Hello new month.
Have I posted enough here to start this thread? I'm up... the new day has started... I figured I might as well?
Anyway.
QotD:
If you were being exiled to a desert island forever and you could take 3 albums with you, what would they be?
(if that QotD has been done... sorry! i looked! at least a little bit!)
my three:
1. Mr. Bungle - California
2. The Beatles - Revolver
3. Secret Chiefs 3 - Book of Horizons

I can't believe we haven't done Desert Island Discs yet on the Daily Roll Call. But I don't think we have.
1. Made Out Of Babies "Coward"
2. Zinkline "Bending the Worlds"
3. Rasputina "How We Quit The Forest"

QOTD:
Pixies - Surfer Rosa
Edie Brickell & The New Bohemians - Shooting Rubber Bands At The Stars
Muddy Waters - The Anthology
Rum - A life time supply
Beautiful Sunday morn
This QOTD got me in the mood to pop in some of my favorite CDs
I forgot how much I love Edie Brickell's songs that never made it to a cd
I love "Long Line" that she did with Harper Simon (Paul's son) from "Menlo Park" and Rene Lopez "The Tender Trio" on drums
Plus my bootleg Pixie stuff that I love
Muddy has me jam'n on my harp right now too.
I'd definitely need a guitar and my monicas if I was exiled to a desert island

QOTD:
Robbie Williams - Swing When You're Winning
Queen - Night at the Opera(or possibly one of the greatest hits, though that's a bit of a cop out)
And, uh, oh, I don't know. Indie/tweepop mix cd of doom
There are very few albums that I can listen straight through. It's usually a few songs from each album.
Today the family and I have been camping out in the living room watching the Concert for Diana on MTV HD. Super nice. They have Kate Thornton and some American guy(and Dave Berry doing interviews), so it's nice that they don't have some American bimbo giggling over everything. Way to go, VH1! And of course the ALW medley with all the Josephs was spectacular. Lee Meade for me, Donny Osmond for mum, and Jason Donovan for, uh, the cat?
Mmm, Britain. (Also, they did super gratuitous shots of the girl playing the Ovation mandolin in Rod Stewart's band, so stueym got his "Oh, look an Ovation! Look! Look!" in for the day.)

Hmm... let's try these:
1. Sumosonic - This is Sumo
2. Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
3. Delerium - Karma
That third one is less "sure thing" then the first two.

Hmm, desert island disks, just three of 'em, huh?
Hard Day's Night soundtrack - the Beatles
Night Ride Home - Joni Mitchell
Graffiti Bridge - Prince
I might start wishing at some point that I'd brought along some Grateful Dead at some point, but the CDs above are things I could listen to over and over and over.
If we were also allowed three desert island DVDs, Graffiti Bridge would be one of those, so I cold substitute a different CD. Possibly one I have that is a bunch of Debussy music played on harp and oboe... very, very relaxing...
Some of y'all may recall that I had to go for jury duty back in May and came pretty close to being selected for a murder trial that was expected to last until the middle of July.
Here is an update... the guy was convicted just this past Friday, and they're now going into the sentencing part of the hearing, which was expected to last at least another four weeks, so it will be the end of July or beyond before it's over... I am mighty glad our group got dismissed...

My bike got stolen out of the condo's shared garage. Frankly I'm surprised it took this long, but I'm also pretty annoyed at the continuing indifference regarding security here. It's also really aggravating that my bike was the only one which got stolen when I had the shittiest bike and also the thickest cable lock; other people have much nicer bikes locked up with cables which I could probably cut through with my pocket knife.
If I were stranded on a desert island and had the ability to play music from CD, presumably I'd also have a way of powering my iPod which takes a lot less space than even one CD. So I would have my iPod with me instead. Hopefully something good would be loaded on it at the time. I have way too much to consider to come up with a list of 20 essentials much less 3.

Nice choice. So you gotz the funk in you too huh?Graffiti Bridge - Prince
Damn, I hope a few of you get exiled with me on accident.
Queen - Night at the Opera
Miles Davis - Kind Of Blue
Made Out Of Babies "Coward"
Midnight Vultures - Beck
Wouldn't it suck if we pull out our albums and realize no one brought anything to play them on.

