Hey everyone,
I had a pretty severe computer crash a few weeks ago involving massive failure on multiple fronts, so I decided it would be cheaper to replace it completely than to repair it. Then, thanks to some prodding and leading by example on the part of my roommate, I decided that I might improve my performance and longevity by using Ubuntu Linux.
I'm dual-booting right now, so I still have access to Windows software, but I was wondering if anyone here had any experience with multitrack recording in Linux? A quick browse on the 'net revealed a few names, but no reliable info. Ardour seems to be pretty popular, and I notice that Audacity has a Linux version.
Is anyone here familiar with either of these programs in Linux, or any others? Care to offer some wisdom from experience? I'd be grateful.

I don't have any first-hand experience. I know someone who I consider to be fairly knowledgable who uses Linux as his only platform for everything, including multi-track audio. He uses Ardour, and he also recommends the Planet CCRMA Linux distro:

Old thread come alive!!! I figured I do a search before posting a new one and found this.
I've been playing around with Ubuntu and really like it, and there's a 'Studio' branch which (I think) installs Ardour and Rosegarden and is tuned for low latency. Problem is, Ardour is a sledgehammer, where I just use a stapler (Tracktion). I'd definitely look into it more if I had a real studio.
