The Ultimate Songfight Playlist

Post by sparks »

Looks like I'm going to be hosting a weekly hour on our college station (WMBC, AM560 in Baltimore and the county), so I'd like to make a call to all fighters, posters, lurkers and otherwise:

What are your all-time top ten picks from the archives? A top ten from a bunch of you-alls will help me find some picks from MODERN fights that might rock, but which I've neglected for the past year or two just as I have so shamefully neglected all of you.

Should SF get a promo? Because I want to advertise it, if you guys aren't still concerned with over-submission issues. This is the University of Maryland Baltimore County station, not the UMCP (UM) station, so we're only talking what, 15,000 students total, approximately two of whom actually listen to the unviersity station, so there's not exactly the kind of worry we had when, say, we heard we were in Spin.

MCF, Frankie, JB, and all the other bigwigs are already very likely picks, so if you recommend something of theirs, lean toward the newer material that I may not (again, shamefully) have heard.

If any of you local folk want to listen in, we're not on the air yet, but will be within a couple of weeks, probably in the Tuesday 3-4pm spot; working show title is "Auntie's Operation". Yes, there is a webcast (http://broadcast.umbc.edu:8000/wmbc-hifi), yes, the station is quite tolerable even when my lovely vox aren't on the air. So come on, kids, bring on the lists.

Hey, that rocks, i live only about 15min away from UMBC!
Funny thing is, I had decided on Monday to make a "best-of" songfight CD-length tracklist and am still working on it.
I'll post them as soon as it's ready, but it'll have more than 10 tracks.

What do you mean by modern?

Here are some of my faves:

MC Frontalot: Yellow Lasers (especially b/c it spawned a genre), A Very Unlikely Occurrence
Starfinger: More Than Soup
Josh Woodward: Waiting Takes Time
Johnny Cashpoint: Don't Forget to Come Over on Wednesday
Henrietta & the Hostage: Blueberry Hassle (but with new lyrics)
Def Author: Say the Word
There's more, but I can't think of them off the top of my head.

And of course, all of mine, because you be drawn to my shipple like a nipple. Holla.

Too damn hard, man. So, instead, who I voted for in some of my favourite fights

1. So Kind Stacey - Hell Yeahs
2. Adam & Steve - A-Bomb

And after that in no particular order ....

3. Roymond - hey Ruth
4. Doscientos - Thanks for Coming
5. Masters of Grip - Quentin Tarantino
6. King Arthur - Lavendor Splendour (any KA will do really. He should be in there)
7. Jack Shite - Under the Wagon
8. Jute Gyte - Can't Take My Love Away
9. Frankie Big Face - Half a Stone
10. Hoblit - A Spring of Teal

There as so many, but I am drunk (enough to get my band/song order mixed up, and not to fix it)

Basically.

I mostly said that out of fear I'd only see people posting stuff I already knew to rock. Fortunately, this has not been the case, and my listening is all laid out for me.

'Cept for bortwein, I'm ignoring that post. :)

That is funny--and that means there's an off chance the station might even come in.

Though webcasts are more convenient for me usually, anyway, when I'm not in the car.

I couldn't agree more about CCS. The production quality amazes me, and that's perhaps only the shallowest compliment I can give him--totally great.

It seems I haven't just missed poorly orchestrated power-chord songs from bands with names like "Dunder-X 4000" and "Footforte Spectactular All Star Team" and "Horganborganjorganjorgan" and "Silly Threeword Indiename".

Sorry, that didn't make much sense. I'm a little sloshy at only 11am and very much ashamed. Still, fixing it to be funny would be difficult.

Perhaps you could include some of that much-ballyhooed "APARTMENT ROCK."

Oh, wait.

I am flattered.
