Good Morning everyone!

I took the bus to work today, so I was up at 4:30 am. Ugh, I'm tired, but happy. Not much went on with me last night. I was determined to go to bed "early" for my impending bus ride. Phil suggested I play the New York Times Crossword Puzzle game on his DS to put me in a sleeping mood. I've been playing it for the past few nights. I am apparently terrible at crossword puzzles. I keep getting a D- on the Monday puzzles, and they're the easiest ones. I got so angry last night with my D- score because I thought I had done so well, I only used two hints, but it took me a long time to complete, so still a D-. GRRRRR!

Bus + iPod = best ever

QotD:

How many TVs do you have in your house? How many DVD players?

We have 3 TVs and I think 4 or 5 DVD players. We don't even watch movies anymore! We have our first ever DVD player up in our bedroom, but it's not even hooked up to our bedroom TV. We have the DVD player that records, we have the DVD player that plays all the wacky formats and lets us watch British DVDs (I don't know what I'm talking about, that's Phil's domain - and Christmas present), and Phil has a tiny DVD player hooked up to a tiny TV.

Have a good day everyone!

It is a beautiful morning here. A little brisk, but very sunny. If it manages to stay this way until I get home, I'm mowing the lawn. We got the riding mower going again, so I can put on my bucket hat and get a can of Genessee Cream Ale and hurtle around the yard. Yeehaw!

QOTD: We have 1 TV that we watch, and there's a PS2 hooked up to it for DVD purposes. There's also a VCR; we've got a lot of children's movies on tape. We don't have cable or satellite or anything like that.
There's another small TV in my music room that has a built-in VCR, but we never use it.
My computer plays DVDs, of course, and that's where I usually watch movies. This happens after the family has gone to bed, because I've been on a zombie kick for a while now. Dawn Of The Dead (1978) is one of my favorite movies of all time.

Oh, and I have a portable DVD player on loan, but just for this weekend. I'm playing two nights up at The Balsams, which is a fantastic place, but there's no TV in the rooms, and not much going on in the surrounding towns. So I'm packing some movies.

I am baffled at this love for Genessee - where I'm from that's a cheapo local beer. My grandpa liked it, though :) Uh, we have 3 TVs but only one has cable attached to it. Each of them has a DVD player. I should get one of those that plays British DVDs so I can see "The Tripods" again. I used to love that show and it hasn't been released in American format. Stupid regionalisms. Oh I do have an old black and white TV in the basement but it's not even plugged in.

Up early today, getting a little more cleaning of the apartment done before slogging off to work.

Genessee is cheapo, yeah. Nostalgia maybe bill? Just try and find it anywhere other than the east coast. Ain't happening. Downside of being a yankee expatriate I guess.

1 tv, no cable. 1 dvd player. (2 computers that are used regularly and an XBox which all serve as dvd players when the devil drives.) The totals will change in a month when she moves in, which may also help to explain why I'm cleaning the apartment at 7:00 in the morning...

HeuristicsInc: I must confess, it baffles me too. I think the best way to explain it is, I am amused by the fact that I can even stomach a beer so inexpensive, so I am willing to buy a six-pack now and then. But you can only find it in quantities of 30 up here. So I drop twelve bucks, and it pretty much takes over for a couple weeks. (I'm only good for about three cans in a night, and I don't get into 'em every night.)

More than this, it's an aesthetically pleasing lawn-mowin' beer. Just look at that can!

Hey, they changed their can design! Looks like someone's nephew bought a computer with Publisher on it and went nuts with the Word art feature, and uncle said proudly "My boy's a designer. Print it. Ayup." Damned nostalgia, shot to hell.

Cheers jim!

Ahhhhh, Word Art! That cracked me up.

I have one TV. My B/F discovered I had "free" cable one day by hooking the TV up to the cable pipe. I usually watch DVDs off of my computer, which is hooked up to the TV. Here's what I like watching on the TV:

1. Any good British comedy I can get my hands on
2. Jon Stewart/Steven Colbert
3. Horrible shows of the "Judge Judy" genre. I have no idea why I love watching idiots yell about rent disputes.
4. Futurama. I am soooooo excited that there are going to be NEW Futuramas soon!
5. The new Dr. Who.

Gotta run -- gotta shit ton of work to plow through! Look forward to the dance hits!

TVs: as in displays with an integrated tuner, 1, as in displays which can take an arbitrary video signal for the purpose of watching media, 2 (including the first), as the monitor on my desktop computer can also take video inputs, and in fact I used it as my TV for about a year when I lived in NYC. Also my desktop computer has a TV tuner on it, and it serves as my DVR.

DVD players: two actual dedicated units (I recently upgraded to an upconverting one and I haven't gotten rid of the old one), three computers capable of playing DVDs, and one DVD-capable video game console. I also have an Apple TV, mostly for playing the shows I record on my desktop computer and video podcasts, but I also occasionally use it to play movies (mostly vintage crap I download from archive.org).

