Unfortunately, what I tend to do in times like those is to crumble... which is what I've been going through the last few days, so you have my sympathy even if I can't be much help. My two years with the psychologist, I supposely learned how to "feel better about myself," but it's been pretty clear that that hasn't helped with what I think are the big problems (I don't seem to be able to do anything right anymore, and anything related to job hunting, or money in any way, sends me right through the roof stress-wise).
My day so far: way more solitaire and freecell than I should have played; getting caught up on the bills (at least one of which was overdue, despite there being plenty of money in the checking account), trying to drop off a form at my wife's doctor's office, only to arrive just as they were turning out the lights and going out to lunch, taking the dogs to my mom's house for the afternoon and seeing a fender-bender on the way - which wasn't a big accident, and I wasn't even involved, but it does bother me that I can't remember whether we were actually stopped at the intersection or slowing down approaching it as the light turned green, but I definitely remember thinking, "no, idiot" (or something stronger) at the white sedan that made a left turn in front of us without benefit of an arrow... we get to my mom's house and the foster dog wets on her carpet and I get a call from the home care lady, who has taken my mom to a movie over at the senior center, and who is upset about how much trouble my mom had getting dressed to go to the movie... I did manage to get Fedora 7 installed on a computer at home, and remembered that "init 5" are the magic words to get the GUI going, but I'm still looking forward to finding drivers for sound, video, LAN and modem cards that are tough to find even for windows...
Sorry, everybody, I just had to dump... yesterday was equally bad in its own way, and I'm just wearing down...
Uhh, chimichangas. Macayo's (where my mom's pool class goes after class on Tuesdays, for the 30% senior discount) has an appetizer plate of eight mini-chimis, four beef and four chicken, with quackamolay and sour cream, and... if the QotD is fried food or favorite source of protein, that'd be the answer...

Mozzarela sticks - god I love those, especially with a decent Marinara.
Niv - no suggestions, but hang in there, I'm glad that you trust that things pass - based on others I've known who have felt simmilarly, that is key.
oh, wait! A suggestion. I know when I have been occasionally in a "funk" (not like you're having, but a different scale) having the right music on can really affect my state of mind - for me a bit like a friend that doesn't flake. For me the Beatles do this, I wonder what it would be for you.
You've brought us lots of good stuff - I hope you're out of this soon.

Today I learned way more about Windows' dynamic loader than I ever wanted to. Did you know that in Windows, you have to be explicit about whether a symbol is being imported or exported via a DLL? Crazy, I know! Not like on sane operating systems where you just have a pile of symbols which the linker is smart enough to figure out on its own. I don't think this operating system will ever catch on.
qotd: I can't think of anything exotic I've had fried (although fried ice cream is quite yummy! and I'm always partial to tempura and also batter-fried chicken and/or onions) but I did have (boiled) crab and sea cucumber dumplings when I was in Hong Kong 7 years ago. Those were really good.
Oh, and chimichangas. Par excellente.

First let me say that someday I will try to lure song fight people into writing a tribute album to bacon. Bacon is one of those things that brings great joy to me. Bacon Sandwiches, Bacon and Eggs, Quiche with Bacon when feeling froggy, Bacon Cheese Burgers and (God this is going to sound horrible).
DEEP FRIED BACON!
So here is the wonderful thing about deep fried bacon. It is cooked uniformly and comes out looking like what I can only describe as the fake bacon on (insert greasy spoon chain here) menu. It is perfect. The taste is awesome and oddly enough seems less greasy than pan fried bacon. It has been a number of years since I have rolled out the "corn baller" but when I do it's deep fried bacon all the way!
Warning...four out of five doctors agree deep fried bacon will kill you.

Not all of them - Sharwoods make microwavable ones. They are convenient for taking to work to eat with left over curry, but not real good for eating by themselvesanti-m wrote:Oh wow, I didn't know you could nuke 'em! You can spray other types with oil before microwaving them - but overall the end product is far inferior. There are a lot of Indian engineers in my office - they all seem to have diffent types of pappads they bring in and they use the microwave

Yeah, those Sharwood's are good. I try to keep them around for when I make Indian food. Microwave very nicely.
