Konichiwa Songfighters! Roll Call!
I have been busy lately with the kids' birthday (they turned 8 & 6 on 9/11) and with my computer dying (power supply burnt out). But still I'm on a high after finding out that I have a venue for a SF show on the East Coast.
Question of the Day:
How are your personal projects going?
- I have been struggling to get a band together
- Writing for my novel has been going pretty well. Almost 15 chapters in and going strong after a small stagger this week.
- 10kdays is about to hit its one year anniversary
- I'm preparing for the task of listening to the whole 2007 SF archive.
- I've stopped doing "The Other Night I've Dreamt of Knives" for the moment as I wanna devote some webspace/bandwidth to getting all the NUr Ein songs into one place
- Slowly preparing to do the GOM on my website since Eddiebangs has left the building.

QotD: Isn't this ironic? I was just working out my personal projects list and setting deadlines for when I want to complete them.
- Text-Adventure game that I'm about 80% done with, I've been working on off-and-on for the past 5 months or so. I'm really close to having all of the basics of the game finished, and from then, it's just characterization and the added finesse.
- Acoustic EP. I've got about 30 songs or so I've written over the past few years, and I wanna do some albums. The first one will just be an acoustic EP with 7 tracks--I've already got a good bit of track one done. If I really applied myself, I could have this thing finished before the end of the year.
- Piano-and-acoustic-guitar project. I'm a huge fan of Nobuo Uematsu and Yasunori Mitsuda, who wrote the music for the Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger/Cross series', respectively. I've been taking midis of the tracks and converting them to sheet music, with the idea of doing some soft covers with just piano and acoustic guitar. Got eight songs lined up, and I'm really looking forward to it.
- NaNoWriMo - November 2007. Got an idea for the project and everything. Just hope I can get it done this year.

QOTD: Hmmm. Ups and downs. Tonight promises to be the first band practice since the wedding (last week the singer was dead sick, and the lead guitarist flaked again). Things are going too slow, damnit. The personal goal is crank out a full version of "A Friendly Reminder" for tomorrow's deadline. Bass, drums, vox (I suspect we're going to be lacking a lead guitarist real soon now). It will not be polished, heh.
Recording a song for HOMBH was a blast. I'd forgotten how fun letting the freak flag fly could be. Was a good kick in the pants.
Other music projects, well, I'm still in if they'll have me. The past months (since the ignominious end of Nür Ein for me) have been a blur of courtship and bonding and melding with Mrs. Rabid. We're pushing each other to get down to work and make stuff, on top of mucho, mucho amore.
She's working on another article for Playgirl, her column, and her book. And I've got some other things on the near horizon (can you say saturday morning cartoons, kids?) which I want to get closer to, tout suite.
Okey, time to work on finding a better bass tone for tonight. Aloha!

Hi. It was a later night at the open mic, and I'm pretty shagged. Spent my lunch hour at the hospital; Shannon had an ultrasound, to try and figure out what this little 'growth' is that he's got near where his sternum meets his right collarbone. They think it's a harmless cyst of some kind. Should be no big deal, and it causes him no discomfort, so at least there's that.
Gonna finish up the work day, get some dinner, hang with the family, and maybe go out to the open mic at The Common Man in Ashland, if I've got anything left in the tank by then.
QotD: The most pressing 'project' is booking the rest of '07. I've got some work on the books through then end of 2008, but not enough yet. Still toying with the idea of doing a short 'tour' sometime, maybe next spring.

My personal project right now is called "house".
It's coming along. got my tool room ALMOST finished, got our bonus bedroom ALMOST finished... dry rot in the frame of the corner of the house still mocks me.
I have to complete all these things (and few others, replace a toliet, service the furnace, etc etc) before I can spend money on my dream project, which I dare not even talk about right now for fear of further jinxing it...cause that's how it rolls... all superstitious like...
I've barely played music this month at all. Twice. That's it. Just twice. A gig, and a band practice. That's it.
Strangely, I don't really mind right now, as I'm feeling like home things are getting straightened out... plus my ego isn't so wrapped up in having to do something of musical consequence each day... which I hope recharges and re-inspires me.

Slow Thursday - Jewish Holiday. This also accounts for a few of our employees not here today as well as the owners. Thank Jesus though, it's been busy lately. (and yes, I'm being facetious)
qotd: Well, I learned last week that Ghost Town Gridlock is now defunct. There was some talk of getting new members but now the drummer has joined another band. Project over. I think. Domain name dies soon, so I have to figure out what I"m going to do with the name. (I like the name Ghost Town Gridlock)
Project I'm currently involved in: The Funeral Dazies. I play bass and sing back up. (actually, we are doing one GTG song where I'm up front) I like the music but I don't like the campy gimmick. Hate it in fact.
Otherwise, I'm just struggling to get a few more life things sorted out and I should be back in the ring soon. Thats my project...thats my goal.

