Guitar Hero II

The trick to Guitar Hero, you can't ease into a difficulty. You just play it until you develop the chops in the field. You suck a lot at first, but it makes the epic expert journey later so much easier.

Yeah, GHII is the shit. Fuck Jordan, though. And Six.

btw, for those of you who don't know:

http://www.scorehero.com

Learn tricks, enter your scores, compare yourself (unfavorably) to other players, enjoy.

Also I went back and played through the first, having never played it, and just tore through Expert mode, sightreading and 5-starring everything as I went. Not nearly as enjoyable; the tracklist is much, much worse (Sum 41? Incubus?), the hammer-on/pull-off system was annoying, and the cover band wasn't nearly as good at covering the source material than in the second game. For those who are like me and played the second before the first, I found the first to be only worth a rental or borrow.

If there's one thing I've learned over the years, it's that the internet is ALWAYS much better at video games than I am.

Am I the only one that thinks there should be a Guitar Hero tournament at Songfight! Live! this year?
Am I rockin' hard, or hardly rockin'?

Dang, that will make me feel even more disappointed that I probably won't make it to SF! Live this year. :(

On the other hand, I'm thinking of trying to start a Guitar Hero II cover band, as in, a cover band whose repertoire consists of the songs used in the game.

So I'm entertaining the kids with people on YouTube playing the Super Mario theme when I see that someone is playing it in Guitar Hero 2. That's when I learn there is a burgeoning community of people hacking GH2 and putting in different songs. Everything from Queen's "Innuendo" to Flight of the Bumblebee to the music from Contra is being placed in GH2. So my question is....why aren't Sonfighters doing this and putting Songfight songs into GH2???

I've progressed to Expert level, but I'm hitting the wall about 1/3rd the way through. Have you all finished it on Expert? On the 360? I think the 360 may be harder than the PS2 version. It at least has more songs (48).

I'm almost through Expert level, but I haven't touched the game in a while unfortunately.

I beat the expert level on PS2 a while back. The last song kicked my ass for a long time, but I got through it with time.

Using star power at the proper time is key, as you probably know. I am trying to go back and get 5 stars on the earlier levels before working my way up to the tougher levels.

Of course, having a Wii has definitely cut into my Guitar Hero time recently.

ROCK!

Guitar Hero II is more addictive than the Wii in my opinion. I like the fact that you can also make custom songs. This game kicks ass.

I rock the Guitar Hero. I have the Log. For those of you who do not know, the Log is the guitar you get when you beat every non-bonus song on Expert with a 5-star score.

And for the record, I still have never beat Jordan on Expert, but I'm close.

[UPDATE: May 29 2007] I DID IT! I beat Jordan on Expert, 4 stars!
I am definitely too square for how experimental this is, but I can imagine that if I was in the right state of mind, the section starting at 2:20 might transport me to another dimension - jeffhenderson

Is it wrong to be excited about Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80's? The already announced line-up is crazy. It's got some Police, Poison, Skid Row and Quiet Riot. And best of all, characters will really really bad fashion.

Hm, I'm 50/50 on this one. Half great cheesy stuff, half awful cheesy stuff. Probably still all fun, though.

Status report: I've conquered Hard (gotten 5 stars on all the regular songs and unlocked the Eyeball, that is) and beat Expert, but can't 5 star everything on Expert yet. A co-worker bought all the downloadable songs. Most of them are too easy, though the solos in "Bark at the Moon" are pretty tough. "Frankenstein" is fun.

I picked up a copy of this today, but it's for Andy's birthday, so I won't have a review for you until after the weekend. In fact, I had to wrap it up this morning because all I could do was look at it.

EDIT: Jeez, he's turning 7. Pretty soon it won't be safe to talk about his birthday presents on the web, 'cause he'll find out about 'em. Heh.

I still can't five star the last <strike>four</strike> three songs (I five starred "Institutionalized" this afternoon), and I haven't even four starred "Free Bird" yet. Any tips, anybody? These last <strike>four</strike> three songs are killing me.

Also I can't beat "Jordan" on Expert, but I don't think I'm even going to bother seriously trying to do that.

I'm awesome at 'Freebird', but I suck at the last half dozen or so songs. Only 3 or 4 stars.
