Blegh, Monday. It turned out to be a pretty good weekend. Shows Phil and I watched or caught up on this weekend:

Trailer Park Boys
The Office
30 Rock
Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Good Job
How it's Made
Myth Busters
and more that I can't remember.

I get to wear a brand new outfit to work today. We get to dress casual all week except for Wednesday. This week is "Spirit Week" but Wednesday is the annual Shareholders/All Employee meeting, so we have to dress up. Cool thing is we get to walk down to Hennepin and go to the Pantages Theater for this big wig meeting. Friday closes out "Spirit Week" with a walk to Nicollet Island for the company picnic.

Speaking of work, I should stop sitting around posting here and get ready!

-Show those nay sayers what's what, post in the Roll Call thread!

***Question of the Day***
How many different cities/towns have you lived in from birth until now? Just the number, but if you want to list the places, please do!

I have lived in 11 different places

Seattle, WA
Granada Hills, CA
Simi Valley, CA
Oxford, UK
Santa Cruz, CA
Columbia Heights, MN

These are the ones I can remember.

Danvers, MA
Georgetown, MA
Holderness, NH
Spokane, WA
Worcester, MA
Ashburnham, MA
Westminster, MA
Campton, NH

As for today: Spiting Rone, mostly. :D No seriously, it's back to work. Tonight I'll probably lay low, as I have three shows coming up later in the week. I'll just change some strings and tinker with the next Nur Ein entry, I think. Unless the pull of the Wii is too strong. Man, that sounded dirty.

Dudes:

Heather went grocery shopping yesterday, and bought me a giant "I love you this much" steak. It was FAB.

I made pasta for a side:
Penne
Butter, garlic, celery, carrot
little bit of cream cheese
spritz of lime
sneeze of fennel

Delish!

All the couch cushions are piled on the floor, with a white blanket over it. It's a snowy mountain. Kids & monster trucks are tumbling down it. My guess: This will last all day.

Coon Rapids, MN
Blaine, MN
Columbia Heights, MN x 5 or 6
"Northern" MN
Columbia Heights, MN
South Minneapolis, MN
Santa Cruz, CA (the bad part)
INITIATE OVERLAP
Santa Cruz, CA
Columbia Heights, MN
South Minneapolis, MN (LynLake - Uptown)
Northridge, CA
NE Minneapolis, MN
Saint Paul, MN

I watched a couple Sara Silvermans while H-boz was shoppin' yesterday, and some Zach Galifinakis stuff before bed. Also listened to some Patton Oswalt & Brian Posehn. It was the weekend of a thousand yuks.

Broke the lawn mower.

Butt-Leg status: 60% functional!

Dude, Fodroy, good luck in Thailand! Durian every day!

The first Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends movie is on. That + breakfast, songwork, popcast, comic, and so on.

AND SO ON!

Rochester, New York
Victor, New York
Topanga, California
Santa Monica, California
North Las Vegas, Nevada
Las Vegas, Nevada
Castro Valley, California
Berkeley, California
Santa Clara, California
Tempe, Arizona
Phoenix, Arizona

...which pretty much collapses into five places: New York state, L.A., Las Vegas, S.F. Bay Area, and Phoenix. Berkeley was the first place I lived "on my own" and was probably the best of the bunch... had an apartment on Francisco St. just south of Shattuck from '76 - '82...

So far today: dogs walked and fed (all done with pills for the time being). Fiddled around on the computer trying to construct a system for home menu planning / shopping / receipe management. Insanely more complicated than it oughta be. Met a friend at the Coffee Plantation to discuss some changes he needs in a PowerPoint presentation (he teaches bicycle safety classes, and I'm his designated .ppt guru). Quick stop at the grocery store for a few things for my mom's house; dropped them off but didn't hang around. Went by the church to pick up the guitar and bass and sermon tape, stopped in at our photo lab (at the church) and printed out a poster with pictures from the Missions folks' last trip down to Mexico for Children's Day.

Couple of hours to poke at stuff here at home before heading off to Sound Design class - last meeting is today and we'll just be looking at each others' projects. Back home, figure out what to do for dinner and then "24" tonight. Maybe a few more errands and to-dos during the day... oh, yeah, the wife has been telling me I really need to get my hair cut, so I want to shoot a few timer self-portraits today while it's still long and shaggy.

I guess I didn't make Niv's List when I posted about my birthday a year ago, so... try, try again. Who'da thought this guy:

would grow up to be... uhh, 55???

It's more fun to list the places...

London, Ontario, Canada 1971-1972
Notsure, Ont. 1973- 1974
Guelph, Ont. 1974- 1976
Waterloo, Ont. 1976- 1980
Cambridge, Ont. 1980-1987
Puslinch, Ont. 1987-1991
Sydney, Australia Jan 1991 - June 1991
Puslinch, Ont. June 1991- Aug. 1991
Etobicoke, Ont. Sept. 1991- May 1992
Quadra Island, British Columbia, Canada May 1993- Aug 1993
Etobicoke, Ont. Sept. 1993- May 1994
Quadra Island, B.C. May, 1994 - Aug. 1994
Campbell River, B.C. Sept. 1994 - Nov. 1994
Quadra Island, B.C. December, 1994- Sept. 2005
Campbell River, B.C. Oct. 2005- Present

Today is catch up and organize day. On the weekend we did the funeral Pyre thing... pretty cool. We built it on the beach, about 6 feet tall, six feet long and 4 feet wide. Went up fast, burned for an hour and a half. I put a few guitar picks in the box with Joe's ashes, we put in letters, tobacco, a few buds, other items people thought he'd like. I touched the ashes, felt some bone. It was... strangely relieving. A lot of people don't seem to realize (in my work life anyway) what a flake I am when it comes to things like this...or is that spiritual? Whatever. When I touched them, I felt like I was having an acid flashback. I got light headed, I felt... like a weight lifted. Even if I just "did it to myself" (which is irrelevant to the experience) I certainly realized that I was hanging on to the guy more than I thought. I mean, I'll talk to him on the way home from work on occasion. So, it felt good to let go of the bad parts, and keep the good.

