Mottainai (What a waste!)

You know the right one
She comes and goes
You feel insightful
Suspended
Disbelief can cloud your mind

You had it coming, but you made excuses
Your mouth is running, and it got away
Who can you summon when you’re dreaming lucid
You tend to mumble everything you say

Fold it up
Hope that it’s not true
You’re thinking of
The worst that you could do

Not one for fighting
You’re on your toes
The fire’s igniting
And befriended
Disbelief can cloud your mind

With a minimum of introducing
You had an argument that you could sway
Never cared about the win or losing
You only wanted anyone to stay

Fold it up
Hope that it’s not true
You’re thinking of
The worst that you could do

gammammannn - Collided

STEVE is my term for Verses. Text in (these brackets) are the speaker.
LYRICS;
[[STEVE (New Horizons)]]
The humans back on earth
Started up my systems again
A single autumn leaf hits the ground

They've been tryna find you
On the edge of our universe
Humans want the information but so do I

[[STEVE 2 (Pluto)]]
My nitrogen heart is dimming ever dimmer every year
Its just- im just-
Waiting for a fairy to come by and say "hey dear" (H.N: ey, dear!)

Was that a little buUg? A little little fellah in my ear (N.H: hiii~)
Its just-
Perhaps our hearts can collide
And call you dear

[[DROP 1 (Pluto & New Horizons)]]
Since our fate collided ...

Dawwww Pluto...

[[STEVE (New Horizons)]]
Those humans wont believe i've fallen in love with a bear
I think I could make that lake a little brighter

Those humans back on earth dont understand you at all
They've been calling you a "dwarf planet", but I know better

[[STEVE 2 (Pluto)]]
Planetary dysphoria is slowly wearing thinner every year
I dont know how you got me feeling alive
Thats amazing, dear (N.H: no problem, dear!)

My nitrogen heart is lighting ever brighter as you drift by
Perhaps our hearts can collide,
Melt my oceans, dear...

[[DROP 2 (Pluto & New Horizons)]]
Since our fate collided ...

Dawwwww Horizons...

[[BRIDGE (New Horizons)]]
Humans tried to tell me I need to leave
Fulfil my duties and then proceed
But I dont wanna do that yet
I'd rather lie to them instead

[[BRIDGE (Pluto)]]
Soo you did;
Told the humans you're drifting away
Velocity stagnant and ▷ great
A love so warm its like the sun...

[[OUTRO (New Horizons)]]
With our love so deep it paints the grays
And in place we put
Vibrant blues and vivid jade

With our love so deep it fills your population with
Cockatoos and blue jays.

Song Bio. as is with any music theory challenge, i took the route of surrounding myself with the theory in question. in this case, this track uses secondary dominants everywhere in several different ways, and in doing so i learned a lot about what a secondary dominant means. here is a youtube video directly explaining my use of secondary dominants;
the only parts not mentioned in this video is the bridge and the outro, the bridge is much more complicated than the outro but you could probably just hear the secondary dominants there. if not, oh well. the outro has a secondary dominant in the form of a major II, its more lydian than secondary dominant but whatever.

as for what the song is about, i decided to write a love song this time around. i've mostly avoided writing love songs because i find a lot of them quite hard to listen to with all the innuendo and sexual content thrown in so... objectifyingly. this is majorly resonsible for why this song is not only mostly romance over sex, but also why this song is a relationship between the New Horizons space probe and Pluto, as opposed to... Steve and Jerry or something totally random like that.

when i was a little kid i remember playing Angry Birds Space and seeing a little icon somewhere on the main menu somewhere about New Horizons approaching pluto. i dont remember much but i remember silently rooting in my head for the little fellah. i also remember- though only vaguely- being happy once i saw the full pictures of pluto, and the fact that it had a heart for a frozen lake, though i didnt look into it further and was unaware it was made of frozen nitrogen.

of course with atleast some of this in my subconscious when i started writing this song, i decided to let my autism take full control. not only do i make mention of how small new horizons is plenty of times i also had to make sure it was very clear that Pluto is clearly a bear. i also decided to add some fiction into this by implying that New Horizons has been lying to humanity for the past decade or so and is actually still with Pluto, and in doing so has granted Pluto the gift of life. whether or not this is true or not i've decided that this is now how reality works

i hope you like it

Wendy Wiseman Fisher - Falls Red With You

V1
The barn doors groan, the rafters creak.
The pumpkins rot, the wrens, they fly.
The apple skins turn soft and weak.
The orchard moans into the night.

