I Miss Song Fight
Just thought I'd say that. I've got several reasons why I miss it. Some of them are my own damn fault. Some of them are Songfight's fault. But most of them are my fault.
I think about SF every day. I want to enter every single fight. Shit, I want to LISTEN to every fight. But I've got this whole fucking life going on and while it's way less fun, there are bunches of people depending on me spending my time in their service (customers, bosses, wives, daughters, creditors, etc....)
It sucks.
So, to any of you who are not yet butr are considering it, let me offer some sage advice from the other side: Don't get responsible. Responsibility is lame.
The most depressing part of this already depressing amil: Many of you reading this don't even know who I am.

Re: I Miss Song Fight
Jim I'm in the same boat but I don't think it sucks at all. Yeah it would be nice to have more time and energy to school these kids on songwriting and playing week in and week out...but why?Jim of Seattle wrote:I've got this whole fucking life going on and while it's way less fun, there are bunches of people depending on me spending my time in their service (customers, bosses, wives, daughters, creditors, etc....)

The future is secure. Some of these young guns are quite talented and need little guidance. No matter what you contribute, you'll always have to sift through the pile to find the gems. So contribute the gems when you can and enjoy the gems when you can't.
And add/enjoy the advice, and the reviews and the rest of it as well, whatever you feel like you are or aren't contributing.
In the end I'm not going to apologize, make excuses, or worry about my choice to choose my family and my LIFE over SongFight, regardless of how important the latter may be to me. Sure I envy those who have the luxury to focus on it more than I can, but I don't begrudge them anything at all, and I'm sure you don't either.
I do what I can, and I won't feel guilty or sorry for what that is or isn't.

Obviously I have my priorities. Just sometimes I wish it were "and" instead of "or".
Last time I have a couple glasses of shiraz before opening IE. Sheesh.

Well that's just flat out pushing it there Luke.WeaselSlayer wrote:Ok, fifth.

I'm sure there will be more Dan-O entries at some point, I'm not happy with my output either. That's kind of the point Jim and I were making, not being happy about the lack of participation. My point was not letting it bother me though, because I'm OK with the distractions that get in the way at times and obviously Jim is as well. He just didn't word his original statement very well, or not well enough to prevent the piling on.
However, I've always said that I prefer quality over quantity and when given an extended timeline (e.g. sidefights) I think I've produced some fairly good entries, and a pretty decent number of them.

Yes, it's a drag that we don't all have time for everything we might want to have time for.
I think it's a little funny that someone who was so concerned about his daughter seeing bad words on the internets (and song fight particularly) should swear so much in this post though! Sincerely though I wish no ill will to you, Jim, and it is unfortunate that someone with a stated passion for the site is unable to spend much time with it.

Jim - ditto. Less the naughty words, of course. Plus a few other naughty words. I'm hoping it changes a bit after the new year and I can get a couple new songs out. I am spending any time I have (very little, apparently) trying to finish up some old, non-SF songs.

I wish I was here more often too. I had the spark of an idea for Dude and Catastrophe, but never got a chance to develop it.
I also wish I had a bottle of Shiraz. Well, it's 6:30am now, but I'd save it for tonight. At Thanksgiving we had a bottle of Yellow Tail, and it was worth all of the seven bucks I paid for it, but no more.

I keep wishing the pharmaceutical companies would find a way to sell extra time in pill form. I would love that. My other wish is that I could somehow have two bodies but one consciousness. I would get SO much done!Jim of Seattle wrote:Obviously I have my priorities. Just sometimes I wish it were "and" instead of "or".

I have like six bodies, but I keep them all mainly unconscious. The screaming gets annoying after a while.Gemini6Ice wrote: I keep wishing the pharmaceutical companies would find a way to sell extra time in pill form. I would love that.
