Spokane Livefight 2006 BECOMES Santa Cruz 2006

Post by GlennCase »

I am just in the thinking stage of this right now.

I am volunteering to step up and host Songfight Live 2006 in Spokane.

There isn't a megaton of things to do in Spokane, but hotels and such are rather cheap, the weather isn't too bad here, and I am thinking that I should have a pretty good idea of venues and such by then.

We do have <a href="http://www.spokaneriverfrontpark.com/ab ... Riverfront Park</a> which is pretty cool. Where else will you find a gigantic <a href="http://www.spokaneriverfrontpark.com/red_wagon.asp">Red Wagon</a> that doubles as a slide?

Visitors also tend to like the Nishinomiya Japanese Garden at <a href="http://inlandtour.debut.net/south-hill/ ... ml">Manito Park</a>.

I realise that people such as JB use their only vacation time during Songfight Live. It would need to be worth their time, surely.

Seattle is 279.23 miles away from Spokane according to <a href="http://www.mapquest.com/directions/main ... apquest</a>

George, WA is the home of <a href="http://www.hob.com/venues/concerts/gorge/">"The Gorge Amphitheatre"</a> which is one of the most breathtaking places to catch a live concert. (Admittedly, the trafiic while leaving is a ROYAL PAIN)

It is 131.32 miles away from Spokane according to <a href="http://www.mapquest.com/directions/main ... apquest</a>

Thoughts/suggestions welcomed at this time.

ROCK!

How close is it to the closest biggish airport? I should be driving by next summer, so it wouldn't matter too much if I had to drive from big airport to small city, but it wouldn't be good if it was a real long way.

But I'm up for WA. It would be the most west I've been. :)

Spokane actually has it's own <a href="http://www.spokaneairports.net/">airport</a> that is decent sized. Actually "It is the second largest airport in the State of Washington and recognized by the FAA as a small hub." according to their website.

Researching others at present, and will edit this as I have info.

As far as Barbecues go, Justin is BARBECUE ZEUS! We will just have to put him to work :)

What is the preference on brand of beer? I don't drink, of course, so I don't know what is good.

I would definitely be up for Spokane. It's only two hours from Moscow/Pullman (another bonus! these cities rock and Marcus Kellis lives in the one) and I could probably lend a hand in setting things up, too, maybe, but Glenn would be able to do it well by hisself I'm sure.

Spokane is only about four hours from Seattle, which you may find to be a cheaper flight. Maybe you could road trip with Spud or Fluffy from there, or rent a car. It's a rather pretty (and easy) drive.

For BBQs, I think light beers are better. Does Spokane have local breweries?

Also important is the traditional Erik and JB cooler of booze.

We used to have the Fort Spokane Brewery, but it was closed down.

It appears that we DO have the <a href="http://www.steamplantgrill.com/cda.asp">Steam Plant Grill</a> which I had never heard of before today. I really should research what other cool locations exist locally.

I know that the <a href="http://www.spokane7.com/food_drink/rest ... Prospector Bar & Grill</a> is a MUST. I recently went there and had the country fried steak... There is a <a href="http://coldfusion.mead.k12.wa.us/mtsp/t ... fm">review </a>that I read that said it is "The size of a hubcap". It is not an exaggeration!

We have liquor stores. That shouldn't be too much of a hassle.

<a href="http://www.mootsys.com/mootpics2.html">Mootsy's</a> IS pretty cool. Great place to see local music. It's in our downtown area. Oddly enough, it was the first place where I saw my friends in the band <a href="http://www.kitegravity.com">Kite</a> play!

<a href="http://www.icehouse.net/jupitermusic/bs ... .html">The B-Side</a> is also a bad-ass local venue.

Good man, Spud!

Again, if someone else has a better idea for '06, I am not necessarily against it. I am just OFFERING to host '06.

The plane tickets might cost more than some big city destinations, but the hotel costs should offset it nicely, should Spokane suffice.

ROCK!

I'm in... I'm gonna have to bail on Boston... I just can't afford it right now.. so this would be a sweet alternative for the future days.

I think this is just Glenn being impatient and trying to force bzl into action.

Ooh, going back to Spokane would be very interesting. I hung out there one summer. We drank a lot, but it was Hamm's ("from the land of sky blue waters"). Not good.
It'd be real neat to see that city again though. Boston's on my front burner, but this is simmering nicely in the back.

p.s. Leaf, that sucks, dude. Sorry I won't be seeing ya in Beantown.

For all you arrivals to the Lilac City, I will be happy to pick up someone if they need a ride from the airport, as it's about 10 miles away from downtown and would cost a pretty penny to catch a cab.
Plus if there's any early arrivals, I'll be more than happy to show you the nightlife if you're a day or two early.
Wouldn't mind getting a bunch of Fighters together for a drunken Kareoke session at a chinese joint. That would be interesting indeed.

And as for beer, we again look to our Canadian friends for our mind altering substances: Kokanee. Greatest beer EVER!!