Someday I will get a better monitor for my desktop computer and when that happens I'll probably put my current monitor in my bedroom and hook the spare DVD player up to it.

A sign of how technology improves and gets cheaper: my 23" computer monitor cost $1600ish in 2004, and has merely okay video quality (6bpc, 800:1 contrast), and 1920x1200 resolution (and supports a 1080i analog signal), and sort of works as a TV if you hook up an external tuner of some sort. My 40" LCD HDTV cost $1600ish in 2007 and has amazing video quality (8bpc, 10000:1 dynamic contrast or 2000:1ish static) and 1920x1080 resolution (and supports a 1080p digital signal), has the best built-in digital tuner I've ever seen, and also works as an amazing PC monitor.

QotD: three TVs, one of which is a small portable one with VCR. One DVD player / VCR (and a second one that just died), plus at least two computers that will play DVDs. Cable with a bunch of HBO/Showtime sorts of channels that we probably don't get our money's worth from, other than the Sopranos. And Publisher with wordart.

We think we've finally settled on dates for a vacation (driving trip to Colorado) so I'm expecting a day of packing lists and the like. Also we just did "the filing," so I have a six-inch stack of papers to be shredded. I got seven G&G demo things done of songs in our worship songbook yesterday, try to knock out a few more today. Some bills to write, and then whatever else can be squeezed in. A couple errands out, but mostly a day at home trying to take care of homestuff and momstuff.

HEATHER! What kind of crappy question of the day is that?1!!1!

The answers can't possibly be remotely interesting! (Keep up the good work hon, it's always nice to come in here and have somthing to say/answer no matter what it is)

1 TV (12 years old!)
2 DVD players (one not hooked up)
3 VCRs (one not hooked up)
3 TV cards (two not hooked up)
1 DVD ROM

My favorite part of this game though is how many CD players I have if you count it all up.

DVD player doubles as a CD player = 1
6 CD Changer = 1
portable 'walk man style' = 1
DVD ROM doubles as a CD player =1
2 CD ROM / Burner = 2
TOTAL= 6 devices in which to play CDs on with the ability to listen to 4 of them simultaniously.

Today is at least Humpday and I got someone to work for me on Saturday! so after my over night Friday night (after working 9-5 earlier on same Friday) I have the weekend off... so, woot. Parties?

2 record players
5 tape players
1 mp3 player (with no ability to change the mp3 playlist)

Watch it man.

You wanna make the question, feel free.

Glad you're here, but if you don't like the question, don't answer it.

Please don't call me "hon", it’s kind of demeaning and condescending

I'm sure I'm taking your comment too seriously, but I just got my fucking period, have bad cramps, and I don't need to be criticized!

was my knee jerk reaction to your post... it's what I was gonna post right away...but I've taken some Pamprin and hopefully that kicks in soon.

I don't want to argue. I'll try to come up with a more interesting question next time. Thanks for the feedback.

We have three of those 12" types scattered throughout the house, basic cable. Still in use is an old wooden console jobby, probably an early 90's model. The picture is decent but getting a little tired, but I like how you can put stuff on top of it.

Me stubbornly trying to make a dying computer fan run almost made me miss submitting my Nur Ein entry. Regardless of how better off we might be if I had missed, I sure would have been steamed at myself for not getting it in on time.

I wasn't a big fan of the cream ale, but I liked the old bottle and had a memorable one on tap somewhere once.

na na nah... I was totally bein' silly... Gosh... I'm sorry...I really didn't think it would upset anyone even for a second!

I'm seriously glad that you even have a question posted at all each day. I apologize genuinely if it gave the wrong impression for even half a second.

Besides, without this question, I wouldn't know which songfighter's house/apartment to rob!

2. Just a phrase that I say in real life like 'sis', 'bro', 'baby' etc...

All good! I'm blaming my angry reaction on "that time of the month". I rarely get to use that excuse!

Coming up with a question every morning is hard, especially when I'm so damn tired... any suggestions are always welcome.

Perhaps tomorrows question could be, "What is your favourite euphamism for "time of the month"?"

Overheard in my office yesterday, a young gentleman on the phone to his girlfriend
..."G'day luv, want me to come over tonight? Or are you still up on blocks?...(pause)...you know, is the Red Baron still flying about?...Ahh fuck it then...I'll see you next week"

 Some blokes are all class.

I like your questions Heather

Well, I got my round 4 song done
I like it, but it pales in comparison to the other entries
I'm happy I made it this far with some of the best
Steve Durand did the horn section SO good
I wish I could have given him a winning song to back him up
But, it's my style of performing, so I stayed true to myself
I tried so hard to cover for no guitar that it's got so much more than I'd normally do.
It was fun trying new things
I had a blast doing it