V2
The lantern swings, its smoke is gray.
The scarecrow's grin is torn.
The roots claw up from autumn clay.
The frost winds howl where you were sworn.

Chorus
On the equinox, the balance dies.
Your leaving splits the sun in two.
The autumn sky burns out its eyes
And every night falls red with you.

V3
The harvest moon drips red on stone.
The vines crawl tight around the gate.
The ravens gnaw the seeds you've sown.
The axis cracks beneath their weight.

V4
The church bell tolls, the shadows drown.
The maples bleed their leaves like flame.
The graveyard hums beneath the crown.
Your leaving carves the field with pain.

Bridge
You turn your back, the rafters shake.
Your boots grind into dust.
You swore it true, then chose to break
And left me stranded in the rust.

Chorus
Equinox, the balance dies.
Your leaving splits the sun two.
The autumn sky burns out its eyes
And every night falls red with you.

Equinox, the balance dies.
Your leaving splits my heart in two.
The autumn sky dries out my eyes
And autumn burns because of you, Boo.

We’re coming up on the autumn equinox in this hemisphere. If your beloved dumped you in a pumpkin patch on the equinox, it might feel like the sun itself is thrown off balance, and you might be angry and sad - but also, hey, it’s fall!

OutLyer - Dive In

(Would you stay? Stay with me?)
Broken panes of glass show a picture, I don’t want it
(Would you stay? Stay with me?)
Don’t know the body that I’m haunting
A thousand miles couldn’t walk it if I wanted
(Would you stay? Stay with me?)

Frighteningly fast, feared the future from the get go
Never got the message, take your time and just go slow
Watching everybody have the time of the lives so
I could have a view, or I could dive in

Life is too happy to miss
(Would you stay? Stay with me?)
Life has too much to give
(Would you stay? Stay with me?)
For you to squander it

David Taro - Something About Her

There’s something about her
I don’t know what it is
If I had to give an answer
It might go a bit like this
She’s a diamond in a hand of clubs
A chord not in the tonic key
There’s something about her
That just seems good to me

My friends think I’m crazy
To love her like I do
They can’t see what I see
All that misfit beauty shining through
A spoon of sugar in a world of salt
The secret in a mystery
There’s something about her
That just seems good to me

When everybody says you’re wrong
That’s when you know you’re right
So what else matters
She’s a place where I belong
Where everything feels alright
And nothing else matters

There’s something about her
I don’t know what it is
I’ve tried to live without her
But keep on coming back to this
She’s a diamond in a hand of clubs
A chord not in the tonic key
There’s something about her
That just seems good to me

There’s something about her
That just seems good to me

For reference, the song’s in C major, and here’s where I think/hope I’m using secondary dominants: 1) Verses… C7 > F major, D7 > G major, 2) Choruses… E7 > A minor. I’m not sure if this qualifies as ‘creative use’, but I was quietly pleased at being able to hit the ‘chord not in the tonic key’ in sync with the E7 in the chorus.

Hot Pink Halo - Borrowed Time

She
She tried
She tried to set herself free
No map to lead the way
Feeding an all consuming need

Plant me in the ink black soil
In the dark I’ll shine
Bathe me in your stained glass love
Watch me blossom as I climb
Wither in the sun
Revive with iron wine
Be careful not to turn to rust
We’re living on borrowed time

She
She tried
She tried to set herself free
Find a love to lead the way
Trapped by promises so sweet

Plant me in the ink black soil
In the dark I’ll shine
Bathe me in your stained glass love
Watch me blossom as I climb
Wither in the sun
Revive with iron wine
Be careful not to turn to rust
We’re living on borrowed time

She tried to set herself free
Rewrite the stories of the past
Plot a future
Learn to breathe

Plant me in the ink black soil
In the dark I’ll shine
Bathe me in your stained glass love
Watch me blossom as I climb
Wither in the sun
Revive with iron wine
Be careful not to turn to rust
We’re living on borrowed time

Technical details for the challenge.
My progression is:
Verses: F, Em, F, Am, G, F, G
Chorus: C, Cmaj7, C7, F, Fmaj7, F7, Bb, Am, A, Dm, G, C
Bridge: Em, F, G, A, Bdim

Details on the song itself:
Borrowing the word "borrowed" from the challenge title, I decided to write another song about a book I recently read. This one was V.E. Schwab's newest novel, 'Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil', which in her own words is the multi-century spanning story of three Toxic Lesbian Vampires™️ as they grow and find their place in the world.

