I had a PG58, but am now using a 'superlux phantom power required: 9 to 52 VDC" which I've assumed is a condensor.
It came with an acoustic drum mic set for about £150, and I've used the other mics for brass and electric guitar.
If it's not too off topic to ask:
At what point do/did you guys upgrade? What do you listen for that makes you shudder and demand angrily a better mic? Right now, I don't have any problems with it, as far as I know, but I'm aware that it's among the most generic condensor mics out there.

I upgrade when my pocket book allows or when an opportunity arises that I can't avoid like a sale or a deal.
I would like to make the point now that if you have both low end mics and preamps, it is better to upgrade your preamps first.

I think he is... Corporate Ken over there always be reminding everyone to update their pre-amps every 2 years or so.Puce wrote:Is this true? Because I hear it a lot. I'm inclined to believe you, but then again maybe you're in the pocket of Big Preamp.ken wrote:I would like to make the point now that if you have both low end mics and preamps, it is better to upgrade your preamps first.
I'd say by...say updating your pre-amps... just buy a decent mixing board with two level controls per channel. It'll come in handy for more than just microphones.
I updated mics after I got tired of spending way too long to EQ my vocals just right. Probably about 10 fights in.
