeding and playing with her though of course) so she'll be either really clingy when we get in, or completely ignore us. Either way there'll be last night's Any Dream Will Do and Doctor Who to watch, so it'll be good to unwind before stuff gets crazy this week (Although there are only 3 other people in one of my classes since the seniors have left for internship. Guitar Hero II on the huge projector in the million dollar room for the next month and a half? Hell. Yes.)

So I chickened out on doing the "controversial" song I was thinking to do for the offering in church this morning and just pulled out an older "nice" song that fit the sermon reasonably well. Sang it pretty well, considering it's probably been two or three years since I've done it... and I did get a kinda cool recording of the new song to put in the archives, so it counts as another song written. Closing in on 900...

We thought about going to Mimi's for Sunday Brunch today, but by 10:30 there were people waiting outside, so skip that... dropped Sheryl at home to work on her schoolteacher stuff and I'm over at my mom's fixing lunch and whatever else... there's a picnic / event over at the church at 4:00 today, but it's bright and sunny and (I think) supposed to be in the 90s by then, so we'll probably skip that one too unless I decide to stop by in my capacity as unofficial church photographer. I left the bass and guitar at the church this morning (to make room in the car) and I'll probably stop by tomorrow to pick them up... plus the sound tech screwed up the tape of the first service (didn't rewind the old one he was recording over) so he's going to try again second service and I'll need to pick that up to make an MP3.

So forth and so on. Woke up in a pretty unhappy mood this morning, the dark side was definitely winning. Doing a little better now that the music for church is over and it's mostly just a lazy Sunday.

Rachael's company is on their way home, and we're on the way to spend time with Rachael's family today. It's a combination celebration that includes Rachael's 30th birthday (which was on April 27th)

Rachael got new tattoos yesterday, and they look cool. Ask nice, and she might post pictures.

But for now? Road trip.

Day 1 of writing Nur Ein2, round 1.
A bit hung over from last nights shindig.
The prawns were a hit.
Tons of food left over.
It's 12:30 noon here.
Still have people sleeping in my music room.
Made my famous Huevos rancheros.
The wondrous aroma woke everyone except the music room squatters.
'bout ready to run in screaming FIRE!
Absolute beautiful day.
Need a bloody Mary with extra Tabasco.
No vodka, tomato juice nor Tabasco to be found.
Settled for a tall glass of iced tea and 3 aspirins.
Big poker tourney here tonight.
Must get started on my song soon.
Will have to DVR Family Guy.
Hopes it's not a repeat.
Knocking on the coffee table and saying come in.
Making my dogs bark.
Hurting my head but worth it if it's waking up the squatters.

I had two Sparks Plus's last night, and they crapped right on my face!

I slept on the floor, and as a result, my entire leg-plug-in-to-body area is fucking WRECKED! So so far today has been in the good chair with my feet way up.

..though, you know, I really should mow the lawn.

No, it was this, written based on the sermon title ("The Perfect Body") and scripture that I had ahead of time. Lyrics aren't in quite their final form, but they're close. I was even gonna sing "don't like the choir..." instead of "I hate the choir," but it's still kinda... negative in places...

I have done a Randy Newman song ("Baltimore") at a church event... many years ago, I did Bruce Springsteen's "Sherry Darling" in a sort of out-of-context way in a church service, and last month I did Richard Thompson's "For Shame of Being Wrong" after hearing it for the first time on my MP3 player while out walking the dogs that morning.

Fave story in this context... many, many years ago, my dad (guitar), my brother (drums) and I (guitar) were invited by a friend of my dad's to go sing on a Sunday morning at a rest home... I understood it was church, but it just seemed like the guy who was running the thing was going out of his way to force "churchy stuff" down the throats of what was a pretty much captive audience... so at some point, when he asked me if I'd like to do a song, I pulled out "Me & Bobby McGee." Just to be able to say that I did something for the people we were singing for, not just force-feeding them our particular theology...

weekend: Went with Legs to get stuff for her dads 50th birthday. So plenty of travelling around, looking at balloons, and plastic cutlery and whatnot. I can't believe that took most of a day. That night (Sat night) we went and saw Spiderman 3. It was pretty good. Not amazing, but not a bad movie.

Then on Sunday, it was my cousins son's 7th birthday. Went round there for a while, ate far to many party pies and pasties. When we were at the supermarket getting a drink to take to the party, I also bought a large custard tart for $1. Bargain! I love custard tart. Spent Sunday evening working on my Nur Ein entry, which came together surprisingly easy. I take that as a bad omen, surely anything that simple to write and record is bound be torn to shreds.

Monday: So Legs is sick this morning. Stuffed a bunch of pills into her face and went to work. Have to try and get the bulk of Australian Forest & Timber News out of the way, as it has to go to the printer by Wednesday.

Indeed it was. The setup on the grill was pretty easy, so it was burgers and beers for dinner with some friends. The kids are off to bed now, and I'm finishing up my last drink. We didn't run throught he whole twelve, we weren't feeling that ambitious.

Did a lot of Wii Bowling today, too. Hey Bjam, send me a Mii, will ya?

Charles, that is an incredible song, and I think it would have been awesome to lay that out for your church. But, I'm glad I got to hear it, as a bitter former church-goer I tapped into those lyrics immediately. Great job.

Drum Clinic. He was really cool and answered one of my questions! I went with my dad, and it was a great time, even though the picture I got with him was pretty bad.
