The Divine Comedy

I just heard "A Lady of a Certain Age" by The Divine Comedy on the radio and really loved the song. I checked him out on the Web and I'd heard his "To Die a Virgin" song somewhere (in a movie? on the radio?), too. I like some of his stuff a lot, some a little. It looks like he's been around a long time. Anybody else into his music?

Never heard of them. Not bad. The Die A Virgin song is bouncy.

I saw him open for Ben Folds in March 02 or 03. Really charming music. Check out "Perfect Lovesong," "Songs of Love," "Your Daddy's Car," "Tonight We Fly," "Sunrise"... Dude is talented, yeah. I bought a CD single just because he wrote a song about Idaho the day before the gig, and it appeared on there. In a weaker version, though. He said "that shithole Utah" live but changed it to "the state of" for the studio cut.

I bought "Victory for the Comic Muse", and frankly I'm not that into most of the songs yet. They're a lot more orchestral and ballad-y than the few tracks I'd heard. Maybe they'll grow on me. At least I got it using the remainder of an iTunes gift certificate somebody got me. (It's an "iTunes plus" album, so I didn't have any qualms about buying it on iTunes.)

Woah, totally missed this thread. You guys should really check out the back catalogue, the mid 90's stuff is classic - The Secret History album is a very good place to start but any album before that is great. They had quite a few hits back in the day, most notably 'Something for the weekend' and 'National Express' but they've got so many great songs. They are the kings of wit and charm; my faves are 'Gin Soaked Boy', 'In pursuit of happiness' and 'Generation sex', check em out.