I don't want to give too much away plot wise, but to steal directly from the back cover blurb:

"Three young women, their bodies planted in the same soil, their stories tangling like roots...

This is a story about hunger. 1532. Santo Domingo de la Calzada.

This is a story about love. 1827. London.

This is a story about rage. 2019. Boston.

This is a story about life. How it ends and how it starts again."

One of the themes that I took from the book is how being connected to others will help you retain your humanity, and how being literate can help you keep that connection and empathy for others.

SEE/MAN/SKI - Melton Mowbray

the gates of St Francis
is where your young can thrive
the nuns and the catholic
teachers will be their guide

waterfield leisure centre
just down Dalby Road
provides every member
with a healthy way to go

I'm from
Melton
Mowbray

if you're looking for something for the weekend
head on into to town
grab a coffee at 54a King Street
where you're never, met with a frown
there are plenty of fast food eateries
then grab a pint from the Anne of Cleeves

(oh melly mo) growing up, the cinema had seen better days
(oh melly mo) but now the fleapit is a much nicer place
(oh melly mo) the bell centre stayed the same
(oh melly mo) I guess some things never change

I'm from
Melton
Mowbray

when I turned 18
I made the choice to go
further North to Sheffield
And made that my new home

but my folks

there from
Melton

Good Guy Sôjàbé - Whatever, I’m Not Precious

Retreat into forever
There’s comfort there
Surrounded by effigies
In your hidden lair

You think sometimes it gets too much
This humankind
Is this what you dreamt of when you
Were younger?

And the sound you hear is just the echo of a collapsing heart
And the truth is that as time goes on this will just wear you out

You tell yourself that this is fine
Like it’s a choice
Not everyone gets what they want
You’ve lost your voice

You land on existence but aimed for life
Done all you can
Hard to accept it’s not “now”, it’s “never”.

And the sound you hear is just the echo of a collapsing heart
And the truth is that as time goes on this will just wear you out

We *think* this meets the challenge because the song is in the key of C, and the intro / verse chords are A Dm

The Pannacotta Army - Jean-Paul

Jean-Paul, Jean-Paul
Are you miserable
If hell is other people as you profess?
When you’re alone
Without Simone
Are you happiest with nothingness?

Blaming the bourgeoisie
That sounds too easy
Social convention won’t kill anyone
Can't let your guard slip
Lighten up a bit
Existentialists can still have fun

Smoking at your desk
Pondering self-consciousness
If there’s no god then what can I believe in?
Full ashtrays of Gauloises
Life without mauvaise foi
Everything’s wrapped up in big old theory of being

Jean-Paul, Jean-Paul
Intellectual
You know all there is about the mind
You’re smart, you’re wise
You philosophise
Casting your wandering eye on human kind

One day I’ll figure out
What you’re on about
when you say we’re condemned to be free
I must admit
I don’t get it
I go round in circles it's too complicated for me

The song is in the key of A major.
In the verse it first uses the secondary dominant of C#7 resolving to F#minor.
Immediately after this it also uses the secondary dominant of A7 resolving to D.

Huge Shark - Wanting a Letter

You were so much in your head
Nobody heard what you said
But if I just had a chance to understand

Whispers of history's grip
Locked in the science of slip
The pattern is in the gears you fill with sand

You didn't know that
You had the answer
You couldn't find it
(It's written on the inside where no one can convince you to see)

Waiting; the dawn is my cue
Wanting a letter from you
It's not in my power to be what you need

You didn't know that
You couldn't answer
I couldn't ask you
(And the murmuring took place in my head and in my bones)

The boat's standing by the shore and you're not getting in
The train's pulling up again and you're not getting in
My heart's cleaving, open door, and you're not getting in
And you can't hear me

Wanting a letter from you
Wanting a letter from you
Wanting a letter from you

Guest artist: Gary Gahan on saxophone

Song bio: The song is in the key of A minor. You'll hear a secondary dominant on the chorus (A7 -> D minor, which then moves on to A minor) and on the line "you can't hear me" (D7 -> G major, which then moves on to an A minor +2).