Well, like I said, I like the overall sound and would still like to revive it. ALSO, there will be two more songs recorded under that name... songs we did but were never recorded. That and the acoustic version of Brain Dead will also be recorded. AND THANKS for your support. I do appreciate that.HeuristicsInc wrote:Darn, Hoblit, I was just getting into your band.

We... heh... we need a bass player and a drummer at the very least. We would also like to try out a lead guitarist as well! ... for whatever thats worth.

- I am working on a lot of poems and stories. I'm excited about some of the stuff I've been writing lately. With careful editing and revision I think I can have some really awesome stuff.
-Mourning Breth is playing its first show soon. We haven't practiced yet though. Doesn't matter. We'll be drunk on PBR anyway. I just need to memorize all the words I wrote.
-In my creative non-fiction class I'm writing about Satan because I think Satan is hilarious. But I have to relate to myself or channel it through myself somehow. But I hate writing about myself. I can't do it without feeling extremely self-conscious. It makes me feel like an asshole. But I guess that's a good thing. By seeing my flaws on paper, I can improve them in real life. But I don't know about Satan.
I went to the dentist today. I have my first cavity.

"The Tooth Fodroy." That has a ring to it...
Took a big load of used-up computer stuff over to the recyclers today, to make room for more computer stuff on its way in. Got to hear my David Wilcox on the way over and back, too. "Rusty Old American Dream," what a song. I can, y'know, identify... "Break in the Cup" and "Block Dog" from "Big Horizon" always get to me...
QotD: I have so many projects that are stalled for one reason or another, mostly my own fault... I got in my whine of the week a few days ago, so I won't get started on that again... my Lou Reed cover song filled up KA "Lucky" (Tales from the Songfights, vol. 7) so now I want to go back and figure out a better song order than chronological and maybe remix one or two of the songs. I'll be recording some school band concerts next week, so I finally got around to mixing and polishing the recordings I did of last semester's concerts back in May...

How are my personal projects going? Thats a question I ask myself daily.
Oddly enough, to try and bring some order into my life, I too also made a list of all the projects I am currently a part of, and want to start. It goes for two pages. Shit!
Currently:
- Skavenblight Gazette: I work on this wargaming ezine. Trying to put issue 3 together, but for some reason its just not happening as easily as it has. In case you haven't guessed by now, I am a giant nerd.
- Illustrations: I promised some illustrations to some guy (you know who you are!). The intent has been there to work on them. The time hasn't. BUT, I will find out next week if I am going to have an over abundance of time (and hence, time to work of these!)
- Mr B & Mr C: I love this project so much. j$ and I have been attacking this on and off for over a year, and we have some really good songs. We have almost reached our target number of songs. So close!
- Paint my Bretonnian army. See the first link for examples on this nerdy passtime. Tiny men away!
- Sausage Boy: I have found a guy who wants to play guitar in a Sausage Boy band. Crazy, I know. I think he is fucked in the head. Now I just have to track down someone claiming to be a drummer. I also planned to work on some new songs some time.
- I did finally finish one project, getting all my Primes off of being stacked on my cabinets and onto shelves of some kind. All the Primes just fit, but I have to go pick up new one tomorrow. So they won't all fit anymore. Well, I managed to have the correct space for about a week at least.

QOTD: My personal projects are music related, so here we are.
I'm working on a new album - a lot darker than Bed 'n Breakfast ... not sure if I'll do diskfactory for this one, but I might.
I set up a lot of stuff on garageband and acidplanet, which I hadn't done for a very long time. Just something I had wanted to do for a while.
The rest of my life is mostly school right now. Not too bad ... college is kind of fun - philosophy class is pretty interesting.

It had to end sometime. I always thought you'd know you had a cavity from tooth pain or something. I don't have that. It was digital technology that found it. The x-ray at this place is insane. It's betwen molars. How would anyone find that? But yeah. It sucks. I hope getting a filling doesn't hurt. I heard there's drilling, which freaks me out.

I wasn't having any pain , but my orthopedic surgon insisted I visit every six months so he could wash my arm. Well Dogon it... last visit he said I had a broken wrist!! No pain but he said it's broken. funny my bones have been fine up to now - go figure.fodroy wrote:Yeah well...Paco Del Stinko wrote:Sorry about your tooth Fodroy. A good streak at an end.
Maybe - just maybe -I have been conned and violated

Yeah, I got my first one a couple of years ago. If I remember right when they give you the novocaine it doesn't exactly hurt per se, but it's very persistently uncomfortable.fodroy wrote:I hope getting a filling doesn't hurt. I heard there's drilling, which freaks me out.
