Wow. Shocking, no daily roll call yet.

QOTD: What music are you planning on playing/listening to tonight, and where?

I am heading over to Cortes Island where my band, Big Mouth, is "headlining " a music Festival... hehe. Headlining. Funny.

Tons of bands are playing, so I AM STOKED!!

We'll be playing a few original tunes, some reggae classics like Dawn Penn's "No, no no you don't love me" and Max Romeo's "Chase the Devil", some songs by Seeed like "respectness" , Pink Floyd's Money..

I'm lookin forward to jamming, watching others, and partying!!

The files I re-submitted have been approved by the mastering people, so my CD is once again moving forward. I should be getting them 8/6, the Monday before the Weird Al show. Cutting it a little close. The T-shirts are already in, and the stickers have shipped.

QotD: I'm playing at The Balsams tonight. At first I thought it was going to be a mellow lounge/jazz scene, but it turns out most of the folks staying up there are just wanting to hear Margaritaville and Bad Moon Risin' like everyone else. My original material goes over pretty well up there though, so that's real cool.

Speaking of CDs my re-print of my live CD came in, and they look great, better than the original run. I got them from diskmakers. Not playing anything tonight that I know of; I may put the 5-disk changer on random or something... :)
What do the T-shirts and stickers look like, Jim?

QOTD: The Velvets' "Waiting for the Man" and the jazz standard "Why Don't You Do Right" for punkification by my embryonic band. And another song, for parodizing for the upcoming "So Weird" fight. And other chordic noodles trying to get something down for a long overdue project.

Listening & rearranging in my head, wherever I am.

Was going to go out tonight to catch any live music with Mrs. Rabid, but she trashed her foot yesterday and is thumping around the apartment today like a peg-legged pirate (complete with the sailor's salty swearing). And we're picking up the dog from the vet today who'd spent last night at the vet, getting a tumor chopped off and an ear operated on. So it's likely a comfort-food kind of evening.

Just as good. :D

And the accursed Book 7 is calling my name too. Why am I Rowling's bitch?

I was going to play today but jam got cancelled. I may start room recording the jams and putting some good bits out there, a couple of folks around here may like what we do. Nothing fancy, but we're all pretty much on the same page.

Tonight will be low key with groove. Jazz and/or classical guitar on Sundays. When I was in my early 20's, I listened to Pink Floyd-Animals and The Smiths-Queen Is Dead every Sunday for a summer. Don't understand why those two, and on that day, but it worked all that year.
Bringin' the stink since 2006.

QOTD:
No plans for tonight. Just kick'n it with the little woman and getting ready to put some chicken on the BBQ. She rented some movies, please let them not be chick flix, oy.
Tomorrow I'll be meeting the guys at the beach pretty early to recharge our batteries. Then get out of there before the masses start filtering in.
Then we're going to start working on some new material that I've been writing for the past few months. Everyone already has a copy and have been working on their parts, but this will be the first time playing them together. We'll be playing this list in Aug and Oct at some benefit shows. Mostly punk and hard alternative. They're sponsored by several local surf, skate and snow companies.

The end of a busy week
I'm a little disappointed in myself about AAW.
35 minutes of music in a week is tough
...for me anyway
Maybe the next time it comes around, I'll be faster
Oh well, life goes on.

Got back to Seattle, albeit temporarily (will be flying down there again in a few weeks to look at houses, and driving down a couple weeks after that, eek).

qotd: I'm enjoying the sound of the Seattle rain and I have no reason to change that. Except maybe to get the theme song to Greatest American Hero out of my head.

QotD: well, I got some basic tracks laid down for my collab with Wages on "So Weird," which (a) I'd said I'd have ready by last night, but (b) I really wasn't expecting to get done 'til Monday. Just cranked out a quick mix, need to make the .mp3 to send to him to start working on vocals... the cold sore from hell is starting to get better, but I'm still quite happy to let Wages handle the vocal chores this week...

I downloaded a whole mess o' Melvin from sf today and put it on my MP3 player, but haven't had a chance to do much listening yet. I don't think I've quite "gotten" Melvin yet, but obviously they've got something going on...

Umm, lessee, stayed busy most of the day, doing some yardstuff at my mom's, laundry at home, umm, whatever. We wound up watching "The Family Stone" this evening, which the Mrs. warned me was "a chick flick," but one that I would like since it has Claire Danes in it. We opened a bottle of Charles Shaw Shiraz about halfway through, and by the end, I actually thought it was a pretty good movie.

Didn't watch it, but I put a tape in tonight on the movie "Thumbsucker." The Mrs. is pretty sure it's not her kinda movie, but we found the soundtrack CD at the Dollar Store in Douglas last weekend (on our trip to Mexico) and now I'm curious about the movie itself.

Also, while I was gone, my shipment of a pair of MXL V63M mics came in (they were the musiciansfriend stupid deal of the day a couple weeks ago), and just now I compared them to my MXL 990s. The V63M definitely has a richer sound, and seems to pick up the details of my voice a lot better. They're also nice and compact, which makes them much more suitable for stage use. Also their pickup pattern is way tighter than the 990.

I think I like these for vocals and then will keep using my 990s for micing amps.
