The Song Fight Bulletin Board

I just sent mine in. This will be my first entry with a mastering program. I'm pretty happy with the song, but I'm concerned that it's too polished. I need to spend more time learning these newfangled devil tools. 8)

I submitted my entry for "Georgia's Hand" early this morning! I can't wait to hear all the other songs, and I hope you like mine.

Well, folks, it looks like a nice little resurgence of songfight superstars here. Minty Handy - I swear to Timberlake that your fusing of melody with the title on "Love Violates" was mind-warping to me. It's awesome.

Well, our song this time is "rushed" or "rough" or unfinished. It's definitely unmixed. I'm curious to see the reactions. Oh well. I love you guys. I miss doing this regularly.

Oh man, I hope I haven't set you all up for disappointment by submitting a hasty, half-assed piece for my return. (EDIT: the song's not half-assed -- I like it, and worked hard on it -- but the production values are. It takes me a lot longer to record than it does to write.)

On the other hand, y'all just keep praising me to the high heavens, because my kids have done a remarkable job of humbling me. And who wants that? Not me, I say. Inflate my head like the balloon it is.

While presentation certainly helps to sell a song, sometimes a song can shine through a poorly polished production. (ouch.. that was tongue twister material.) Besides, you just had twins enter your life. That's TWO handfuls.

I feel the same way. I can hear a song recorded on a cassette tape with a boom box and know if the song is good or has potential. Which is probably why I've taken so long to make the leap to a digital home studio. I've just never felt the need until now.
But 99.9% of the people I play a song for expects a good quality recording I've come to notice, even here at Song Fight. A good portion of the reviews here are talking about recording, mixing and production and very little about the songs. At first when I had just joined, I thought that was so strange, but after a couple weeks here I came to realize, with all the rappers and electronica members here, recording, mixing and production is what it is all about, so naturally that's what they are paying attention to first. Maybe it's because of the high tech age we live in now, there's no excuses. *shrugs*
