yea i thought it was great... it was a wild way to show how superficial everyone is... in such a small way... and show what you are missin' by bein' that way...

i thought it had a great storyline and message... one of the few movies i've ever seen in theatre... i regret seein' it with this girl and her friends... they fuckin' pissed me off so bad through the whole movie... makin' snide comments and shit... fuckin' embarassing

anyways haha... great movie

I saw it on yesterday also, but I didn't catch most of it. I suppose I should watch movies sometimes.

I became friends with Liam after the first two Sifl and Olly conventions, and he was talking about how a Tenacious D movie was in the works. This is nice to see some other facts about it though.

At the second convention he was even talking about a show called Clone High (that wasn't out at the time.) Lo and behold it was on MTV quite a few months later. He did some of the songs for that show (such as the Marilyn Manson food pyramind song).

EDIT: fodroy, you are a psychic.

ROCK!

I give Shallow Hal a 'D'

It wasn't really funny, and I really don't like Jack Black that much.

Gwennith Paltrow is as hot as I've ever seen her in this movie, though. Much better than in Shakespeare in Love.

Yeah, I didn't care for this movie either. Jack Black (and Jason Alexander) not used effectively. Gwyneth Paltrow turns in another wooden, emotionless performance. I could buy into the whole "Tony Robbins hypnotized me" but not the "Tony Robbins gave my friend the power to unhypnotize based on circumstantial evidence."

Jason Alexander: "BUT YOU HAVE TO DO IT!"

Tony Robbins: "Why?"

Jason Alexander: "TO ADVANCE THE PLOT"

The whole time I was like, "Okay, okay, I get it, unattractive people are ALL nice, and attractive people are ALL assholes. I will sign a statement to that effect on the way out of the theater." I thought it was weird for them to make a film supposed to be about how looks are unimportant, and then cast a lead actress who's so skinny they have to photoshop her a decent ass in the movie poster.

Not a bad movie, but not great.

2 big pluses for it though - Jason Alexander's curly tail was hilarious and it's the only movie I've ever seen which features the nation of Kiribati as a significant part of the plot. (I lived in Kiribati for two years and most people have never heard of it - although in the movie they talk of (i think) "...150 000 people starving in Kiribati...", but Kiribati only has a population of 70 000...poor research)

Plus there's the whole hyptnotize-somebody-so-they-can-see-people's-inner-natures thing.

But I can see why the population of Kiribati would feel slighted.

yea i can see how someone could not like the movie...

but the idea that he was seein' an outer image of how beautiful a person was from the inside... instead of how they really look on the outside... it wouldn't have made any sense at all... to find an ugly actress to play her... it's just a thought...

I didn't say get an ugly actress to play the lead role, that indeed would make no sense.

I liked how they kept throwing characterts in the movie that you thought were a certain way and only later discovered that you were seeing them through Jack Black's hypnotized eyes, so you met them how they really were first, and saw what they really looked like only later.

But I wish they had thrown in some people who looked good AND were nice or the other way around - would have given the movie more cred.

Caravan Ray: You should read Ben Bova's "Moonrise" and "Moonwar", both of those books place Kiribati as like about the most important place in the world. (Plus, they're cool books.)

both the neighbor girl... and the girl that came up on the bike... were both hot... and were hot even through his eyes (as i noticed)...

so i guess you could take them as bein' the same inside and out?
