"Waiting Room", Fugazi - Thirteen Songs
Gorram, I love Fugazi. Saw a vid of this song being performed way back in 1987 at a show, and it was ridiculously awesome.
I went and listened to the whole Thirteen Songs album straight through, even though it was already past my bedtime.
I've been taking time to listen to "Waiting Room" at least once a day since, just to remind me of the awesome.

I actually took the opportunity, when downloading this new album, to get everything on c.layne's music page (using down 'em all, the best firefox plugin ever). So I've been having this c.layne marathon between Fri and today and this is great. The new album's awesome. So many great songs!thehipcola wrote:The new C.Layne album is awesome. If you haven't checked it, do so now.

The wombats. Punky pop with cutesy witty lyrics, three part harmonies and kiddie choruses. I can see how some poeple would find them a little smug and irritating, and only being a three piece their sound could get a little same-ish over the full album (due 5th Nov) but currently, i think they're great. Check 'em out.

"Alligator" - The National (their third album often mistaken for a debut, released in '05 but still spends most of its time in my cd player)
any of Sea Wolf's stuff, i've been digging them lately
"Super Taranta!" - Gogol Bordello
and several of the motreal indie bands - broken social scene, american analog set, arcade fire, etc.

Cool, I haven't heard anything about a new Ministry album either. In fact, I thought they were done already. Thanks for the tip.
edit: How awesome is it that I can just go straight to myspace and youtube and get what I'm looking for in a matter of seconds.

Thurston Moore - Trees Outside the Academy
Anyone who listens to Sonic Youth will be able to instantly recognize the guitar work on this album. It's a lot prettier than a lot of SY though; Mostly acoustic guitar with lots of nice string arrangements. I would absolutely recommend this to any Sonic Youth fan. It may lack the experimentation and the noise, but the songs are solid.
The Microphones - Mount Eerie/Singing From Mt. Eerie
I've had these albums for quite a while, but only recently have I given them a dedicated listen. I wish I would've done this a long time ago. The soundscapes and interesting arrangements make this something that deserves to be actively listened to. What really stands out to me are the vocals, and that's what makes Singing... such a cool addition, as it is more or less the a capella tracks from Mount Eerie. Neither of these are really albums you want to listen to while driving or working, but if you're wanting something really innovative to just throw some headphones on and relax to, this comes highly recommended.
Behemoth - The Apostacy
This is death metal, so if you don't care for that then there's not much else to draw you to these guys. BUT it you do like it, this stuff is pretty fucking good. The guitar solos are really inventive and the vocals have a unique bite to them. I can't really say this album stands apart from their already big catalogue, but it's good nonetheless.

Yay! Brainiac! Have you checked out Enon? I like a good deal of their stuff -- John Schmersal used to play with Brainiac, and his new band has a lot of stylistic similarity. No Horse Town wrote:I've been listening to Ben Krieger's Cable Beach over and over again since I heard it here on SongFight. And some Brainiac. And now I gotta go to bed.

Hell yeah, I love Enon. And mostly because of John Schmersal, actually. Some of my friends are head-over-heels for "the hot asian chick", and she's great, for sure, but I actually find him a lot sexier. Saw them a few years ago, and that guy puts on one whiz-bang of a stage persona. I heard he had some solo project a while back, but I haven't checked it out yet.Yay! Brainiac! also: how do I make it say "so-and so wrote:" instead of "quote:"? Sorry, not the most forum-experienced person.

It took me an embarrassingly long time to figure that one out too. Go to the post you want to quote -- if you look over to the right, you'll see a button that says "Quote." Hit that button. No Horse Town wrote:Hell yeah, I love Enon. And mostly because of John Schmersal, actually. Anyhoo -- Enon. Yeah, John is fantastic, although "the hot Asian chick" (Toko Yasuda) is pretty fabu too. It just occurred to me to check if they're on the Mall of America (Myspace) and they are! And they're on tour! And they'll be here on Halloween! Hooray! I do not see a stop in NM, unfortunately.
They do indeed put on a fantastic live show -- as did Brainiac, RIP.
