"Postcard" by 15-16 puzzle
Time passes much too fast,
I'd stop it if I could.
Quit tapping on the glass,
It won't do any good.
I'm hearing from the past,
I wonder if I should.
I'm rarely overwhelmed
And barely understood.
I'd send you a fax
If I wasn't lax
About keeping up with you;
I'd send you a telegram
If I gave a damn
What you thought.
"I'll drop you a line
When I get the time..."
But baby we both know that's a lie,
Cuz an empty postcard's really all I got.
Run through the rumor mill,
Tell me if it flies;
Already had enough
Of promises and lies.
Feels like we're standing still:
One too many tries.
No message underneath
To overanalyze.
I'd give you a call
If I cared at all
About keeping up with you.
I'd give you a note
That someone else wrote,
If only you had a clue.
(Oh, baby, no)
When you check the mail, that postcard should be blank;
Read between the lines, you know who you can thank.
I think you don't understand
That I got nothing to say,
Cuz I said it all the day you moved away.
You say you can't read my mind,
Wanna make a bet?
An empty postcard's all
(Upended on the wall)
An empty postcard's all you get.

Re: Postcard
postcard - frankie big face
a fountain in a garden
conviction or a pardon?
if i read between the lines, can we put this all behind
or are we just getting started?
i don't want a postcard
i want you
holed up in the east bay
more than usual to say
twenty-seven lines getting smaller as you write
just to say you're okay.
i don't want a postcard
i want you
all the way from tuscon
"if you're reading this, i'm already gone.
like the light from a star that's been dead since i was born
i've moved on."

POSTCARD
The memory of a life gone by fades like the last rays of the sun
though promise of a new day shines bright with hope to come.
40 years of dust lies heavy like a blanket
With every step the floorboards creak with weary sighs
Stale and close the summer air shrouds decades full of mem'ries
My grandparents' attic was a mirror of their lives.
Grandpa was a tall man, that's all I can remember
They say he was a hero and grandma's Galahad
Her final days awoke in me a quest for truth about him
and the sparkle in her eye was the only proof I ever had.
The slanting rays of evening sun create a dusty halo
'round the army trunk in the corner by the stairs
The Great War gone for 80 years, what answers might it hide
Beneath the lid such treasures lie so valuable and rare.
Stars of bronze, a purple heart, a coat of olive green
But hidden on the side a postcard lay
dated nineteen-seventeen.
I read each line, it was grandpa's voice I heard
Behind each word of bravery a new picture did arise
The frailty I had only known seemed to quickly melt away
A knight he truly was, now I could see through grandma's eyes.
The memory of a life gone by dawns with the morning sun,
And promise of a new day shines bright with hope to come.

Re: Postcard
OCTOTHORPE
Postcard
--------
Out and away.
Eating some goodness on a summers day.
I see the sky.
And wonder if I could fly.
Out Jim walked.
Of the store as people talked.
Desert heat.
Causes sweat on his tired feet.
[Chorus]
Exotic lands.
Missed by you.
His friends say.
Look at this zoo.
He is questioning.
As he chews.
Just like the postcard.
Wondering what to do.
[End Chorus]
His pop stops him by the shop.
Pointing out the hidden British cop.
Jim grabs the knife.
Stabs the man.
The police gives chase.
Messed up his plan.
Jim flees the scene as Calicos gab.
Super european spider cab.
[Chorus]
In Burmuda the birds sing a melodic song.
But it doesn't change how Jims life has gone.
The bars are iron, and quite thick.
He writes on the walls with a pointy stick.
Counting down the days, he survives.
As another piece of mail suddenly arrives.
Mocking his imprisonment, with its talk of freedom.
The people in the postcard are suffering in Viet Nam.

POSTCARD - Jonas Emmett
I'm the J to the O to the N A S
Got the grammatical precision with which you don't mess
Every MC I've bested can attest
Tho some were dumb, and others deaf
But that's not the point, I'm shooting for the top
I'ma blow up the joint when I grab my molotov
Cocktail, I never fail
You suckers got your rhymes at a firesale
Other MCs bail cos they quail and flail
And I hate to shame names but I will prevail
You see, I'm a Cancer, that's my Zodiac sign
I was born in the summertime and born to rhyme
Like a sweet sunbeam I am known to shine
On an island paradise with a twist of lime
Cos my element is water like Jeet Kune Do
It's really elementary, I got the flow
So if you gonna step up then you ought to know
Surfaris got your number, you can try to float
I get called on to fight in the chill of night
I fly straight to the mic like a streak of light
Trippin up bad boys like they're puffed-up tykes
When I sling my rhymes to left and right
On the Marvel chart of powers I be ranked as the most hard
Battle fat MCs and you know that I roast lard
Cops can't stop me, better call in the Coast Guard
I've long moved on, yo I'll send you a postcard
