I built some foam panels which I hang on my walls, which helps a little bit. Also, if you have hardwood floors, look into area rugs. Adding furniture helps too.
Thanks for the suggestions. So it's basically just about absorbing the sound. Makes sense. My last place was carpeted with a couch and various other items with a 7 foot ceiling. The new place is hardwood flooring, minimal furniture, and a vaulted 8' to 10' ceiling. So, I'll get out the old blankets and give 'em a whirl. Hmmm, and instead of spending a few hundred on acoustic panels, I might just get some decor.
I did put a curtain on the window which helped a little, so I can already see it in action.
And on the song.... nothing like procrastination! I'll be pounding out the vocals this weekend though!

Got my recordings made. Ehhh. Not that thrilled with the overall result, but I came up with some ideas that I think help it a bit. Going to relisten tomorrow, maybe remix, and then done.

Cripes, I thought the deadline was a couple days further back than it is. I'll try to have a finished product by Monday night, but if not, I won't be able to finish until Thursday (at which point, it will be done). Sorry, soon-to-be coveree.

I hate to make excuses for my work, but since this is a cover of someone else's work, I feel compelled to apologize. Six weeks of time became this weekend only, thanks to work and family and a bitch of a cold that I still have, and the changing time signatures of the original are kicking my ass like Hannah Montana trying to cover Frank Zappa (playing her own instruments.) Needless to say, I'm doing a hail-mary and trying to pull something out, but goddamn it's awful.
EDIT: Also, this is the second condenser microphone I've owned that suddenly lost all its low-end and developed a high-end hiss (two different mics, two different manufacturers.) Someone please tell me what I'm doing to trash my mics. Thank you.

Too much shock? Don't let your dog play fetch with the mics.
Too much wind/humidity? Use a pop shield. And no dog slobbering on the mic, either!
Also, don't deep-fry them. The mics, that is. Deep-frying your dog does not impact sound quality.
Or perhaps the mic is just badly manufactured. Who knows.

Well then I'm glad I also did a cover of my original target as a just-in-case thing (after King Arthur's dire warning).

Could also be something wrong with the power source that's causing the preamp to blow out.
What time are they due tomorrow? I want to do a final fresh ear listen and mix tomorrow before I send it off. I didn't see it listed, so I'm guessing by midnight mañana.

Yeah, that's fine. It'll take me a day or so to get everything in place, and I've PM'd JB to see if he can help me set this up with the regular coverfight tools. So, yeah, midnight tomorrow is fine.
BTW, if anybody has remixed or polished up their song since they sent me the URL, be sure to let me know - I've been pulling the songs onto my own machine, so if you've just replaced the file on your own server, I may not have gotten the updated version.
Thanks, all!

I'm glad, too! I threw out what I had, started over from scratch, and I like it as an instrumental, oddly enough. Dunno if I'll have enough voice by midnight tomorrow. Time will tell.

"Brilliant and disastrous at almost the exact same time" - Melvin
as of this morning, 11 of the 23 participants have received a song, everybody else seems on track to have something in soon, with one exception... I pinged that one person this morning and hopefully will know status shortly.
I haven't listened to the songs yet, but will do that today, and if there's anything that doesn't play, I'll let you know right away.
Thanks, everybody!
