In a final act of desperation I wrote three songs this morning, started work on the tracks by lunchtime, and phffloop! it's all to much now, think I'll go and dig the garden again... sorry!

HaHa, you have to make "Sunglasses and a Smile" into a music vid. "Dirty Secret" is nice and tranquilized just the way I like it. "So weird" is ripping. "I Love you" is funny, like a Russian trying to sing in English.
All going in my ipod. I need to give them all a deeper listen.

I tried to fill my 30 minutes, that I was lacking, with funny puny stuff, but after I sobered up, it was just awful. 8)

Just a quick note... I got mine "finished" (as finished as any solo Wages project). It's around 34 minutes (I actually shortened it because I needed to trim a little nastiness from a couple of tracks), but I did most of this (writing and recording) in the last 28 hours and I just have to get away from it now! It is uploading to my site right now. I will post the album with "liner notes" either later tonight or tomorrow morning.

I'm losing my mind! If I can record all my vocal tracks in the next few hours, I'm set. After recording 14ish drum tracks in a few hours, I still have hope. I wish I hadn't been so lazy early in the week.

I'm sorry everyone - I've got all the music, all the melodies, but I simply won't have time to do all the vocals. I'll try and get what I've got finished up. In my mind, I won the challenge anyway - at least more so than last year. I won't be able to finish it soon though, since I'm heading off to camp next week. I hope I can get some of the finished tunes up.

Liner Notes

Most of the "normal" songs on "Album, Uh, WEAK!" were actually written during the week, but BEFORE I knew there was a competition! I found the competition Saturday afternoon and given that I already had about 15 minutes of music created this week, I immediately began working to fluff it out into this entry, so the majority of the work done on this happened over the course of 10 or 12 hours.

This album represents some experimentation for me including my first foray into industrial music (with "Take It All From Me"), some serious experimenting with madess (in "Please Don't Leave Me"), playing with a men's chorus of one (on "Holdin'", which is also a two chord only twist), some "acoustic metal" (on "They're All Liars"), something more along my roots (on "It's Been Real, It's Been Fun", which I think closes the album perfectly), and hell, I even made an "instrumental" (on "Whistlin' Spaghetti Jam")! But you will also find standard Wages material such as "My Sweet Girl", "Never Really Know the Heart of the One You Love", and "Dark Cloud".

Plus, I addressed three twists: imitation, chords stealin', two-chords only. I probably also revealed something about myself, but I'll leave that to your imagination.

All-in-all, this was a great experience, and I had a lot of fun experimenting. I look forward to hearing comments about any of the tracks, but especially the ones where I step out of my comfort zone.

That’s a pretty good album, ray. it's a shame couldn’t make it 35 minutes long.
Am flattered by the AWHAM song, cuz that’s really me, a hero saving the day. : )
my favorites are Dirty secret and the Borat inspired I love you.
and a music video for Sun glasses and a smile... most definitely.

Dylan With a Twist- yes, you do sound like Dylan.. even the Lyrics are dylanesque. Being a huge Dylan fan myself i dig this. Can’t say the same for Nirvana though.

The neuroscientist author explains that the brain will keep running parallel simulation of a particular situation till it reaches an agreeable logical answer.
Most likely you don’t have all the information to complete a working model of the situation.
That always sucks!

Hey! Was this the guy that was on "This American Life"... or well really "Radio Lab" recently? If so, his theory sounds like it would make for a really good read.

The author is DR. Read Montague.
Mostly compares the inner workings of a computer processor to the human brain, or biological machines.

Wow! Thanks for the great comments! My wife just now heard "Holdin'" and she was just like

and I was like 8), even though the high notes were like

! I was really trying to push my small, enclosed, frail envelope, and I think the tune really did it. And with two chords! Okay, from now on, all Wages songs are two chords, three at the very most!

Wow! Deep! So my answer is that the missing information I need to complete my working model is to "furgit about it".

I like to pick out tiny bits of a subject's personality or experience (usually my own) and amplify it into a song. This is a lot easier to do when I just write as opposed to using the pre-defined song title as provided by SF. But, um, yeah.

As always, absolutely tremendous.
I'm intrigued by your "Best Birthday Song" because it keeps sounding like something really tragic happened when your sister fell, but it's called best Birthday and you were happy and smiling. Then you say you should have had amnesia that day too, as if it's something you wish you could forget. But I like the clever writing with lines like, "the picture of your big brother, he looks just like a little kid", because your are remembering the picture now as an adult as you are writing. Awesome!
