ooohhh.... "THE" songfight live.... well.

I'm still me.

And I want to go to "THE" songfight live... assuming a destination is actually selected, and I have enough time to arrange a visit...

If it's gonna be in the middle of nowhere, it should at least be somewhere pretty, like Colorado, or at least an interesting place to visit (like Mississippi (IMO)). Be nice if there was more reason to go there than just SFL.
I found Cleveland really pretty. The lake especially, right past the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. When I visited I was a little early, so I strolled down and took a look. The city looked nice too, from what I remember. I don't think Denver area is all that gorgeous. In fact a lot of Denver is very unattractive, but that's the case with most big cities.

Also, erik, re your comment: yeah, I know, it's just that most of the people in the thread were talking about the B.

Near the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame would be a very appropriate location for a Song Fight Live.

Cleveland is a nice place, and the R&R hall even has at least one stage that they don't use much...

Frankly, I'm in the Hoblit camp: just tell me where and when and I'll probably show up. I just want to make sure this happens and I'm willing to do some amount of work to help put on a show in Boston. What I don't want is to get into a fight about locations-- if someone else wants to run the show, that is totally cool with me. If not, well, I'm sure we can put something together here.

Ohio is the other place that's been kicked around for a long time now, but really, almost anywhere would work. Insert favorite Field of Dreams quotation, et cetera.

I like the sound of Cleveland. I'll try to attend wherever it is, but Vegas might be a hard sell to my folks, since I plan on flying alone to wherever it'll be this summer.

That said, there are songfighters younger than I, so I think Vegas might be a bad idea maybe.

Doesn't Cleveland have that lake rock quary about an hour out of town?

(I've known two people who came from Cleveland and they both had described great parties)

Oh, obligatory: Cleveland rocks!

Vegas has lots to do even if you're under twenty-one, but I wouldn't trust JB and the gang to go to Circus Circus over Caesar's Palace or the MGM Grand or whatever to make allowances for the handful of attendees that are underage. I mean buffets are all-ages, but late-night hijinx would almost assuredly be 21+ by necessity. For that reason, plus that there's no local SongFighters there (unless I'm wrong), maybe we should shy away from Vegas for `05.

I am firmly of the opinion that age of the participants should not be a factor in deciding where a Song Fight event is held.

It can be an issue that is dealt with through whatever we've gotta do in order to let our underage pals attend, but not having it in Vegas because your parents wouldn't approve is something I'd fight pretty hard.

Basically I'm a drinking, cursing heathen and I don't want to compromise my fun for somebody else's damned mores. Not on my damned vacation, the only one I'll probably take in a given year.

I think your preconceived idea of Las Vegas is a bit naive. It's not all gambling, prostitutes, and porn conventions. Lots of families vacation there every year. There are all kinds of different entertainment such as plays, magic shows, performance art...heck, thats where The Blue Man Group draws it's largest crowds. I understand that some of the best food in america is served in Las Vegas as well as that roller coaster on top of a high rise hotel.

That said, I've never really been into that idea, but would go anyways. JB's idea of Orlando is a pretty good one, but there is only one Orlando songfighter and I'd be the only other one near the area. However, the idea of it is good...as it would help draw those who wouldn't necessarily go if it were say, in Cleveland. NO OFFENSE CLEVELAND, I was born in Toledo and have relatives in Greenville... Ohio is great an' all... just Orlando might have a better draw. IF I'm still in Florida NEXT summer (read, not THIS summer) I'd consider working out an Orlando event. However, there is a really good possibility that I won't be here in Florida NEXT summer. Universal Studios and Universal Studio's Islands of Adventure are two great theme parks. Not to mention Disney and all the other little things to do in the area. Flights to Orlando are teh cheapzorz.

Anyways, Cleveland? Boston? now we're getting somewhere.

Jb, I see where you're coming from, and you certainly hold a position of higher authority than I, so I'll just point out that it's everyone else's vacation, too. Plus, there are places other than Vegas where one can have fun.

VEGAS!!!!!

(while nobody actually live's there, it's pretty close for anyone on the left coast, and certainly a fun vacation for anyone not.)

and lets not forget cheap and plentiful food, lodging, and hookers are available 24/7.

Alright, so there's a lot of things for underage people to do in Vegas. But seriously, I don't want to travel that far for a SFLive event and then not be able to follow the Songfighters to whatever evening revelries they decide upon, and you're not going to let a few minors get in the way of your fun. Seriously now, if it were in Vegas, you can tell me (and Marcus, and Poncho) all the fun things we can do in Vegas as minors, but the big kids will still be doing big kid things. And from a selfish standpoint, if that's how it's going to turn out, I won't want to go, because I don't want to travel that far alone to be left alone.

I'm more in favour of Vegas myself...as it's more doable, being on the west coast... and I'm in for the drinking and partying... in fact, I'd be up for getting Generic wasted... I bet he'd be a riot. Maybe Vacouver.... drinking age is 19, so it would appease your legal mores too...

Ever since the seattle show (fuck you, it was still a songfight gathering!!) I 've had a little fantasy of inviting you all to Quadra for a summer show... big community hall, great fishing, wilderness kinda trip, tons of people would come out... I'd say I can GAURENTEE (though not spell it) an audience of at LEAST 100 people, and with good avertising and cheap tickets, probably more like 300 music loving, partying people. I just need two things:
1) to make the commitment
2) to have interest from other fighters.

Mull it over... however, I'm still keen on the Vegas thing, possibly the Boston one, just to get out of the house!

EDIT: Apparently I require a dictionary too....

I know, as did Ken, and I believe Glenn expressed interest, and possibly Octothorpe...of course Puce, and I've got a fairly decent p.a,.(2500 stereo watts out, lot's of mics, drums, bass, guitar gear...etc)... I'm leaning this way pretty heavy to be honest, just throwing it out there for y'all....all 'y'all..

This area is all about fishing, hiking, big trees, bears, eagles, etc. The scene on Quadra is split between fishermen and other resource based working people, a strong hippy contingent, lot's a skater kids, lot's of weed, a couple pubs, some stellar food, some not so stellar food... I've got a good jam room/studio for rehearsing...

I'll officially make up my mind in the new year on it... like I said, I just need to commit, and make sure y'all L'all be showing up y'all.

Vegas is like Disneyland now, so fresh and so clean clean.

Well, the Strip is, anyway.

...lot's of hotties in the summer dude... mostly hear for summer jobs... so the romance isn't that out of the reach. Yes, there is a bike rental place with mountain bikes, scooter rentals, kayak tours , whale watching... boat tours, canoe rentals, a decent strip club in Campbell River (10 minute ferry ride) Campbell river has teh whole McDonalds, Wendy's, Boston Pizza, etc trip going on too. Tennis courts on Quadra (free) golfing in CR, (not the greatest mind you, but inexpensive).... the main industry here is tourism, so it's all set up for that....camping, you get the picture. Airport in Campbell River means no confusing driving to find the place either.
