Set up live gigs with each other, announce gigs you're playing around the country or whatever, talk about how the show went, post links to recordings, etc.
Did you go to an awesome concert last weekend? Are you going to an amazing show next month? Do you really want to go to a great show? But you don't want to start a whole new thread about one show?
Well then. You should just post in here. Think of it as "What are you currently listening to" but for seeing live music.
Next weekend I'm going to the XPN festival in Camden. Over 40 awesome bands over four days, and all for a relatively cheap price($20 for members of XPN, $30 for non-members, though I think they go up at the gate).
Not soon, but a couple of weeks ago M and I went (again) to see the Smothers Brothers, and opening for them The Kingston Trio. Fantastic. Many great songs. I love the SB's rapport, like they've been working together their whole lives (oh yeah, they have). Fun!
Also, Wolf Trap is an awesome venue near DC (the only US National Park dedicated to the performing arts, they say).

Oh, also, we were in NYC on last weekend and we got half-price tickets to the show Mamma Mia, which was really a lot of fun. I know way more Abba songs than I thought I did!

After having seen The Pixies earlie this year - I can now tick off The Saints as another of "my major musical influences I have seen live'
That's awesome. I hope the (original lineup) Saints make it to the US. (This also marks the first and probably only time I'd rather see a band in their Marty Willson-Piper-less incarnation).
Why not, we (FINALLY) got to see Radio Birdman.
Another influential band to recently reform, record and tour is Mission of Burma. I think that with the Pixies, Stooges, Saints, RadioBirdman and Mission of Burma reforming we are really only missing Husker Du and Velvet Underground reunions to complete the set.

Another great band, for sure - but not Queenslanders, Sydney-siders. They (and the Hoodoo Gurus and Hunters and Collectors) were my favourite bands to see live when I was a teenager - they came to my home town of Newcastle very frequently.
The Church have reformed a few times, but I think this is just a one off for The Saints. I would be very surprised if they toured the USA.
Radio Birdman is one band I never got to see live though. Great shame. (I did once play in a band with a drummer who was in medical school with Deniz Tek - but that's not really the same thing).

You need not tell *SHP* about the Church, or MWP, lol. I've been a shameless fanboy since the early 80's. In fact, I don't believe the Church have ever actually broken up, although they went through some weird times after the drummer (and his temp replacement) left and Peter Koppes quit for a few years and couple of albums. Fortunately, they've been going strong since Peter's return and addition of ex-Divinyls drummer Tim Powles.
I own a guitar once owned (and autographed) by MWP (a heavily modified Ric 260). It's the one I'm playing in the main photo on the Hand Puppet MySpace page.

Ahhh...(googled) you mean The Saints as in "Chris Bailey and others". Yes, of course - I sort of forgot about that - but I guess I really don't look as them as "The Saints". To me "The Saints" is the band with Chris Bailey and Ed Kuepper. Although Chris Bailey kept using the name after they broke up (and he did make some good records) - it really is a completely different thing from the band from Brisbane that played (I'm) Stranded and Know Your Product.
Anyway - great to see you're so up on your 1980s AusRock!

Yeah, I survived the New Wave Crisis by getting into Australian rock/punk/garage instead of the nonsense coming from the US and UK. I gotta tell you, though, that finding the stuff, or even information about it, in the US could be an adventure. Hard to believe how life was before the interwebs.
I also recently saw the Hoodoo Gurus here. I hadn't seen them in forever.

Go see The Cat Empire if you get a chance. I saw them at WOMADelaide a few years ago. They are a lot of fun.

The Saints last night were great. Better than I was expecting. Ed Kuepper is an amazing guitarist and Bailey's voice is superb (though he does come across as a complete wanker). Those two were made to play in a band together - it's a shame that rumour has it that they hate each other's guts... The Gurge were also a highlight - I'd forgotton how many great songs they have done.
This thread has inspired me to look up some concerts that are coming to town, and now I'm thinking of seeing Wilco and the Beastie Boys, both at a great medium-sized outdoor amphitheater in Berkeley, on consecutive nights towards the end of August. I've never seen either group before, and I know it would have been better to have seen them years ago, but I love the venue, so I'll probably brave the high ticket prices and annoying crowd anyway.
Not long after making my above post, I remembered that Erin and I are going to a "wedding" (more or less) that weekend, so we can't see either Wilco or the Beasties this time around...
A week from Saturday I'm going to the Virgin (as in Records) Festival in Baltimore at the Pimlico racetrack. I'm not really one for all-day concerts because they're usually overpriced and overhyped and everyone's all sweaty and annoying, but check out this lineup (in random order):

In both cases, I'm really going to check out the Second Stage acts beforehand. Cryin' Out Loud is doing the Steve Miller show, and The Crunchy Western Boys are playing before Alison Krauss. I know people in both of these bands, and I want to go check out the stage setup so I'll know what to expect when I play there on 8/10.
I might go see The Cure again, I think in September... keepin' it loose. I might buy tickets if I can find someone who'll go with me. (Not including our drummer's girlfriend) If not, then I'll just walk down there the night of the concert and consider buying a nosebleed seat.

So Nigel finally made it.
Virgin really knows how to put on a show. Usually 4 or 5 stages. We have an annual event called the KROQ Weenie Roast, sponsored by the radio station. It will have around 15 or 20 bands and multi stages.
We used to go every year, but the concert goers seem to be getting younger every year for some reason, so now we feel like creepy old people in a sea of kids.
I prefer the smaller venues with old punk bands. We saw Social D a while back and I think the youngest attendee was around 40, lol.