Boo Lee Crosser - As often as I’d like

(Verse 1)
Looking back on all the hard times
The memories still
Try to keep my chin up
As I play against the will
Of the old men in the corner
In their old Sunday suits
I chose to believe in them
What was I to do

(Chorus)
But every so often
You’ll find me
Sittin’ there at the bar
With a penance for
Playing my guitar
And every so often
I might dance like a little kid
With my hair everywhere
And my glasses gone crooked

(Verse 2)
I don’t do this all that often
And I’m kinda glad I don’t
It’s gets boring after the years
That you spend along the road
And the more times that you lose money
The more your passion goes
I’m glad to say my passion's still here but
Sadly I lost my throat

(Chorus)
And looking back on
All the hard times
The memories feel
Like a drunk as he’s passed out behind the wheel
So here’s to all my tattoos
On the balcony floor
Yeah I should’ve known better
But I knew I’d want more

(Refrain)
Yes there’s so many things that I want to say
If I only had the smoke
Oh but I was never
Meant to be this broke
And if there are Gods with silver beards
Then I’m catchin’ up to them
In effort to
Hopefully forgive

I wrote this song as a means of coming to terms with my relationship with music. I've been playing for a long time and I feel tired. I'm still happy to play as often as I'd like. I just don't have the same affinity for playing out like I used to. I'm more partial to playing in my duplex with my family. Thanks for your consideration

Governing Dynamics - Demolisher

Verse1:
I took a walk and gave a talk
The natives have gone feral
Won't comprehend, refuse to bend
An ignorance inviting peril

They hold me to the fire
I put them on a public trial
I pick the jury
Nothing sticks, there’s plausible denial

Prechorus1:
But come on, play along
Or be afraid and shun me
I know you've got the time
And babies guess who's got the money

Chorus1:
Demolisher
I'm your demolisher
Your demolisher
But all in the name of love

Verse2:
Wanna step in my ring
Know the path before you walk it
Got a king up my sleeve
And my hands are in his pockets

Prechorus2:
Go on, hallucinate
You're winning by defiance
Go on, elucidate
You're swinging on some giants

Chorus2:
Demolisher
i'm your demolisher
I'm your demolisher
But all in the name of love
Demolisher
I'm your demolisher
Yeah your demolisher
Raining truth down from high above

Bridge:
Go on and take me at my word
I see your foundations shaking
Lines are better off blurred
(When it suits the point I'm making)
Am I making you cry?
Can’t make out a word that you say
You’ll never prove me wrong
I always planned it that way

Chorus3:
Demolisher
I'm your demolisher
I'm your demolisher
But all in the name of love
Demolisher
I'm your demolisher
Yeah your demolisher
Raining truth down from high above

Outrochorus:
If you come for the king
Best prepare for anything
Are you listening?
Yeah I’m not listening.
If you come come for the king
Best prepare for anything
Well that's a pretty mean swing
That's a pretty mean--

Secondary dominant notes:

The song is in E major and main recurring chord progression is E A G#7 C#m - Played a fair amount of the time with power chords, but played often enough with all those 3s and 7s as well. G#7 to C#m is the secondary/resolution chord change.

In the bridge, the chord progression goes
E E7 A Am F#sus4 F# B B7 (and then G#7 the second time through) -- the E7 to A and F# B are also secondary dominants in this case.

This Big Old Endless Sky - Sunshine / Abyss

tell me everything you wanted
there's no thing I'll guarantee
I am somewhere in between your deepest sorrow / your happiness
between the sunshine and the abyss

tell me am I'm being stupid?
is there another way to be?
I am something in between a very useful engine / a fucking mess
between the sunshine and the abyss

give in to hope
give in to trust
maybe just give up
or maybe you could give a fuck

yeah, yeah, yeah

hell is every other person
hell is all my mirror sees
I am only noise between the final heat death / the genesis
between the sunshine and the abyss
between the sunshine and the abyss
between the sunshine and the abyss

Challenge Notes: The song is in E. The secondary dominant (according to my reading of Micah's guide) is F# / F#7. The bridge of this song (give in/give up) hits that secondary dominant, and resolves to B, as it should.

