Saturday afternoon busk session

Post by jack »

I think it would be cool to do a saturday afternoon busk session on Pacific avenue, the main drag in downtown santa cruz. It would be fun, if enough people showed up there would be a built in audience, downtown gets tons of people on a nice summer saturday afternoon, and it would drum up interest in the show. people can hand out their own CDs, etc. it would be better to keep it unamplified, but downtown is pretty street performer friendly, and there are some dreadful, terrible guitarists busking downtown almost every night in the summer, so i'm confident that a songfight delegation would be representin!

so if anyones interested, post here. build critical mass. saturday afternoon.

That sounds like a cool idea. In Boston there was an afternoon "unplugged" set with a venue, but you could set up the same kind of set and just have it on the avenue.

I wouldn't want the busking thing to be someone's set(or a set option). I was first at the afternoon set in Boston, and however awesome it is to play more unplugged rather than on "stage", some people weren't there(oversleeping, getting lost, too tired from the night before) and it didn't get recorded. It was a little sucky. And I'm sure there's too many things for us to see and be distracted by on the street if it was someone's set.

Just having it is as an option and a 'jam'/hang out place would be better, imho. But whatever. I don't mind too much. :)

yeah, i wasn't thinking of using this idea as a "set" option, but more as a fun to do kind of thing, which might also drum up interest in the show that night.

i figure some people will want to rehearse/practice that afternoon, but alternatively, people not rehearsing could busk, or people that played the night before and don't need to rehearse saturday afternoon. plus, downtown is a 5 minute walk from my house, which i assume people will be rehearsing at on saturday afternoon.

so no, i wouldn't want to use this idea to fill out sets. more a bonus. :)

I could totally see a return of the EIEBC streetside.

Also there's a bunch of my songs that I don't want to play in my set but which are fun to do acoustically. Like "Let's Get Naked," and "Chucky (he's so gay)."

So, yes, I'm all for this. :D
