September 1

Post by roymond »

Hard to believe it's September! I'm at the farm in VT with my boys so my wife can work at home this weekend. It's the first time we've been here alone. My siblings and I have 90 acres at the end of a dirt road. We're fishing in the pond and it's about the most beautiful day imaginable. Life is good.

QotD: my familt bought this place in 1965 and it's been my get-away home all my life. My dad was a teacher so we spent summers here. do you have a regular get-away place? Either a family place or just a favorite spot

No place. I have my studio room, over-packed with stuff, but not a seperate house or anything. Vermont is a place that where I could live though. And that's not some kind if weird hint, Roymond!

I jammed with the guys today and we recorded both live audio and video, but were just not quite nailing it this time. We're trying to get some good versions of songs we do down, and then move on. If we ever get it right I'll put up a link for those who like to be punished. :)

My parents' house is a good getaway. It's not far, but it's clean, and there's always food in the pantry.

I decided to get serious about learning the drums, and I bought this electronic kit. It is hell of fun.

That's a really nice kit Jefff. I miss my e-drums. I have my acoustic kit, but in a full house, playing times are limited. I'm looking into a new electric kit.

QOTD:
I have a cabin in the mountains, in Big Bear CA, for snowboarding season. It's cool all year there, but I don't get up there much in the summer. My family members do though.

Been a while since I've posted on DRC, since I haven't had anything to really post about. My job continues, my social life is a complete non-starter right now (come on, where are all the damn bay area SFers?). Maybe I should actually do some of those things people suggested I do when I visit SF or something. I need to do more with my spare time than just browse the Internet. I don't like doing things on my own though.

qotd: My get-away place is into the deep recesses of my mind. I'm not big on traveling, really.

Fluff, you should volunteer at the local animal shelter. Great way to meet hot animal babes. Plus, you said you want to get a cat.

A quiet day at the ol' Roll Call... everybody's off doing the vacation thing this weekend?

Most of my day wound up being taken up by me and the Mrs. taking my mom out clothes and shoe shopping... my brother is getting married in the Bay Area in November, and getting my mom there is going to be quite a project.

Other than that, I tried out a few more donated computers to figure out if anything is useable... there are a couple of XP machines that can probably be cleaned up, although at some point I think I'm going to take one of these boxes and put Fedora (free Linux) and Open Office and a few other things on there and see if that might be a better choice than Windows 98. I haven't looked yet, but... anybody know of any good Linux programs for Spanish speaking users who are learning English?

Watched "Akeelah and the Bee" on cable this evening... I'm at a point in life where I think I need to watch as many of these "I can overcome all adversity" movies as I can find. Actually, about a week after I got laid off, I remember thinking "I oughta watch 'City Slickers,' about getting one's smile back..." It took me about three years to catch it on cable and tape it and it's been several months and I still haven't sat down and watched it yet...

Our current foster dog, Tanner, is going to be in the local free paper next Wednesday. Gotta stir up some interest and get him adopted!

I just made the mistake of doing a Google image search on "hot animal babes" with SafeSearch turned off.

I was expecting lots of pictures of furries.

I did not get pictures of furries.

It was Fathers Day here, so myself and my no good slacker brother cooked Mr Boy a healthy breakfast of bacon and eggs on the bbq.

Then Legs and I went and saw her grandfather in the hospital. He had a heart attack a few days back, and is supposed to go in for minor surgery. That was actually supposed to happen yesterday, but some brain-dead nurse put a needle into old pop and didn't clean the area of insertion. The old mans hand has blown up like a balloon. It like a giant, squishy, flesh boxing glove.

I honestly thought searching for hot animal babes would bring up more Eric Schwartz stuff.

QOTD: I have nowhere to escape to, save for the vast empty reaches inside my head, where I wander about pantless and converse with girls who like to kiss each other.

Oh, you mean the Gold Coast? It's a little too close to home for me to call a holiday destination, but we go there occaisonally too.

Not really. The only real "regular" vacation spot we've gone to has been Seattle (3 times), though I think Amsterdam will replace it. Main thing is we're more interested in seeing new things than repeating the same visit. I hope to visit a haunted hotel in Eureka Springs Arkansas some day. That would be flippin' sweet!

Today...Worked on two songs for Tuneflow. One is written guy'n'guitar humorous Arlo Guthrie style about KY Jelly (called "10 Gallons of Love"). The other is gunna be hard to pull off properly as it needs to rock: not too little or too much, but just right (vaguely interesting side note: I wrote it with the intention of rapping, but something interesting developed musically so it will be rock instead). I also wrote lyrics for a third song, but those lyrics will need modification to flow.

I am essentially looking at writing 4 to 8 songs (for SongFight, Tuneflow, and maybe SUK) over the next 2 weeks before I'm off to Amsterdam. Anyone interested in throwing some quick music together with me (ANY style if I'm just singing and writing lyrics), please PM me. I would be interested in taking your music, and writing the lyrics and melody to go with, or in any other collaboratory capacity. :)

I'm not a traitor, I'm an emissary. ;) I could write a new song just about every day (I wrote two yesterday), so the other sites just give me additional avenues to do so.

What I'm really doing is trying to get good at getting good recordings in fewer and fewer takes so that maybe one day I can lay down an entire song in a couple of hours and just make finishing touches over the course of the following days. This would work great for me given that I'm a songwriting junkie.

Oooo, that gives me an idea for a QoTD...