The song itself: mostly just an internal monologue, with rhymes.

chewmeupspitmeout - the house i build wouldn't hold

I built my house on stolen sands
Dug foundations on borrowed land
I made plans in someone's grief
Mistook their silence for belief

The brittle rafters soon fell down
Splintered beams they struck the ground
Ruined walls eroded by time

I thought myself brave
I thought myself strong
With a compulsion to carry on
But I was weak
Like the mortar I used
To bind the bricks of my hollow tomb

The structure of our love is left
Abandoned to the elements
Buffeted by the wind and rain

Imagined Xanadu was just
A proposed edifice for you
I honestly never meant to tear it down

The house I built
It wouldn't hold
The house I built
It wouldn't hold
The house I built
It wouldn't hold
The house I built
It wouldn't hold

Jealous Brother - Under the Waves

The sugar covered up the pond
So we just marched around
Sketching out our history
We're sinking down, you and me

Chords hit the beach in our town
Making an unfamiliar sound
They're still moving under ground
And so we tune our guitars down

You don't have to use them
Stay up here and get a tan
You can run away from anyone
Get as far away from here as you can

And so we write out our stories
Before we lose these memories
Moving toward our final days
So may we go under the waves

One boat it crashes to the sand
The other one waits for the wind
Pages glued onto the skin
Covered up once again
Either way she'll sing a song you love

You don't have to use them
Stay up here and get a tan
You can run away from anyone
Get as far away from here as you can

Either way she'll sing a song you love
Either way she'll sing a song you love

The Alleviators - A Start

And there it is,
Blink and you’ll miss
A spark and a glimpse
And you catch me off guard

And I’ve always been
Too scared of my own skin
To give in to my heart

Not like I haven’t tried
All these love songs
That I lied to write
And nothing’s worked so far
But it’s a start

I know we just met
And it’s arrogant
To lay this out
As if I could ever read minds

You cry for affection
And plead missed connection
So i’ll ask the question
If you give me a sign

My heart in my hand while you fidget
Hardening fast by the minute
And maybe it all falls apart

I’m still willing to

Start and see
And start over if that’s what it takes
The way you look at me
Suddenly I’m not afraid
To make my own mistakes

I’m not saying you’re–
I’m sorry I’m–
Not good a this part
The briefest of touch, it isn’t that much

Oh but it’s a start
It’s a start
credits

Secondary dominant notes:

We're in G Major. The "A" sections contain an A7 that is used to transition to D to start the "B" sections. B sections contain a B7 that resolves to Em. Finally the C section also starts with the B7 to Em chord change and then contains a G7to C (around the line "start over if that's what it takes").

☀️bucket - Shoot Me

If you thrive off of arguments you know I got some
I'll tell you your cherished ideals are dumb
I'm truly the worst, I'm the villain I'm scum
But how is that adequate justification to
grab your bolt action rifle and shoot me dead

Go ahead go ahead and shoot me
Go ahead go ahead and shoot me
Go ahead go ahead and shoot me
Go ahead go ahead and shoot me

You detest what I stand for and you have all along
And you know that I'm just so horribly wrong
And you know that I'll never admit that I'm wrong
And I bet that just drives you so crazy you would
climb up the roof of the nearest building and shoot me dead

Go ahead go ahead and shoot me
Go ahead go ahead and shoot me
Go ahead go ahead and shoot me
You said that somebody should shoot me

It seems I provoke a reaction by saying that
I live my life in the most biblical way
And I'll tell you that day after day after day
And so all of these godawful things that I say
make you wish you could take aim and fire and shoot me dead

Go ahead go ahead and shoot me
Go ahead go ahead and shoot me
Go ahead go ahead and shoot me
Reddit said it was cool to shoot me

Sticks and stones may break my bones but words are literally violence
If you follow that thought to its logical conclusion then a bullet is a fair trade for silence
You'll make memes of the day that you hear of my death
You'll make memes of the day that I take my last breath
Cause hooray, what a day! What a glorious thing!
No it's not, that's disgusting, why are you celebrating?
MURDER IS WRONG

Go ahead go ahead and shoot me
Go ahead go ahead and shoot me
Go ahead go ahead and shoot me
You said someone oughta shoot me

Bob Voyg - The Navigator

I’m running out of life
I’ve got a hard deadline
but I’m not afraid of being lost in time

I traded my self for sight
folding and unfolding light
i’m not alone they’re always in my mind

stars are singing
endless, kind
i dissolve
patterns taking flight
what i lose
is what i give
what i lose
is what i give
to you

you speak in your easy tones
your laughter builds my home
i no longer stand at the edge - a shadow

stars are singing
endless, kind
i dissolve
patterns taking flight
what i lose
is what i give
what i lose
is what i give
to you

there’s no way out
i can’t let it go, this cure
there’s no way out
there’s no way out

About the challenge: The song is in F, and Micah's chart says that a suitable secondary dominant is A / A7, resolving to Dm, which is what happens in the verses.

