Konichiwa Songfighters!

Today has been a lazy day so far. The biggest part of my day is my decision not to go see Korn (concerts are very social for me and I'd hate to go see Korn alone. Who would I heckle them with?) and my lunch with I.H. where we sat around discussing what we think of Scott Baio's new show. She supports his struggle to find himself. I wanna see a disaster.

Other than that, I have been stressing out about my Septemberian project. I haven't found an artist for the project yet and I feel like art would be helpful to make Septemberian stand out from other bits of web fiction. But I can't draw, can't afford to do it all in painted toys and photography, and I can't find an artist who will work for free. So I may just have to release the story on its lonesome and see how it goes. Still looking for music though. Maybe I should write up some lyrics and then implore some bands.

QotD:
Do you enjoy theater and if so, what has been the best play or musical that you have seen?

I like theater and I had the privilege to work in theater for several years coming out of high school/ starting college. Seeing as I have personal attachments to it, my favorite theater production would be Classic Stage Company's "Iphigenia and Other Daughters". It was a re-working of the Oresteia. It starred a great cast: Susan Heimbinder as Iphigenia, Kathleen Chalfant as Clytemnestra, Sheila Tousey as Electra, Deborah Hedwall as Chrysothemis, and Seth Gilliam as Orestes. It was extremely welldone and I loved getting the chance to watch the play evolve from concept to show.

My CDs are in a FedEx truck somewhere between Los Angeles and New Hampshire. They might be here tomorrow. :D

My instrumental alter ego (Citizen Six) is meeting some nice folks tomorrow night to talk about music for some upcoming TV pieces. They're willing to drive up to Plymouth to talk about it, so we're meeting at The Lucky Dog, which happens to be having its weekly Open Mic night. Fun and fun.

QotD: Man, I just hate musicals. Had to get that out of the way. With a couple exceptions*, I can't stand 'em. But I've been in several plays (musical and otherwise), and seen a few. The one I probably enjoyed most was Shear Madness at the Charles Playhouse in Boston. The idea that you could converse with the characters between acts really impressed me.

*West Side Story had some great music.

HUGE Musical Fan here. I have about 10 different musicals on CD that make it into my regular rotation. My favorite right now HAS to be Les Mis. Little Shop of Horrors makes a good second.

QOTD:
My Nephew Bryan is an aspiring actor, so pretty much his plays are the only ones I ever see. Here he is playing Jimmy Stewart. *F bomb warning* He has much better clips than this, but this is the only one I could get to work. He's actually a really good writer/director/producer as well. When we have big family get togethers, he writes a script and gives everyone a part to play, then after recording, he edits it. By the end of the day when everyone is chillaxing, he comes out and pops it a the finished movie. It's very entertaining watching a bunch of terrible acting edited to be good. The last one was a mafia comedy skit.

My favorite play would be my son playing the part of Rumpelstiltskin in Rumpelstiltskin. He was in 4th grade and yep, that's right, the star of the show.

man its been busy here lately. (rainy too)

qotd: Unlike JT, I love musicals. I don't get out to the THEATRE much...but I have seen Phantom of the Opera and RENT. LOVE BOTH... but I love musicals, as in movies too... Sound of Music, Mary Poppins... plenty of others and of course my favorite is The Nightmare Before Christmas.

If you have a minute to spare, you can get a good laugh at this band I recorded on Saturday. Intro for a song called Only Bones Remain. (Later I'll mention that I play bass with them and you can laugh even more)

QOTD: I hate most plays I've seen, except for musicals. I even hate movies based on plays. The acting seems so melodramatic that I can't get into it. Whenever I watch a play, I never forget that I'm watching a play.

I love good musicals, though. I got to see alot of musicals when I lived in New York, and I think my favorite was probably Bat Boy.

I am in the chorus of a production of Gilbert & Sullivan's HMS Pinafore that will be playing in Brisbane (and touring to Caloundra and Maryborough) in October. I get to wear a sailor suit! I want to sneak on stage for at least one show wearing no trousers and singing in a Donald Duck voice.

QotD: I haven't seen a whole lot of live theatre, but the one I was probably most blown away by was a local production of "Noises Off." I had no idea what it was about (before going to see it), and the local theatre group that was doing it had just the right sense of timing to pull off the comedy... the movie they made a few years later with Alan Alda et. al. was awful, but I do remember being very impressed seeing it live. I also remember seeing a production of The Pirates of Penzance with James Belushi (back when John was still alive and nobody knew who Jim was) that I enjoyed; we had front-row center seats, so it was kinda more like watching the actors work than watching a big spectacle.

Today has been a running-around day, and I've got one more trip out to make - drop off some old computer stuff to be recycled way across town, pick up a few groceries on the way home. Dogs have been ignored rather badly all day, but I've spent the past few days not getting any errands done because I felt bad about leaving the dogs, so today I just decided... gotta get some stuff done.

Yay new titles, even if I don't have any idea yet what to do with "Anomaly." I think my first inspiration "she dragged me to this French movie... about this girl named..." has already been shot down (in any case, I did the mispronounced name thing already for Toronto Star, and I don't think this would top that). I imagine Wages has a Gawking Urethras song all written already, but I'd like to do something myself...

As far as actual accomplishments... I've had a long running in-progress project to record guy & guitar demos of all 60+ songs in our worship band repertoire in singable keys, and prepare chord charts for those Sundays when I show up and have to stand in for the regular leader, and I'm getting down to the final chord checks and printouts and stuffing of printouts into sheet protectors phase of that project.

Back in 1995 I went to NYC and saw a production of Tom Stoppard's "Arcadia" - I think that was the best play (that's the guy that wrote Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead which I would love to see live someday). On the topic of Tom Stoppard, my adult stage debut was as a dead guy in his play "The Real Inspector Hound." Yes, it was my job to lie on the floor and pretend I was dead. What fun!

I am not much into musicals, but I really enjoyed this Mamma Mia a few weeks ago; I mentioned that on the boards.

Today I went into the city and wandered around. They put up the train prices though so it's so much money to go :( I may be working at a radio station soon though! Exciting!

QOTD: I love musicals. I've been in a lot(Sweeney Todd being my favorite). My school offers a "Broadway Musical Theater" class which takes annual trips to NYC to see a show for a ridiculously low price(usually $50 for two shows with super good seats, a meet and greet with the casts, a workshop, transportation, and dinner). The best play/musical I've seen is probably 'Avenue Q'. I was in the second row, on the aisle, and it was great being that close to the stage with the original cast and an audience that really got into it. So yes, I enjoy theater.

Musicals are hideous and make me want to stick pins in my eyes. The best play I saw was the original west end version of Closer, miles better than the film they did. So yes, theatre is good (note correct spelling!).

QOTD: I can enjoy theatre, but the play has to be good - I went to one with school once, and everyone was napping by the end - it was terrible. However, there are a few that I wouldn't mind seeing, and it is definitely a good experience to go see a musical.

I changed erik's answer a bit to suit me. It's because I'm lazy. Now I want to add that I hate musicals.
