Ok, well, I think I've mentioned before that I am NOT a Tori Amos fan*, but I'm most certainly a Heather Redmond fan.

Perhaps after I'm "done" (assuming "done" actually happens) with this summer dance hit madness we'll cook something up! (Assuming Heather will have me, of course.)

*To be fair, I've never really given her a chance...the first thing I ever heard of hers was her cover of "Smells Like Teen Spirit," and for some reason that cover really rubbed me the wrong way.[/b]

Maybe I'll upload Little Earthquakes for you. It really is an excellent album.

I think this is an excellent idea... Ms. M has a beautiful voice, I'm not sure how it will mix with my not so beautiful voice, but stranger things have happened! Of course, I'm sure it would have to include innuendo right? If not for any other reason than to manipulate the predominantly male SF community!

EDIT: I couldn't seem to get the zip to compress these files any more so the zip is still huge. I did not originally encode these so...

hey hoblit, check out winrar, which does a better job of compressing binary data than zip. however, less people have the ability to decompress rar, so there's a tradeoff.

And if those files are already compressed (mp3, flac, aac, etc.) there's nothing you can do to compress them any better anyway.

yeah, I tried that actually...and got same result. The only setting that worked would not be compatible for the layman. I had come to Fluffy's conclusion and then apologized for the original mp3s because I didn't encode them..and I'm not about to go re-encode them ...too much work for what was supposed to be a simple upload.

Anyways, they'll be there for about 17 more hours (maybe a few more than that depending on what time I can get to deleting them tomorrow)

73MB is actually a bit tiny for an album, if it's encoded decently. If anything you should apologize for how small they are. For shame.

(Also why the hell are we trading mp3s? Is this a warez board now?)

Hey! Just to follow up to this old post...

So Hoblit, you're a sweethaht to post this album -- I did give it a listen, and actually, I DO remember hearing that "Happy Phantom" song and thinking that it had some appeal.

But I guess the thing is that there are many other gals roughly in what I consider to be Tori's genre that I vastly prefer to Ms. Amos. I dunno exactly what it is... (or, I don't know how to summarize concisely)...but she just ain't my cup o' tea.

Here are some Amos alternates that I'd suggest: (New! Improved! Still Female! Still Rockin!)

Veda Hille: She has made a concept album about the painter Emily Carr, and another about natural history... she's wicked smaht and a great songwriter.

Kristen Hirsch: She's insane, but insane in that way that makes for really compelling art.

Nina Nastasia: One of my absolute faves.

Amanda Palmer: (The Dresden Dolls) (Although she'd hate being mentioned in the same post as Tori Amos) -- she may be the reincarnation of Lotte Lenya -- plus her boyfriend is hot and a good drummer.

I'm too chicken to post albums for your downloading pleasure...but all those gals are more my cup o' tea. There's no accounting for taste, right?

I know there are a few Dresden Dolls fans sprinkled around the forum (like me and erik).

I can't share your love of Kristen Hirsh though. I loved Throwing Muses. Then I bought Limbo and it sits like a tumor in my record collection.

You might try "Strange Angels" or "Sunny Border Blue" if you're feeling like giving her another go.

I also hear her newest is quite good, despite the terrible name. (How to Sing Like a Star)

Try "Home" if you're a one-song purchase kinda guy.

It seems I can never spell her name correctly.

I THINK I have a Nina Nastasia album in my collection. I'm just not sure about the last name and I don't have time to look it at this very moment. Is she the one that sings 'Thats all there is?' (I'll confirm later)

Yes, that's her! Her album "the blackened air" is great (and not as goths as it sounds.)

Not quite the Amos genre, but I love many of Jane Siberry's albums. Her earlier ones are really fun and fresh (saw her live a few times and loved that) with fabulous sonics coming from her band, especially "The Speckless Sky". Her "When I was a Boy" features "Calling All Angels" from "Music for the end of the world". It was produced by Brian Eno and that's the apex of her output in my opinion, though I haven't heard her latest (lost patience, I guess).
