nady RSM-4 lollipop ribbon

Post by blue »

got one from GC for $80 via price match from musician's friend. hella skeptical, but it sounds really damn good. it's no world beater, but it has a nice, clear, natural sound. i'm always afraid ribbons are gonna be boxy and muffled, but there's none of that. it wants a _lot_ of freakin' gain. i want another one to try on drum overheads now.

Ribbon mics in Blumlein over the drums. That is the money.

after messing around with it some more.. god damn this thing is super-low output. i did take it apart (i can't help myself) and the ribbon is nice and tight, everything looks good. but with 50db of gain it's still barely audible.

here's my wee banjo..
