i've heard some pretty strong comments on songfight before but this one takes the cake. from what i know about that particular artist, i translate this to mean, "awful, trite and predictable music, sung by a slut". could you elaborate?
well, when you take my words (or anyone elses for that matter) out of context, sure, you can make anything sound mean spirited. you don't like my opinion? fine, move on. i actually LIKED the tune. i actually LIKE christina aguilara. the comparison was made as the song is extremely slick and well produced (although i think maybe mastered loud but thats a matter of opinion and taste) and the singer is excellent, which you failed to include when you pasted my words here....

"take with a grain of salt"....you must have missed that part...

ironclef - doesn't really hold my interest. there's nothing really outstanding going on to latch on to.
oh, and talk about an uninformative and unimaginative review. you get what you pay for.

i didn't take your words out of context - i asked you to clarify one particular phrase, which is exactly what you did in the response. i didn't know you liked christina aguilera. most people who create music i've come across would interpret the comparison the way i did, as christina is not generally held in high regard in those circles. so put it down to misunderstanding.
as for my review of your song, i could've been more diplomatic that's true but i honestly couldn't think of any constructive criticism i could offer. i just didn't like the song. unfortunately of all my reviews your song was the only one i couldn't come up with anything constructive, but if you like i'll listen to it again and try.

don't bother. your opinion really doesn't mean that much to me. thanks for listening and doing reviews.

gee user, go read my review of his song and tell me what i said that was so bad.

unless, a comparison to arguably one of the worlds best female vocalists is considered a bad thing by anyone other than humbert....

aside from a lil complaining about the mix, this review was mostly positive. but i *can* understand how this particular comment could be misconstrued. it all depends on your particular point of reference.

see, if you mention christina to me, i would think of someone who is a pretty great singer, especially for her age, but who is given some really really shitty songs to sing which totally do not showcase her abilities very well. (this is based on the two or three songs i've actually heard her singing). so based on that preconception of miss aguilera, if you told me a song sounded like something she would sing, without further explanation, i would think the song was a piece of shit but sung very well.

so, although humbert was probably a bit out of line getting all bent out of shape about it (which is something most people have been guilty of at one time or another) i can see how the comment could be misinterpreted as negative, not knowing YOUR point of view, jack. it's good that you went on to explain exactly what you meant when you said what you did, but the conversation should have been left at that.

Jack, your review was fine and dandy. It wasn't until after he questioned it that you spread your claws.

and in the time it took you to write all that, how many songs could you have reviewed? ;)

*edit.....i mean no offense to humbert. what i should have said was no one person's opinion is that important to me. at least more important than my own.

all reviews...

Post by creep »

All reviewers I think should get props....spending valuable time to give your opinion and possible tips on a song is a good thing. Sometimes people word things the wrong way about a song that someone has put blood and sweat into for hours or even days.....think about it, your natural reaction is too defend your work. The main thing is to not hold grudges.....that would make this site unproductive. Don't NOT VOTE for someone one week just because they had something bad to say about you the week before. People say things in different ways, take it with a grain of salt, and if you must retaliate...be quick and to the point about it, and then drop it. CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG...for the sake of our music? And hats off to everyone for taking the time to review....YOU ROCK!!!!!! Even if you say I SUCK...
America....what's the word?

Thanks for your insights :)

If you post a review, you should be ready to defend your stance. Just like if you post a song. there is no other excuse.

I didn't... I think folks quickly discredit music based on preconceived ideas that their peers help fuel and facilitate. Christine and Britney are both great performers and can sing quite well. Even if they don't all the time. Both are attractive. How one translates sexy into slut tells you quite a bit about their pre-conceived ideas about artists. Nothing at all wrong with being sexy. Heck, I wish *I* was sexy. sometimes I wish I was a slut too!

oh man! this is too much. i'm being sexist for calling christina a slut? gimme a break. first of all, what does calling someone a slut have to do with being sexist? i'm just as ready to call a male performer a slut.

as to whether she really is a slut, perhaps i put it a bit too strongly. but before you jump up in protest, check out the following photo:

http://musicfinder.yahoo.com/artist/pho ... 839/434496

ok, to some people, that's just sexy, not being a slut. everyone has a right to their opinion.

as to whether she has talent or not, that's also beside the point. i'm not debating whether or not she does. but there are plenty of female artists out there who have at least as much talent as christina and don't resort to wearing jeans that barely cover their private bits to sell records.

don't get me wrong. i'm not a puritan and am not offended by pictures of women in skimpy clothes. whether or not doing that is degrading to women in general is a debate i dont want to get into. what bothers me personally, as a musician, about christina is that she is mixing it up with music; thus second rate songs are being peddled to the public by using sex to sell it and christina has made the choice to be a part of that. therefore as a musician i refuse to give her any respect, talent or no talent.

Christina Aguilera has a decent voice. However when she gets on stage she's an actress. Playing a part. That's what a lot of 'pop' singers are nowadays. Whether this means she's a slut is debateable. Is she playing a slut, an actual slut, or a pure gift? Eh, who cares?

it's pretty hard to see what she's wearing (or not wearing) through my stereo speakers. she has talent because she can sing, not because she's got a great ass. if you think she made it only because of her lack of attire, you're nuts.

while i certainly respect your opinion and the right to express it, i should also point out that a case could be easily made that literally millions of folks would beg to differ on your opinion of her music.

sounds like sour grapes to me.

Reviews Part I

Post by artsta »

There are too many to review in one hit so heres what I got so far:

Modcrew
This is a good idea with interesting lyrics. It would be a great intro for a crazy Jesus (or Satan) metal song.

Freddilove
This reminds me of many songs I like. “Cloud Factory” by The Clouds being one of them.

Poorjune
Like the last 2 chords of the piano riff. I would try to go for more a Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds production on this one – try to copy the production on “The Mercy Seat”. If you don’t have the gear then just use more sounds – slowed down hand clapping or chanting type harmonies, slowed down guitar/piano or something.

Nipple Creek Faries
Great song. Would love to hear it live. Could really lose that cymbal completely though. It spoils the recording.

The Befores
Mate, Christina never sounded so good! Production and mixing is faultless. Martin Gore and Tricky can safely retire. I agree with fluffy, “eargasm” is the best way to describe this one “To love you is endless….”

Deshead
The Seal “Kissed by a rose” intro put me in the wrong frame of mind but then I quickly recovered after the song fully started. Really love the “Im a Child bit”. If it means anything to you, this is my girlfriends favourite.

Futureboy
You might be a giant.

Creep
Love the keyboard bit that comes in after 20sec. If you have a mate with a guitar, I would love to hear some grindy distorted guitars in the mix.

Hostess Mostess
Like it allot. Definitely one of my favourites. This one has really charmed me for some reason.

Kens’ Super
I like it. Sometimes I think the lead guitar gets in the way of vocal melody esp in the “Please come home tonight..” bit. Songs got a great feel to it.

Tripped
Would have liked the vocals louder.

Kelvinator
I think you need to remix the song and post it on your website.

More coming soon...