About the song: Crumpet said "just write about the last book you read". I am reading 'The long road to a small angry planet' by Becky Chambers. Without wanting to spoilerise the novel, this is a song about Ohan, the Navigator.

Möbius Strip Club - It Feels So Good

It feels so good
It feels so good
It feels so good to be loved

It feels so good to be loved
It feels so good to be loved
It feels so good to be loved
By you

Your hand in mine is a summer breeze
The sight of your smile weakens my knees
I feel such relief when you hold me tight
Cuddling close to get through the night

It feels so good to be loved
It feels so good to be loved
It feels so good to be loved
By you

Your eyes reveal your gentle soul
A beautiful sight, and so wonderful
Funny and kind, strong and smart
I’ve finally found a safe place for my heart

It feels so good to be loved
It feels so good to be loved
It feels so good to be loved
By you

It feels like the cherry on a hot fudge sundae
Crunchy leaves on a brisk autumn day
Blankets and cocoa, wild flowers in the spring
The perfect harmony that you and I sing
It feels so good to be loved
It feels so good to be loved
It feels so good to be loved
By you

On the first morning of the challenge drop, there was an extensive conversation about what make a secondary dominant and whether they could be done in modal music as opposed to tonal music. Cybronica chimed in commenting that SD’s don't exist in modal music, and commiserated that sometimes writing to a prompt doesn't let you use what you really want, like a iii chord.
…But then they thought of using the iii as a vi/V and wrote out a way to do that using a deceptive cadence in V. That progression on the discord discussion ended up being the seed for the bridge, and from there the deceptive cadence became an important element in the musical structure, finding its way into the choruses as well.

The secondary dominant is in the tonicization of V in the bridge, and a much shorter version is in the verses just to be safe. All the chords used were dictated by what could be played on the autoharp Cybro picked up at the renn faire a couple years ago. The chord progressions are below for those wishing to apply further scrutiny.

Bridge
V V/V IV/V vi/V V V/V vi/V IV/V V/V V7/V vi/V
V/V V7/V V V/V IV I I iv IV I V7 IV

Verse:
V I V I V/V V V7 I

Ok, we're sorry, but we're not sorry about how cheesy this love song is. It is unfortunately based on actual feelings. Miscalcul8 verbatim said “It feels so good to be loved by you” to Cybronica and we knew it was only the beginning of the ooey gooey mess. You're welcome I guess.

Sober - I Didn’t Leave Texas

On the wall of my workshop
Hangs my old Texas plates
I’m planing and sawing
Beneath the Lone Star State

But I left it behind and I’d do it again
Trade the devil I know for someplace I’d never been
Don’t tell me that I or my lady’s to blame
When it seems since we left it’s all gone up in flames

I didn’t leave Texas
Texas left me
Don’t give me them lines
About the changing of times
Or how things used to be

So it’s weddings and funerals
That’s all I can see / Or one hell of a fee
That’ll have me consider
Crossin the Red River
And that’s alright with me

So come on and join us
Surely you’ll find
It’s worth all the pain
Of breaking the chain
To leave it behind

All the magic and charm
It’s no longer there
From Lubbock to Austin
It’s all billionaires

Big cast iron stars on McMansion facades
Burn your kids on the altar of white boomer gods
I had to get out before I got fully stuck
Like an old set of bull horns on a cybertruck

More material to bolster my "inverse Slaid Cleaves" mystique

Flintsteel - Last of Your Name

last in your line, heroes
born to protect all
what's the result? eons
watching your brothers fall

why should you deign to aid them?
decrepit oaths sworn?
all you receive will be
nothing in turn but their scorn

you spent your life in service
everything you've known
what's your reward? purpose?
duty to them? no.

all that you give, boundless
still you're denied home
a token remembrance
hewn into forgotten stone

fly
from the shadow of legacy cast
last of your name

trade your honor for this vengeance
spread the wicked flame

draw your blade
let the hatred inside
take it's final claim

send this world to ashes and then
finally, a fitting end
cleansed by the fire

boy i hope i did this right... dominant second chord movement should be in the verse as it transitions to the heavy section (F#7 resolves to B)

conceptually the song isn't based on anything in particular this time, just a short fiction of a fallen god-protector's inner monologue
