Glenn Case - In This Moment
There were warning signs that you ignored
Acted against your own interests, the same as before
I hope that I'm wrong
It's unfolding in steps
The worst of this hasn't happened
At least as of yet
You get what you get
You get what you get
You get what you get
You get what you get
When things fall apart, don't say a word
I gave you more credit than you deserved
I hope that I'm wrong
It's unfolding in steps
The worst of this hasn't happened
At least as of yet
You get what you get
You get what you get
You get what you get
You get what you get
In this moment (In this moment)
Attempt to mitigate the impact ahead
Soon we'll both know it (We'll both know)
We're already dead
You get what you get
You get what you get
You get what you get
You get what you get
We get what we get
And in this moment
We get what we get
Impact's ahead
We get what we get
Soon we'll both know it
We get what we get
And we're all dead
Oblique Strategy/Challenge: Honor thy error as a hidden intention
“The trouble with trying to make the right accident happen is that it won't. That is not what "accident" means.”
― Douglas Adams
Played live drums because I'd say it's by far the worst thing I play regularly. I anticipated that I would make way more mistakes, and that paid off for the challenge. Most obvious mistake is the kick and cymbal that come in at the beginning, which was 4 beats sooner than I wanted. I made the same mistake on a guitar part in a later take, so I kept it in. Helps it sound slightly more intentional, but it was another genuine accident. Also missed the first snare in the bridge section after chorus 2.
The first chord of the pre-chorus was not the intended chord but it still sounded pretty cool, so I rolled with it. Additionally, I screwed up the rhythm in that section, coming in sooner than intended for the 7th chord in the sequence. An uninentional improvement.
There are also audio artifacts from one of the guitar parts that bleed through in the intro. I threw a noise gate on the guitar track, but it was not effective in silencing the sound.

Caravan Ray - In This Moment
Honour thy error as a hidden intention
A beneficial dose of divine intervention
A good fuck-up is the brother of invention
Sometimes things just will not go your way,
You might slip, trip, or make mistakes today.
In this moment in time
Without no reason or rhyme
You take a step back and say
"Yeah. That's exactly what I had in mind"
Let the serendipity shine
Alexander Flemming
Went away on holiday
Forgot to clean petri dish that he had some shit in
And saw where there was mould there was no bacteria
And said “Fuck yeah! I'll call it Penicillin"!
So next time that you fuck-up
you just laugh and say,
That's the way I meant to do it,
That's just my way
For in this moment, there’s a spark of gold,
An accidental genius that’s yet to unfold
Honour thy error as a hidden intention
A beneficial dose of divine intervention
A good fuck-up is the brother of invention
Sometimes things just will not go your way,
You might slip, trip, or make mistakes today.
Put in earplugs
Take a break
Don't be frightened of cliches
Emphasise repetitions
Use `unqualified' people
Be extravagant

Re: SOMESONGS 2024 Round 6: "In This Moment"
The Idiot Kings - In This Moment
So what happens next
When we get who they elect
I want to shout and scream
Right in this moment
To those who fear the most
And want to give up the ghost
Your anger is a tool
Right in this moment
Organize!
Organize!
For the challenge I took two approaches: the first is that rhythmically the vocals are a bit off and I didn't bother re-cutting, and the synth solo at the end is sloppy and I chose to not care. I like it as it is.
The second approach was a small but fun twist on it. The very first word in the song came in pretty well, so I threw melodyne on it and created a pitch mistake. I did it more dramatically on the third song. I know this is technically the opposite of the challenge but it felt fun to throw in another twist for the last tune.

Add - In This Moment
The room is spinning around you
And life will go on without you
It's probably better than lurking forever in the background
Is it bad enough to think that we're doomed
In this moment of doubt I do
And the beautiful world that we knew
Is lovelier now that it's torn in two
The story will get worse before it's finished
Our lives passing us by with each passing minute
You're not thinking, you're just feeling
And I know that they'll get even if they have to wait all night
You'll find no sanctuary crawling under the weight you carry
I'll tell you this before I go
Is it bad enough to think that we're doomed
You ask me in this moment of truth
And the beautiful world that we knew
Can be lovelier than what it's turned into
Challenge: I recorded the first couple of tracks at a much faster tempo, on the theory that I'd be more likely to make mistakes. As luck would have it, in addition to some usual flubs, when I slowed the tracks back down, I had played in a different feel than I'd intended. Naturally, I went with it.

Re: SOMESONGS 2024 Round 6: "In This Moment"
Tomorrow - In This Moment
Hydraulic press between her ribs
Where something else really oughta be
Push all the youth she can in there
And brush out the debris
Why yes
I'm a mess
And yet
I'm proud of the man I've become
Exhale
I failed
And yet
I ended up where I belong
Got drafted into service
Fighting the war on solitude
But in this moment I can see
This path was mine to choose
Why yes
I'm a mess
And yet
I'm proud of the man I've become
Exhale
I failed
And yet
I ended up where I belong
I love you, said the spider to the fly
The fly, paralyzed, offered no reply
Why yes
I'm a mess
And yet
I'm proud of the man I've become
Exhale
I failed
And yet
I ended up where I belong

Challenge: We started out using the concept of taking your mistakes and learning to make them part of your intentional self as the basis for these lyrics about all the mistakes one can make in a bad relationship and then coming out on the other side a better person. Production-wise, we incorporated a couple of other things: the main lead guitar has a CSIDMAN delay on it, which basically glitches uncontrollably, so it makes "mistakes" "intentionally", in a similar vein, that guitar also has a T-60 video tape modulator that also has the randomness turned up all the way. Both of these effects are not very high in the mix, keeping them "hidden" textures. More tangentially, although I did have a demo version of the music for Evermind to write lyrics to, final tracking of instruments was all done as single takes, and for the bass and guitars at least, they are all also first takes, so no covering up little mistakes was done for those tracks (vocals are another matter hahaha)