My gig on Saturday night sucked. BOOORRRRRIIIINNNGGGG. Gigs that feel like work should pay twice as much more...like danger pay, only boredom pay. We played decent enough though.

finally, I took my kids to the "fair" yesterday. This is one of those traveling rides and crap games things. I told my kids, "you know why they call it the fair? Because it's unreasonable". I managed to keep it under $60 which involved alot of two letters... "n" and "o".
the carnies were total dinks. ONE person was pleasant to the kids... I mean, fer your deities sake, you're supposed to be entertaining kids. I so did not want to go, neither did my wife, but we ended up having a good time...making fun of the dicks running the rides. So we all had fun.

Today has been an odd one so far. M is dreadfully ill so I stay home from work to take care of him. (M is my younger son for those who don't know and yes he has a full name. I just happen to call him "M") I call about his doctor and they tell me to come in right away. This would be good if I didn't live 3 cities away. So the rush is on. The rush starts at 9. The doctor expects us around 10-10:30. After a series of mishaps, arrival is at 1. By that time, M is an unconsolable mess. And it's only made worth when we learn M is gonna need some serious meds and some surgery (Nothing too bad, folks but still annoying).

Now that I'm back, I'm finally getting to relax. It's my friend Hussy's birthday. I plan to pester her as only I can. Then enjoy the rest of my day and see if I can record a song today featuring my new bass. That is if I can pull myself away from watching Heroes.

CLEARLY I need to move more!

Wilmette, IL
Evanston, IL
Middletown, CT
Portland, OR

Honestly, it is hard to muster up enough escape velocity to exit Portland's gravitational field.

Places I would like to move TO:

Vancouver, BC

If I ever make it overseas again that list will likely grow.

Today I rode my bike to work. I like riding the bike, but the motivation to pull the beastie out of winter retirement came from having my purse stolen, and with it my bus pass. My company's agreement with the local transit authority wont be renewed until August... so until then it's the bike for me.

Today I got to ride the SPACEPOD up to the upper campus to get a new work key. I actually get to ride the spacepod at least once a week. It's pretty rad for a 50 million dollar widget:

Lessee.. saturday i went to san jose to pick up my sweeeeet new 60's heathkit oscilloscope, then dicked around with it for a couple of hours before the Cinco De Mayo party on Sat night, which involved outdrinking the entire rest of the party on tequila shots, STILL kicking everyone's ass at poker, and enjoying some fine boxing action.

yesterday, woke up at 9, hydrated, back to bed till 11:30. hit up radio shack and some bubble tea, then started work fixing up the bass driver pedal i made for steve, resoldered most of it and then put a 9 volt wall wart receiver in it. then worked on chad's copy of the same pedal, just got it laid out and soldered. theeeen messed around with getting a dual op-amp buffer going to add to chad's.

also, watched some basketball and made up a batch of roasted garlic for the week, and some garlic habanero pickled carrots chillin in the fridge and made dinner for the kids.

also caught and released (forcibly released, it was fuckin mean) a giant-ass skink.

and took percy for a long walk, altho it backfired because he passed out as soon as we got home and then woke us up at 430 wanting to play.

today... well, i'm at work, staring down a giant rewrite of some garbagy crap i have no interest in. :D

I've only lived in two places:
Hertfordshire (that blob above London where all the commuters live)
Durham (that blob underneath Scotland, when I was a lazy student)

Today was a bank holiday in Britain, the last I think until September. Not quite on a par with presidents day, veterans day, invasion of iraq day etc. etc.

I slept muchly.

So my DJ set Saturday went down a STORM. No, really, it's a bit creepy but even if I say so myself it could not really have gone down much better and as a result i have another booking at the end of this month too. I have been missing my calling up until now, apparently! My set-list was a little 80s orientated, but it was a civil partnership for a couple of mid-30s gayers ....

1. Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor - artic monkeys
2.Sympathy For The Devil - rolling stones
3.Be My Baby - ronettes
4.Blue Monday- new order
5.Teenage Kicks -undertones
6.Wordy Rappinghood - tom tom club
7.Sweet Dreams - eurythmics
8.Babooshka - kate bush
9.Together In Electric Dreams - oakey & moroder
10. You & Me Song - wannadies
11. Alright - supergrass
12. I Heard Thru' the Bassvine - slits
13. Gangsters - specials
14, Whip It - Devo
15. Let's Make Love & Listen to death from above - CSS
16,Do It Do It Again - Rafaella Cara
17. The Snake - Al Wilson
18. Hit Me With Yr Rthyhm Stick - Ian Dury

I would have played but time ran out:
19. The Model - Kraftwerk
20. River Deep Mountain High -Tina Turner

If you ever DJ, play Moroder & Oakey, I can not stress how unexpectedly popular this song was. People RAN onto the dancefloor to have a boogie to that ....

Also, go partake in SUK it's a bit like songfight only less often, more british, and with extra titles. Rawk.

finished my Nur Ein entry last night.

good call on tom tom club. I might've gone with Age of Consent or Ceremony from New Order, myself. shame about no time for Kraftwerk. CSS is also great. good work, j$
