I know, right? I was just coming to the board to say the EXACT SAME THING.

So for the record Andre, I completely love your "So Weird". Your singing works with the lyrics, which are poignant and fine, 'cause it really feels like you've been there man, and the instrumentation is really pretty. Off-key singing is usually the BANE OF MY EXISTENCE, but in this song it totally works! It's like you're singing from inside the song.

"And I, for once, want to make this clear; that I also go crazy when life gets so weird."

It's so relatable! I'd support this one for beautiful indie ballad of the year. I'd give you a trophy if I could.

Good work, son!

I agree, Andre Was Here at Midnight was my pick this week also. I forgot to vote, not that it matters.

Akterdekk - Nice effort, would be cool with drums
Andre Was Here At Midnight - Great. My pick
Atonal Melodies - Good. Bouncy
Billy's Little Trip - Good lyrics
The Blumpkinator - OK.
Caravan Ray - Good. Picks me up
Charcoal - OK. Cool guitar
Embers of Autumn - OK
Flvxxvm Florvm - Good. Great guitar.
Frisbee Nemoy - Good. Cool lyrics
Gawking Urethras - Good. Nice to see Phil controlling the vox more, but at the same time I wanted to hear you break out.
Gurdonark - Nice effort
Holly and the Sleestaks - OK. A bit tinny
Joe Holiday - OK. Cool experimental
Melvin - Good.
Minty Handy - Good. I would SO love to hear this as a ball buster rocker, but with the intro just as you did it.
Monte Carlo - OK
The Special Relatives - OK. I like the folksy lyrics
State Shirt - Good. Floats me
There's Something Wrong With the G-Diffuser - OK. Interesting experimental. The peek a chew voice is cute. The mind is a wonderful thing to waste
The Weakest Suit - OK.
WreckdoM - OK. Creative and fun as usual

I'll jump on the Dre bandwagon too and also second that. Great song and great guitar sound. Vocals......hmmm..not working for me. I could really hear someone like Thanks For the Frisbee singing this - that would work for me.

...I will try to finish full reviews later today

Akterdekk

Well i appreciate all of your honest opinions. But the one thing u fail 2 realize is u may think were horible and what not but this is black metal. You guys are entitled 2 your musical tastes like melivin and what not. Thats not us or our musical taste. Akterdekk is a black metal band and we aims 2 keep it that way. Now granted it took all of 5 mins to create this song and it was just for fun cause we were board. Under it we r a really seriouse band. Now like I said i appreciate the opinions and many of them we will take to heart. Cause i will be the first to admit we need work. But to say this was terible and horrid who r u to say things like that when its just not your cup of tea.

Thanks, am flatter by the response.
Funny how you never know what people are going to like. I didn’t think it was much of a song, I was just saying what was on my mind that week.
If you ever read any of my reviews for Frisbee's songs, you'll know how much i envy his voice.

Post fight reviews:

Akterdekk : an Attempt to a metal song, without the metal. weak sounding guitar. needed bass & drums. Keep submitting stuff keep improving.

Atonal Melodies : nice and bouncy. cool bass line. great tune overall. my only problem with it is the melody carrying piano. bring it down, or just take the piano out all together. record the vocals along with the piano melody, and then take the piano off the mix.

Billy's Little Trip: i love how ragged this song is. Ragged but yet not distorted, if that makes sense. Very moody semi-drunk vocals do the trick. Can’t get into the chorus thought, and a bit long.

The Blumpkinator:the lyrics sound interesting but they are hard to make out. the "AAAAHHH AHHHHH" sounds really good. Constant beat gets boring, after a while.

Caravan Ray : 80's punk meets surf. dono why, but i really like the drums on this song. Surf music not much my taste, could be the constant guitar sliding up and down (it must be fun to play tho). You should try to get one of your buddies to chant (sing) background vocals for you, if your trying to mimic the 80s punk bands.. 2 distinct vocals would add more dynamics to this type of song.

Charcoal : Super Intellectual Progressive Rock. Always been a fan of your complex guitar playing, and quirky lyrics.
You probably could jam pretty well with the guys from Zipline. Not much of a vocalist tho. Good instrumental song, with lyrics stuffed into its pockets.

Embers of Autumn : i like idea and mood of the song. it deserves a better performance. it takes to long time to get to the full band version of it. cant say i have ever heard a song with the drums pan to the right like this one before. the delay attack on the drums sound awful. Like the acoustic version of it, much better.

Flvxxvm Florvm :60's ballad with FUzzzzz? good 2guitar+bass combination. This is a great song to drink too. Your voice is actually very good, when not trying to purposely screaming insanely out of the top of your head. ahhhha this song is actually hilarious with its ending. Play this live next week.

Frisbee Nemoy : lovely tune, great vox like always. Very minimalistic, but your sense for rhythmic singing is awesome.

Gawking Urretras: King A, produced a great sounding 80s song here. Love the "HEY!", you guys had my vote for sure, but fight was over before i could do so. Keep singing wages.

Gurdonark :mmmmmmmmmmmmm. not sure. too experimental.

