I didn't know it was Elvis week, but I have been trying to work the King into my vox from the get go. My song kind of (50/50) took a serious turn, but I haven't started a bridge yet, and I tend to make my bridges as their own entity. So we shall see.

From my research it appears that Ptah was the primary god for Memphis.
I was going to take the same angle but right now it looks like I won't be submitting anything.
Steve
That's true , we end up mentioning both, apparently many thought of Ptah and Ra as one and the same.
the whole time I was thinking about my favorite Reiner Knizia game "Ra" so it was hard not to throw in Ra, but we did the research and Ptah is in the Chorus.

Really wanted to do this, but I'm leaving for the Philly Folk Fest and will be without recording gear.

Thank God for Memphis
Its just not the same since you went away
Before you lose your accent
And forget all about the Lonestar State
There's a seat for you at the rodeo
And I've got every slow dance saved
Besides the Mexican food sucks north of here anyway

Quit claiming Elvis as your own, he's a mississippi boy,
the saying goes 'le roy est mort', well vive le fucking roy.

I had a decent idea that I developed into a rudimentary recording of a song. Can someone help me clean it up? Is it necessary to clean a recording up to submit it?

It really isn't. I'm sure somebody will be willing to help you out if you want it, but rudimentary recordings are just as welcome as polished ones. The reviews might be a little more negative, though.

Welcome to Songfight!
Thanks!
I'm going to experiment in Audacity and try to flesh this out. Maybe tomorrow I'll rerecord the parts with the mic hissing.
Where could I ask around for a person to help?

The Collaborations forum on this very board is quite helpful if you want someone to help you out, or if you're just looking for tips and advice on how to improve your own recording then check out the help-and-how-to forum. I know I've learned a lot from there - about limiting and clipping recently in particular.

So, seeing how the due date changed and the optional challenge is "live recording", I'm gonna guess this is the title for the live fight part of Song Fight Live 2007.

time is definitely my enemy this week.
for my last few songs i was able to do "full band versions".
this week though, i'm back to a one take guitar and vocals together kind of thing. i added a couple effects to thicken the sound, but it's all just one take, right after i finished writing it. someday, i'd like to re-record and flush this one out a lot more, but i've done all i can for now.
on the upside, i've taken more care with my lyrics this time, and they are not as trite as usual.
see you on the other side of the fight.
edit: extended date, huh? at least i accomplished the optional challenge without meaning to. true, it's not live in front of anyone, but it was recorded entirely in one take.

The extended date makes me very happy for two reasons. a) I might be able to find a timeframe for decent vocal recording, and b) JR's drums will be set up. Rock on!

Glad you pointed that out, I didn't notice that the due date is now the 20th. I got a ton done on Sunday, so I just need to do vox and production. I now plan on taking my time.

It usually takes me 1-2 hours of vocal retakes and edits just to submit a song that you guys totally trash, so I don't think submitting a live version is an option for me at this point. But, I will submit a studio version.

I've been to Memphis once!
...
also, Memphis is considered part of the Delta Blues?

The Mississippi Delta runs from Memphis to Vicksburg, so yes. I didn't know that until now. I choose that prefight because of the Mark Cohn song "Walking in Memphis"
"Put on my blue suede shoes
And I boarded the plane
Touched down in the land of the Delta Blues
In the middle of the pouring rain"

Geographically, yes. Delta Blues and Memphis Blues are two distinct styles of blues music though.
