Also, Niveous has judged three!

I don't know if this was covered elsewhere or if this is even the correct thread to post my complaint in, but I wonder why weekends are being excluded from Nur Ein this year? Is it a handicap to people who work for a living? I would rather the title be posted on Friday and due on Monday than have all of Monday through Friday. Please consider revising the schedule to include the weekends. Perhaps the songs would benefit from this. I know mine would.

Thanks!

Be well,

It's the exact same schedule as last year's. Didn't change a date. So that's just how it fell.

Ken - since every one of the rounds is eight days long, every round will include at least one weekend. And because the early rounds start on Monday, Tuesday, etc., the "weekend" will be near the end of the round, which I would think would work well for you working guys.

For me, the round that starts on Thursday is going to be tough, 'cause Thursdays are fully booked, and the weekend is pretty much non-music time for me. Although I s'pose that if I haven't been sent home by then, I'll just have to announce, "hey, I'm going in the studio for a while, why don't you, umm, go buy some clothes or something..."

It's a stretch to say that they are eight days, KA, because several of those days are for judging and posting. However, it's not as bad as it seems. There is SOME weekend in every round.

Round One:
Monday May 5th to Saturday May 10th
YOU GET A COUPLE OF HOURS ON SATURDAY MORNING

Round Two:
Tuesday May 13th to Sunday May 18th
YOU GET ALL DAY SATURDAY AND A COUPLE OF HOURS ON SUNDAY MORNING

Round Three:
Wednesday May 21st to Monday May 26th
YOU'VE GOT ALL WEEKEND

Round Four:
Thursday May 29th to Tuesday June 3rd
AGAIN, ALL WEEKEND

Round Five:
Friday June 6th to Wednesday June 11th
ONCE AGAIN, ALL WEEKEND

Round Six:
Saturday June 14th to Thursday June 19th
DEPENDING ONE WHEN THE TITLE IS POSTED, PART OF SATURDAY AND ALL DAY SUNDAY

Final Round:
Sunday June 22nd to Friday June 27th
DEPENDING ON WHEN THE TITLE IS POSTED, PART OF SUNDAY

I'm screwed this week.

I thought I would have tonight, but I am currently sitting on a bus in downtown Manhattan that was supposed to me home between 6:30 and 7:00. (It's a 3+ hour drive and we are slow enough traffic that I'm getting a consistent free internet connection.) It's now 4:35PM by the way.

It took us 5+ hours to get here this morning for no apparent reason. (Okay, there was an accident on the PA Turnpike, but still.)

Did I mention I'm screwed this week?

frankie big face wrote:Given the uneven results, how the hell does anyone know what the judges are listening for? It's not like you have any special qualifications to judge beyond saying "I'll do it" on a message board. None of you has made a list of your criteria or whatever.
As requested, here is a list of my criteria. The factors I consider are, in order of decreasing importance:
  1. Memorable Melody
  2. Engaging music
  3. Slick production
  4. Enjoyable Lyrics
  5. Title usage
  6. Challenge fulfillment
While that's the general hierarchy, if you miss the last two you will go straight to the bottom of my list. I'll illustrate how the order works: A song with shit production but a killer, hummable melody will trump a slickly produced song with a forgettable melody. A song with unique, exciting instrumentation but god-awful lyrics will trump a 12-bar blues G&G song (retch...) with well-thought-out lyrics. An embarrassing skirmish-quality song that was clearly written for the title and meets the challenge will trump an otherwise-perfect song that was not written for the title or does not meet the challenge. Additionally, a song that uses the challenge in a creative way will trump a song that uses it in a cursory, superficial or obvious way; same goes for the title. For a concrete example of this, Erik's unique use of the title in Round Zero earned him mad points from me.

Additionally, anyone who rhymes 'Sleepwalking' with 'Deep Cocking' this week will get bonus points. It should be noted that that is a huge lie.

I'm not Canadian - but when I say it - "Sleepwalking" sounds nothing like "deep cocking". It does sound like "deep corking" though - which I guess is something I might be able to do figuratively with my cock. Will I get points for that?