Holly + the slees.. : had me going with the intro, then the singing came into play. Liked the slacked guitar playing.

The Sub-Atmoic Particles : ??? odd 60s spy music, with the weird things you do...mmm i don’t get it.

Melvin : enjoyed the song. Good lyrics. Didn’t like the assuring "YES" in the background. If they were left out, it would have been up to the listener to determine if your action were weird or not. Holly cow, how can you hold that "AAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" for so long, you have some lungs man.

Minty Handy : you remind me of hall and oats... not sure why. is like 80s uku pop/rock. fun little ditty. I can imagine a full band produced version of it, keeping that 80s vibe getting some air play.(ok, maybe in 80s, but still good song)

Monte Carlo: could not get into this.. too random and odd.

The Special Relatives : good songs, with good lyrics. folky/rock reminded me a bit of some bright eyes stuff. Wish the vocals were more crisp and clear

State Shirt : i find this to be below par your usual stuff. Even your vocals don’t sound as good as they usually do. like the ambient chilling factor of the music tho. very good slowwww build up.

There's Something Wrong With the G-Diffuser : random noise. Very weird.

The Weakest Suit : engaging multi-instrumental intro. not sure why panning the bass to the right ? center the bass and bring it up in the mix? overall the song is good, it has a cool indi rock vibe to it.

WreckdoM : MC WreckdoM. groovy beats, music and samples.. tooo much rapping. You’re drowning down the groove of the song with too much rapping.

Ehhh, I produced that song , and by production I do mean plugging a mic and guitar into an overdrive pedal randomly found in the basement we were working at, and getting really smashed , and plugging them into my computer.

I believe we all know the true winners here are State Shirt. However , I will say that there are actually true vocals behind that song. Ironically, the song is about a transvestite....

On a personal review of our song ... Akterdekk really lived up to its German Translation... Shit.

This made me have to check this tune out. Cartoonmonkey came out whilst it was playing on my speakers and said, "Oh my god. What, is he trying to sound like a Dalek?"

I actually think you ought to pursue this angle. That would be very, how you say, nerdcore.

Now perhaps I'll listen to the rest of this fight.

Never reply to reviews. Just don't do it.

I know you want to show those ugly souls who just didn't get it that you are an artist, that your song was influenced by circumstance, that some people actually dig this kind of thing, etc. But your reply won't accomplish that. It will only make you look like a defensive boob.

Don't do it. Gracefully thank the universe for your win and go on to produce more...wait, which song was yours?

Oh for crying out loud. That sucked ass. I hope your mom didn't hurt her fingers from voting so many times.

thanks to everyone who wrote reviews.
i havent written reviews in a while and i appologize, time constraints limiting computer usages and such and such.
aaaaaaaanyway... congrats to aktertaknak'n'stak for the friend flood.
i was getting tired of people winning on merit and song writing skills.
the effect on your voice seemed to simulate screeming, which would suit your black metal...next time scream till you lose your voice for real maybe then you would getcher respect.
Thanks for the frisbee is on Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music ect.

Thank you both. The main reason for submitting the song (which I really don't consider finished, but I submitted it anyway) was to see how well the chord progression would go over, since I'm sure it actually *is* a Stones song, but I can't remember which one. I was hoping the reviews would remind me.

It's not the black metal genre, so much as the "made in 5 minutes" thing, that people are hating. At least I don't think. I'm not an expert on black metal by any means (give me traditional heavy metal, or no metal at all), but even just from the little I know about it I know it is not a genre that is defined by sloppy, jokey recordings that took no effort to produce and motivated by boredom.

ASIDE: Good lord, I can't believe I'm saying this, considering how many times I've been accused of submitting half-baked, one-take songs myself. Pot calling the metal black, or something..

Didn't we come up with some kind of rule, or like "Song Fight Item" number for the whole "Maybe you just don't like my style but anyway I made it in 5 minutes so what do you expect but really I'm a serious artist" spiel? I mean, it's so classic. *printing it out* *framing it* *pointing at it when people come visit*

One thing you fail to realize is your attempt at a song was not only horrible but was not what you claim it to be. Overly distorted vocals ranging from pure fuzz to Cookie Monster is NOT Black Metal!!! That is called DEATH Metal. If you want to be Black Metal you need Satanism. I heard some swearing, but really no Satanic themes in your entry. Besides that the vocal approach should be more high pitched Rob Halford / King Diamond Banshee like. Your slow tempo dinosaur feet beat is classic Death metal. However usually as a rule all Metal players in any ilk are tight and precise and virtuosos of their scales. Your entry was drek.

I drink many cups of tea, I have my metal roots, and I enjoy any genre done well, I don't mind the entry being in the fight as much as the friend flood or bot flood or however you got your precious win. If it was through Satan then I'll give you props for being Black Metal.

Oh my god! Prince is submitting songs to the site! *fawns*

Meanwhile, I'm glad I don't care if I don't get any votes -- because my song garnered me some of the most positive feedback I've received to date, but also the lowest number of votes possible without going negative.

(and yeah, I don't vote for myself these days, not with a crowd like this group of awesome songs.)