Sorry to hear about your bike, Fluffy. Find the culprits and poke them in the eye. Then repeat on the lackadaisical security.

This is the second time I've been screwed over by the shitty security, too. First time was when my car got broken into and the thieves rooted around in every nook and cranny for what, I don't know, but to add insult to injury they didn't even take anything for all the trouble they put me through (including some shit I had in my car that thieves would have probably wanted but I didn't, like some old speakers and such).
Other cars in the garage were rifled around in but that's because everyone else was dumb enough to leave their cars unlocked. My car, which was locked, also got its window broken, which cost me $250 to replace. So once again, having better security than everyone else led to me also being hurt more than everyone else.
I'm really surprised this shit doesn't happen more often though. The garage is very insecure; it's really easy to just jump over the wall (it's really a semi-exposed multi-car car port behind a wall with a remote-control door) and due to various building code issues it can't just get a proper roof put over it and so on.
It also doesn't help that I seem to be the only one who ever keeps an eye out for anyone else; when the mass breakin occurred I checked everyone else's cars and sent a message to the HOA mailing list, and other people were all like "no I don't think my car got broken into or anything" and when I actually showed them to their cars and also explained how their doors were open and so on (I closed them so people wouldn't have dead batteries on top of everything else), then they realized something was amiss.
And every time something like this happens there's a lot of rattle and hum about beefing up the security lights and adding cameras and so on and then a month later everyone stops giving a shit, and I gave up a long time ago trying to get people to consider ways of making it so we could, oh, properly lock our bikes (not that it'd make much difference but it'd at least be a deterrent).
Stuff like this makes me glad I'm probably moving away in a month. From now on I'm only going to live in places where I have my own garage or other form of secure ground-level storage.

An amazing day in Philadelphia! We went to Liberty Hall, The Liberty Bell, Betsy Ross hosted a sword fight, my kids got drafted into the Continental Army, saw Washington's personal copy of the Constitution, lots of Pearl portraits, had awesome sushi, too little coffee, and great ice cream at Franklin Fountain.
QotD (yeah, silly question, but just answer it!):
Stravinsky's Right Of Spring - Boulez and the Chicago
Frank Zappa - Apostrophe (')
Beatles - Revolver
That would keep me pretty happy. I'd certainly miss Debussy, Yes, Ella Fitzgerald and crap like Earthbound. But I'd have like, what, two weeks TOPS to live on this desert island, so I think I'd effectively cycle through philosophical, crazy and reflective emotions until the batteries died.

yes! another revolver lover! My favorite Beatles album for sure.
The albums I chose may not be my FAVORITE albums, but they're the ones I would likely never get tired of.
Dark Side of the Moon was a close 4th.

Aw jeez, this question is too hard.
Let's see--
1. Pink Moon -- Nick Drake
2. Blue -- Joni Mitchell
3. Something else. Probably something more rockin'. Pixies perhaps, or Talking Heads... or Jane's...Maybe "Dead Air" by Heatmiser. Maybe "Perfect from Now On." (BTS)
Or I'd go for the folky hat trick and put Nina Nastasia's "Blackened Air" or Kristin Hirsch's "Strange Angels." The third one is hard to pick.
I would also bring chapstick and sunscreen, and a big floppy hat.

Actually I'm a new listener. I got a 3 song demo CD of a band called Battle Of Mice from a friend because he knows my love for post metal bands. One of the songs is called "sleep and dream". The first thing that grabbed me were the drums and guitars. Then I found out that the singers name is Julia Christmas and that she also sings for another band, which of course is Made Out Of Babies. Naturally, being a post metal fan, I loved them too. I've only been listening to them since the end of last year because that's when I found out about Battle of Mice. I haven't bought a CD yet, but I've downloaded some stuff.Niveous wrote:Sorry to hear about your bike, Fluffy. Find the culprits and poke them in the eye. Then repeat on the lackadaisical security.
