QOTD: I live in Simi Valley who's claim to fame is that it is the location of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.

It was also the location for the Rodney King trial which set off riots down in south-central Los Angeles.

It is frequently rated as the safest city in America.

Holy crap Steve! I went to high school in Simi Valley! My prom was postponed because of the Rodney King trial and subsequent riots! I lived off Stearns and work at the Mann Theater! I know it's changed quite a bit since I left in '94.

Wow! Small world.

I live just off of Yosemite so I am pretty near where you were.

I was on a business trip when the Rodney King verdict was announced and I got stuck in Dallas because they shut down LAX because of the riots. People were shooting guns at the planes as they were landing.

Steve
That's because the trial was there but the riots weren't.

BTW Heather, our family hails from Thousand Oaks - where we had a long reign in the band - from Steve down to me.

I'm assuming your talking about marching band right? I went to Simi High (wasn't in the band though), but my ex-uncle was the band director at Royal High. It sure is a small world!

The Durands, my fellow Ventura County-ans!

Yeah, and concert band, too. What years was your ex-uncle the band director at Royal?

This is just a rough estimate, but I'm gonna guess '87 - '95 ish? His name is Robert Aguilar.

Is that the same Simi Valley that has wineries? I think I had something from one of them at some point, and that was why the name was familiar...

Pullman, Washington, about eight miles away, has a lentil festival every year. Moscow has a holistic medicine fair and this weird-as-hell church, Christ Church, pastor Doug Wilson. He wrote a pamphlet ("Slavery As It Was") that was a defense of slavery as being the time of the most racial harmony in America's history. But then it turned out that, even worse, he didn't even really write it; it was plagiarized. He runs a nutbar school for nutbars besides the church. Down south near Jerome, Idaho, where my dad lives, is Atomic City, Idaho, the first city ever powered by nuclear energy (next to the first atomic reactor ever). There's like fifty people, a post office, and a bar, and that's all, I think. Hmm... nothing else to note about either area, I suppose.

Ohhh... Shit. I didn't even notice that. Actually, I did it on purpose because what I had to say was just that important that it had to be said twice.
